Shogun: Crimson Sky (2024)
Triggered by mistakes
I'm mean, I know, but just can't stand the illogical moments that I see on the screen. That's why I felt so stupid during the first episode where pilot's character says one thing then immediately another, where his hands are tied in the front and the next moment - in the back, where all the dialogues are as senseless as a drunk speech and so on. I continued watching because of filming, acting and decorations which show us a very high level of proficiency. It had changed for the best and I really enjoyed the series; the views and acting which I find wonderful. Until the Crimson Sky has come.
While trying to leave Osaka, women are getting the palanquins but the next moment behind Mariko they are standing outside so that the palanquins are not even seen.
And yes, the last moment, - excuse me, I understand the romance and all, - but Mariko was standing just near the door the second it exploded. I'm not an expert, but finding her a minute later safe and sound and in the same body condition only with a tiny blood trickle on her face was at least creepy.
I'm being so picky especially because these series are good, so with that level of filming and with such a budget they could have checked the final cut.
Rain Dogs (2023)
Every dog has its day ?
I didn't expect much from this series and watched the first two episodes inattentively and without much interest. However, starting with the third episode, I was already much more concerned about the plot. Now I think this series is brilliant in its own way.
First of all, there are few movies where the theme of codependency and toxic relationships is shown realistically: there is neither an ideal and helpless victim, nor a ruthless abuser. There are only people who try, love and try again. And then, what dialogues! My special thanks to the scenarists.
Of course, I would like to see something more holistic in the plot and more aesthetic in terms of framing and directing, but since the author's vision is like that, I accept this product as it is.
And for sure I can't wait to see main characters' new ups and downs.
Chernobyl: Open Wide, O Earth (2019)
Psychological & historical mismatch
I'm grateful for this episode as well as for the whole series, but I can't help thinking about the discrepancies.
Keeping in mind (at least) some examples of soviet cinema, it's hard to believe that the miners talked to their superiors like that. In the series, they act as a group of proud American workers who know their rights, but this does not coincide with the atmosphere of the Soviet Union. It's clear that this aspect is very difficult to feel and show, but it caused rejection in me, so I decided to write about it.
A Soviet person is brought up to work for society, the authorities and the state, this is an ideology equal to religion. The miners could have been rude or indignant or scared, but I think it was hardly real to be that rude with the minister.
The miners were not only from Tula, but also from other cities. Even before them, the work was started by metro builders from Kiev.
While the miners were working, scientists and the military were inside the block: it was necessary to measure the temperature and do other tasks.
I didn't find any mention of it here, but some specialists say that the miners' work was unfortunately almost useless. The cooler was never installed as unnecessary. However, the dug tunnels were filled with concrete.
And of course, as it's noted in the facts here, the image of the minister doesn't correspond to historical reality.
