Heavy personal content laid out raw, but add great production, tremendous acting, and well directed scenes that just meld and spellbind you seamlessly into the world of the central characters. Enter a child star reckoning with the halfway abusive relationship he has with his father, (played by Labouef). Yet, a father, who will bear some responsibility still for the success (and destructive behaviors) of the star we see in cuts to future scenes of the grown boy trying to dismantle his childhood and sort out the positives. I would argue to say we all try to do the same, and perhaps could fancy this film a compass to peg just what kind of childhood we had exactly - This film revealed a lot to me about people in all seriousness, and I was able to work some of the lessons and the cathartic breakthroughs of the story into my own issues in life. I may be biased as an old fan of LaBeouf (from his days on Disney Channel). I was happy to see him produce such a skillful expression of his own troubles developing into an adult film star in Hollywood. There's a chance I was primed to be more interested in the story than others may find themselves because I had often wondered what caused his outbursts back then. But that doesn't change the fact of the quality of the acting, writing, raw storyline, and camera work, is top notch resulting in a great beginning middle and end. One of my favorite films and worth a watch.
Let me first say that I have not enjoyed many Sci-fi series releases in the past several years, but this show has reinvigorated my love for the genre. Scientifically plausible, stunning visual effects and fantastic performances from each of the leads left me wanting more. The art direction is divine and the show proves humanities inner musings on space exploration, environmental activism, racism and sacrifice. All this packed into a suspenseful at times tremendously freaky stellar adventure. I would recommend to all for a glimpse into what exceptional production and concept design looks like..
The superb acting, sound mixing, writing, and cinematography in this film create an incredibly compelling story that will twist your emotions and definitely hit the spot for a Halloween season movie night or for horror genre fans any day of the week. Somewhat more cerebral that your average slasher, Kristoffer McMillan drivers a captivating performance navigating his mental torment after a personal tragedy, which develops into some pretty scary stuff- I'm not a huge gore fan and there are some fairly violent moments which while tactfully filmed and presented still may be over the top for some viewers. I think it is fundamental to the story arc, and will be welcomed by other horror genre fans who may be wishing for that 'close your eyes' moment. To me, the entire film is an expression of escaping the clutches of grief and guilt, and the production team put together a gripping film to definitely keep you on the edge of your seat and emotionally invested.
