High Country (2024)
Fantastic Series!
This series had me gripped from the very beginning. Fantastic scenery, superb acting and a plot with so many twist and turns. Yes it was dark and yes it contained violence but it was fa superior to programmes like Hightown! There was swearing yet in between the character managed to communicate in English, on a lighter set as opposed to the dark gloomy lighting and continual stream of swearing. The plot had so many twists and turns which kept you guessing till half way through the final episode. I was convinced one of the main characters was the murderer and did not see the twist until the very last moment. This series is top quality and at no point was hackneyed stereotyping. Well done! The whole team deserve a gold star!
Signora Volpe (2022)
Slow Burner
Like the setting the series moves at a slow pace due to the heat! The beauty of this series is the slow, steady pace as the plot delicately unravels. The characters are beautifully drawn and the setting is superb. The plot wraps around you like a delicate shawl carefully revealing details and fragments until the viewer has the whole plot. The characters are carefully developed at a steady, bit by bit we get to know them and love them, foibles and all! The beauty of this series is that it relies on wonderful settings, carefully drawn plots and superb characters but best of all no swearing! You feel you are part of the community in the sleepy little Italian town.
Nancy Drew (2019)
Mystery with a Twist
When I came across this series I did not know what to expect. Nancy Drew books were my favourite when I was a child and I think that is where my passion for detective fiction was born. However, I was hooked after the first episode which is strange because I am not usually interested in supernatural type things. I guess good against evil is always a hook to pull you in. The characters are superbly drawn, I want to be part of a team like that. Each character was unique yet as a whole they were great. The plots were interesting supported by back plots that threaded each episode together. Best of all no swearing!
Fire Country (2022)
Great Drama!
Some of the reviews seem to have forgotten that this is a drama series and a good one at that. Yes it's about love, failure and petty arguments but it is also about so much more. It deals with team work, respect, forgiveness, loss, survival. It looks at communities that live in challenging surroundings and isolation. The need is not just to get on with coworkers but also for communities to support each other. I live in the UK and had no concept of how big the forest could be nor the impact a forest can have on its surrounding area. That you could get lightening storms that can set fires or wind changes that can cause devastation nor the way the justice system uses prisoners out in the community. You may be familiar with the landscape and challenges whilst I live on a small island that has a temperate climate with few challenges. Yes we get heatwaves, snow, ice and drought but none to the extreme that you experience in the North American Continent. It is not a documentary, it is a drama and I am enjoying every minute of it.
Mystery 101: Deadly History (2021)
What the Heck!
This was an excellent plot, extremely complex and took a long time to final come together. At last Travis shared more of his story which eventually led to the moment we have all been waiting for between the two leads. Then comes the ending! Cruel! If this is another series that is axed and that is the ending we are left with I shall be gutted! Furthermore, it doesn't match the carefully crafted relationship build up that has been an integral part of all the previous installments.
There better be some positive penmanship coming in the future to justify the distruction of such a beautiful family group!
