Roxelana was one of the most famous Sultanes of the Ottoman Period and this movie is about her life in a reminiscing way. Cleverly done and with beautiful costumes. Also partly filmed on historical grounds like the Harem of the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As not so many details are known about her life, part of the movie is a guess. The costumes and jewels are made after the very few paintings known to be representing Roxelana. Also the other principals like the Sultan Suleyman and the grand Vizir are well portrayed by the actors. The movie should be subtitled in English. Title music is beautiful played with violin and cello. Worthwhile viewing if you want to know more about this very interesting period of ottoman rule of Suleyman the Magnificent.
Walked out half way out of movie, stand up comedians jokes were supposed to be funny, but were nothing else but vulgar, coarse and rude sexual name calling. Maybe this is funny for the prudish mid western American public, but in Europe nobody laughed at all during the showing of the movie. We,in Europe, have already long passed this age of sexual frustration, where Americans are still wrestling with it, and are able like adults to talk normally about it when it is necessary but not like this is being used in the movie where there are nothing more than four letters words spoken. Could not comment anybody to go and see this movie as it is a waste of money and time. Predict that this movie will very shortly disappear from the theaters for ever!! The onliest good performing actors were the old girlfriend and her so called Australian husband, but even they were also given bad lines. What a waste to go and see this movie.
