Leave the World Behind (2023)
I've never watched Friends. There.
If there's ONE thing annoying in movies, it's kids that make these unnatural decisions to just run away and put everyone at risk. I mean, a five year old would, but this dark kid is like nine year old? Come on. Then there's this HUGE need for her to watch the final Friends episode, again and again. The world is on fire and there's no way to watch, but let's still whine about it.
I know that a lot of people love that show but some people don't.
I feel like this movie has a lot more potential than we got. For a Netflix movie it's quite good. I mean, most of them we're looking up here before watching usually don't end up much higher than a 5.5 and I honestly don't think it's all bad, but the ending of this movie made me think of another movie 'How it ends' where they just cut the end off.
You will get to see bits of what's going on and a shot of the city near the end (where you can turn off the movie by the way), but that's all.
I expect there to be a part two.
Awake (2021)
Come on Netflix..
I usually don't expect much from Netflix original movies, and this is another movie that was apparently written on two pieces of paper. It lacks details, a good and solid story, good acting and actors and a large cast.. Mediocre is the right word for this movie.
The idea for the story was good, but maybe it would've been better to make it into a series instead of squishing it into a movie.
We skipped trough the last part of the movie to find out the cure and even that was disappointing. I mean, does this 'cure' solve everything? What exactly caused all this? I have so many questions. Reminds me of a movie once where something happened in a part of the U. S. but the movie never told what happened. Oh yes, 'How it Ends'. Also a Netflix production.
F*ck de liefde 2 (2022)
We stopped watching
Half way through the movie we realized that this isn't a movie. It's just a bunch of scenes that play after each other. The story is predictable and feels like I've seen this many times before. It doesn't help that part of the scenes were shot on this overrated Ibiza, again. The acting of nearly all cast members is terrible. For instance, why is the fortune teller speaking in English with a Dutch accent talking to a Dutch woman?
When we wondered how much longer the movie would last, we were only half way, so we turned it off. Sorry to say, but this was a waste of time.
De Familie Claus 2 (2021)
Why dub Flemish for Dutch?
The movie was just okay but after the movie we found out that there was an option in Netflix to choose 'Flemish (Original)' as the audio track. Skipping trough the movie again I found just two voices that changed to Flemish. I really wish that I found this out earlier as it was really disturbing to hear the voice of a 19-year old as the kid who helps grandpa.
Twinkle All the Way (2019)
Predictable with snowfakes.
It's quite a predictable movie but okay to watch. However, when the first snow was falling, it was quite obvious that this was edited in, which was quite annoying troughout the rest of the movie.
Holidate (2020)
Can't really mess up a holiday movie
This has been screaming in my Netflix recommendations for months so now that December has started, it was time to watch it.
It's just a holiday movie. Not one to remember, but like the title says: You can't really mess up those.
Happy holidays everyone!
Verliefd op Cuba (2019)
Same story, terrible editing
This is just another Dutch movie with a bad attempt to bring some comedy in. And no matter what happens, you know it all ends well in the end. Now, usually those movies are just okay to watch on a Saturday or Sunday morning, but what annoyed me was the mediocre acting (as said before, the fighting scene was terrible) and mostly the audio and video. The audio sounds like it was dubbed or recorded later. It's very raw and always at the same level. Louder than anything else in the shot. The video looks like it was recorded with a GoPro. In a lot of shots the image is distorted / fisheyed; When people walk from the center to the edge and back, they are misforming. The best example is the bathroom scene in Cuba. I can't imagine that noone saw this while shooting or editing the film.
Bad Boys for Life (2020)
10/10 for a poorly produced B-action movie from the early 00's??
Okay first of all, IMDB has to act up against all those fake 10/10 ratings. It's like the production asked everyone's family to leave a positive review.
It's probably a marketing departement at Sony positively influencing the ratings, but I don't buy it.
Now the movie. I like that they got the main cast together. It really brings back memories. Will Smith doesn't seem to age ever and Martin Lawrence can almost go for another Big Momma film. Where has he been ever since? I figure it took as much effort to get Martin Lawrence to play in this movie, as it did with his character to go on the hunt with Mike.
The first half of the movie is kinda boring, so we left the other half for the next day. Marcus got old and boring, Mike is still Mike and Vanessa Hudgens is pulling fashion show because there have to be more women in movies. And for the record: I'm not against women in movies, but I'm afraid this forced craziness will eventually turn James Bond into a Jane.
The second half brings more action, with a high dose of comedy of course.
The whole AMMO team plus the bad guy and his mother, in combination with the storyline, turned this movie into a poorly produced B-action movie from the early 00's. And thus my overall verdict is that this was just okay to watch, but they could've done it so much better...
I See You (2019)
Pretty good
For a brief moment I thought this would be a bad movie, but it turned out to be a pretty good movie with a nice plot twist and an original story.
