This movie is upbeat, sentimental and educational with a dynamite storyline. The letter writing matchmaking service complete with a courier is so romantic and adorable. I absolutely loved all of the deli foods and the close ups of the food as scene transitions.
Hanukkah on Rye Summary Molly and Jacob are matched together in a Brooklynn matchmaker service that connects the match with old-school letter writing and a courier that secretly delivers them in envelopes. The two fall into love through writing letters under the pen names Betha and David. Unbeknownst to them, Molly and Jacob's families have competing Jewish delis. In real life, Molly and Jacob bond over Hanukkah week celebrations and traditional Jewish foods.
Molly seeks to bring her deli into modern times, while Jacob seeks to bring his deli back to authentic traditions. The two learn from one another and grow.
MeetCute Jacob is new to the old-school New York apartment building that he is renting while he opens up the new location of his family deli, Zimmer's Deli. He cannot open up the mailbox and Molly, as a life-long tenant, shows him how to open up the mailbox with the key.
Molly tells Jacob that her family has lived here since they came from Ellis Island and gives him her number so that he can call on her as a good neighbor.
Jacob says that he is flattered and thinks Molly is hitting on him. She tells him her type is someone who can "open up a mailbox."
Later, Mizansky's Matchmaking Service matches them and the two write letters to each other without exchanging names or meeting.
Setting New York City The apartment building where they live and the delis are all on a Jewish neighborhood block. Old-school New York apartment building where both Molly and Jacob live. There are menorahs in almost every scene.
Gilbert's Deli is also old-school with big open windows in a corner New York City Street lot.

My favorite movie of the 2022 season! This is the most inventive, interest Christmas plot I believe I have ever seen. I love the research and information on Clement Clark Moore and Henry Livingston Jr. And the etymology of the famous poem about St. Nick. The inner workings of the production of a play seemed real life, with producer's opinions, improvisation, missing in action actors, actors struggling with how to act, and the play's longevity. Torrey DeVitto and Zane Holtz are fantastic actors. Their chemistry is beyond explosive!
'Twas the Night Before Christmas Summary Madison is directing a play that she co-wrote debating the authorship of the famous poem, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. The play, called "The Trial Before Christmas," debates the true authorship of the famous Christmas poem with Connor & Lena playing opposing representation counsels of Clemet C. Moore & Henry Livingston Jr. The play will premiere on Christmas Eve in the very town that the poem was anonymous published back in 1823.
Madison and Connor set off to research even more about the authorship and etymology of the poem's authorship to add layers to the production and encounter the ghosts of Henry Livingston Jr. And Clement Clark Moore, teach them about pursuing their own passions and one another.
"I never wanted a name put to it at all. My poem is a celebration of Christmas magic. I wanted my children, all children, to experience that Christmas magic as if it might come from Saint Nicholas himself." -Major Henry Livingston Jr.
MeetCute Madison and Connor are actors who co-starred and kissed in a movie, Christmastime Cupid.
Connor finds Madison on the Victorian streets dressed as a Victorian man with an accent and Madison is very happy to see him! They are good friends as well as fellow actors.

Kwanzaa in a Hallmark Christmas movie is enlightening and sentimental. The relationships between Ella, her Mom and Grandma is true-to-life and nice to see their relationship and selves blossom with honest conversation and the sentimentality that the Christmas season brings. This movie seems a good fit for Hallmark Movies and Mysteries with a very somber and serious tone, as the death of Ella's Grandpa has shattered the family's relationships and Christmas traditions. I love each and every character, but none of them are peppy, they are hurt and confused and navigating life as they know it.
Holiday Heritage Summary Ella returns home for Christmas to find her Mother and Grandma in a strained relationship as they work together at the family bakery, both grieving in different ways after the passing of Ella's beloved Grandpa who united the family through Kwanzaa traditions and principles. Ella's past boyfriend, Griffin is now the town Mayor, and has taken over many of Grandpa Riley's traditions. Ella needs Griffin's help and her Grandpa's direction to reunite her Mom and Grandma. Through making Kwanza cookies and celebrating both Christmas and Kwanza, all three generations of women blossom finding each other and themselves.
"The best interest of our family should be at the heart of our decisions."
-Ella's Grandpa Riley.
