Cannot believe the current rating on this movie. Either I've missed the entire point or everyone else is wrong.
I could not take my eyes off it from the moment it started right up until the predictable and yet utterly bizarre 'ending'.
Yes, this is NOT an 'Joker' origins, in that it won't tell you how the Joker came to be. It is however, a story about the forgotten in our society, those trodden upon people who nobody spares a thought for. A bit of a cliche at times for sure (I mean, there just had to be child abuse in there), but this does not detract from the story development. What it does do however, in bucket loafs, is give Phienix the opportunity to show us once more that he is one of the finest actors of our generation. You just cannot take your eyes off him when he's on screen, and absolutely, 100% utterly believe every word that comes out of his mouth, even though you are left unsure about everything that comes out of his mouth. Think about it, that is almost impossible to pull off.
Now to Ms Gaga. Yet more confirmation if any were needed, that she too is one of the most talented, all round performers there is at the moment, and one of the very few around I would quite happily hand my cash over to see week in week out.
Is it a musical, drama, superhero, action, comedy or thriller? Well, yes it is, and at times I'd even say you could stretch it and say documentary. Sounds like your worst nightmare right? Wrong, go see it.
The movie starts off pretty much immediately after the events of the 1st one, and takes us through the court case, revealing lots of background regarding Joker along the way. It reveals that, as with many people, as his abuse continued, Joker developed his own coping mechanism to help him deal with it, ie humour causing him to laugh and joke at the most inappropriate times. Let's just say that this is "NOT GOOD".
Please go see it. I know if your a Batman franchise fan it won't be what you expect, but you will appreciate the acting, I guarantee it.

This has it all, action, tension, espionage but above all else humour, and it's that humour that sets it apart from the rest.
It's done in such a way that your initial thought is that it's a tongue in cheek parody, but it isn't. The stuff that's going on is deadly serious.
All the characters are fabulous, but in Oldmans Jackson Lamb you have someone who is destined to ho down in TV folklore in the same ilk as Walter White, Del Boy and Gene Hunt. Its a stupendous performance of someone who is undoubtedly and unapologetically the biggest slob in the world, and yet is utterly astute, clever and deadly, and God do I love him. He holds it all together, directing his band of reject spies through complex and dangerous situations with total disdain (but we know underneath he really cares about winning).
I've tried reading the books on which this is based, but just couldn't get into them for some reason, but it doesn't matter. Fans if the books seem to also be fans of the show.
If you want something that's a bit different from the norm these days, with a lesson in character development from a true master of his craft, then give this a go, it won't disappoint.