Toy Boy (2019)
Lengthy
We liked the first few episodes. We watched about five of them. After that we just watched the recaps in the beginning of each episode. Thirteen episodes that are more than an hour long.. It's just too much and too lengthy. The story itself is pretty good though
The Last Thing He Wanted (2020)
A complicated story doesn't make a good movie
I thought that this would be a high rated movie because of the top actors and the complicated story, but I'm relieved to read the actual reviews here. The story is confusing and unclear. It's like they had too much story and just half of the time. What the hell is this about? Why this abrupt ending? What happens after this?
The Stranger (2020)
So so slow...
Watch the first episode and skip all but the last two episodes. I think this season could've been made in half the time.
6 Underground (2019)
It's a late 90's action movie in 4K HDR
I can't tell if it's a good or a bad movie, I mean, there is a lot of action and I feel like the action covers 80% of the movie. 10% goes to the storyline and the rest of it goes to mediocre jokes and a sentimental ending.
This is a movie that matches any expectation. The little group of 'good' guys will survive against a way larger group of bad guys. You know which two of the 'bad' guys will turn up out of nowhere near the end of a fight and I was most surprised they didn't fight on top of the cranes. But maybe it's because Bond did that already. And how was the group of bad guys, that nearly crawled on the crane able to catch up with Bil eh number four?
Altogether a good movie to watch on the couch but we're glad we didn't waste our money on movie tickets.
Singel 39 (2019)
'Thirteen in a dozen'
As we would call it: A 'thirteen in a dozen' (dime a dozen) movie. The wonderful world of Amsterdam; Perfect life, perfect house, a mix of orientations and cultures, the Sun is shining; It's not Amsterdam and it most certainly doesn't represent the Nethetlands. But in movies like this: Life. Is. perfect. Period.
In the middle part ot the movie that perfect life mostly falls apart: The boyfriend isn't the one, the other guy has different plans, a close relative dies.. Drama. That's life.
And the last part of the movie is all perfect again. Like the viewer would expect.
That is: Like we would expect it. We stopped watching.
Somewhere Between (2017)
Skipped half the episodes
We skipped a bunch of episodes to see the last one, and even that one lasted a bit too long. The intro to that episode tells enough about what happened before. And of course the end is very predictable, including the relationship between Laura and Nico.. Kids can become annoying easily in films and series, and so is Serena. We found the acting levels of most of the cast very mediocre, lead by Laura, Logan and his mother.
Skjelvet (2018)
If there's something I hate in movies...
..it's kids causing a lot of trouble because they won't listen.
Other than that.. I would've rated this movie an 8 if it weren't for the 2nd part of the movie. The end of the movie takes forever and it seems they had to sacrifice at least one of the cast to make it not that perfect story where everyone survives. I'm not the writer of the movie. I'm not a writer in any way, but I think I could do better.
By reading the comments, I really need to see The Wave I guess..
Brightburn (2019)
Good story but meh execution
The movie is just okay to watch, but isn't horrific at all. Most of the 'scary' moments are pretty predictable, while a lot of the actions by the characters aren't. I mean, who wouldn't call their sister because your cousin showed up at the door late in the evening all threatening. The only person that made the right call was the officer lady that came to the house. Futhermore I found Elizabeth Banks's clothing terrible. The black leather jacket was an ugly choice, an so did the ripped jacket, jeans and overalls. Yay overalls, but I absolutely can't take people serious that buy or wear that.
Overall (hah) just another 'okay' movie.
Secret Obsession (2019)
This was Scary Movie 6, right?
A little while after the movie started I realized the detective was president Palmer in 24. Good for him! I guess that is what I'll remember of this movie.
The trailer spoils most of this movie and the rest is like whatever you expect to happen: The bad guy getting what he wants, without any questions, a girl that can't walk very well and falls from the stairs, she makes unnecessary sounds when she's on the run, a police detective bringing a visit to the house on his own, while it's clear many things are wrong..
For one moment we believed the other guy was the bad guy, because of the shot the director chose and the scary sound, which definitely means that this must be the bad guy and whe had it all wrong. But then they ruined that thought before he got killed. No one knows who he was. This movie left us with a lot of questions, which can be found in one of the other reviews. But what's with the bedroom door? It sure doesn't open when you don't pull down the door handle, but I would've tried to pull the black pin, which probably opens both doors. "He's a smart guy with a bad temper", but it takes him long enough to open that same door that's quicker unlocked with a hairpin than the keys.
We watched this movie till the end so we could read the reviews here. What a treat.
He's Out There (2018)
Another horror movie
This is just another one of those horror movies where you can see what's coming; the phone line's dead, the lights go out and of course, the car doesn't work. A bunch of stupid mistakes and terribly annoying kids create the drama and frustration..
