Damaged (2024)
Not bad to very bad,
Here we go again. Low budget, cheap sound, poor script, poor acting and totally unrealistic. Of course the Scottish Police would bring in an American to assist with their case and then his friend who is living in London---Right ?? Very unlikely !! Samuel L. Jackson is getting a bit old to play a cop who would have been long retired. The DCI would have been placed on leave at once if his wife was murdered and not allowed to be out of control and on the case. It seems that Samuel L. Has taken over the case and yet contributes nothing. The ending was the worst ever. Glad I got this at the library and din't have to rent it or pay to see it. Just the usual trash that is being turned out these days.
Halifax: Retribution (2020)
Very Annoying
I managed to get through the first episode with the overacting, annoying music, Rebecca Gibney who seemed sour and had no spark, as if she was posing in most of her scenes. Then Anthony LaPaglia who seemed to be past the retirement age for his job and a voice like a 4 pack a day smoker. Then the consistent theme in these movies today with the angry teenager who is blaming a family member. Gice me a break !!! On and on with this slow moving, boring and annoying movie. I packed it in 15 minutes into the second episode. It seemed like they were trying to copy an American movie with shots of the city and beautiful homes and cars etc. Overdone and very unrealistic and a repeat in many situations of previous movies. Very bad !
The Royal Hotel (2023)
Could have ended better.
First of all the adds for this film say two AMERICAN GIRLS, I guess to appease American Audiences but they are actually Canadian.(why is that ??) Hanna should have left the hotel much earlier and dumped her friend Liv who has turned into an irresponsible drunk. The worsening situation with the feral men that patronize the pub should have warned them that rape was not to far away. They were treated with disrespect from the moment they arrived. The ending leaves the audience wondering as if the two girls can just walk away after burning down the hotel. Slow moving movie with not much happening except the drunken disorderly antics of the locals. Could have ended much better.
The Vice (1999)
Watched It All The Way
I enjoyed this series and watched all episodes. I was pleased when Kett Stott disappeared as I was getting tired of his character, anger and poor decision making.
Someone who has stayed too long in Vice. Some of the vice officers should have been removed as they were clearly not suited to that unit-Kirsty, Stewart and the other new constable (who likes to sample the prostitutes are clearly not Vice material. Joe is not a great leader and perhaps above his ceiling as an inspector and has difficulty making good decisions. However, the show goes on. Vice is a difficult area for anyone to work in. The acting all around was very good and the situations for the most part were believable. Tim Pigott-Smith is very good in his role but I was amazed that he went from a Sergeant about to retire in two weeks to an Inspector and then a Chief Inspector without writing any of the promotion exams and not retiring.
Land of Bad (2024)
Land of Bad is Very Bad
I guess Russel Crowe didn't have to shave his beard (some reference of a skin condition in the movie to cover this)) and loose weight for this movie like most other actors would have had to.
Wearing a tourist shirt with his uniform jacket and his appearance is just not military and would not be acceptable. This is a typical American Hype show where everyone is a hero. The team talk in nothing but locker room crap and are talking when on operations approaching the target. Over use of the "F" word, as if that is the only word they know. Just unprofessional all round. Of course they never would have taken a rookie Airforce Sergeant on a patrol and the use of "fruitloop" referring to him is overdone.
The dialogue between Crowe and the Sergeant trying to share their life stories is so stupid.
The entire show is unrealistic and especially the use of drone weapons. Of course after getting out alive and near the pick-up zone they have to return where they started to get one of their men. Ho humhh! I shut this down at that point. Just a bad movie and I think it makes a joke out of the military.
This type if film is more and more typical thsese days as the writers cannot come up with anything else but this junk.
Ride (2024)
Very bad all round.
There seems to be a religious undertone to this movie.
Everyone is praying for everyone else. I wonder if this was to be shown tp a church congregation . Anyways, the acting, dialogue and storyline were so poorly done
it was really tough watching this movie. The movie was too long and a lot of things didn't make sense. They robbed the drug dealer to get money for the girl's treatment but you can see they only got his drug stash, which they would have to resell. All of a sudden they have the money for the treatment. The son hides the truck in a junkyard and throws the plates and confererate flag away near the truck. First place police would look for a missing vehicle. The sheriff is thinking of shooting her deputy but would be using her service pistol--first ballistics check law enforcement would be checking. Really stupid all round and the characters were just not believable.
Reacher (2022)
Really Bad Movie
So, here is another bodybuilder that can't act and somehow got into the movies. All he does is stand around and show off his muscles. The dialogue is simply stupid and the acting terrible. I had my finger on the off button after the first half hour and finally pressed it after 1 hour. Nothing makes any sense and there is no reality here just nonsense. This is just a terrible movie all round and I wonder how anyone could enjoy this nonsense. The main actor should just stay in the gym. The other actors were very bad as well. Poor writing, poor acting poor plot. Glad I got this movie for free at the library.
The Man Who Came Back (2008)
Far From Any HIstorical Event.
I thought the movie was not that great. The firearms were as close to any
historical events but not the story. Eric Braeden was totally miscasted in this
role and mumbled through the movie. He went to jail and then to prison for a
long term but was always clean shaven and his hair the same length. His escape
from prison was sort of ridiculous. He then keeps appearing around town with everyone
and their dog hunting him. Just doesn't project a strong character.
The end fight with the villain was totally ridiculous as he had vowed to
kill him and not show who was the best fighter. Could have been a lot better movie with better actors
and script. Glad I saw it free on TV and
didn't have to pay for it. Sad to see George Kennedy and
Sean young having to take roles like this. Billy Zane was the most believeable. Just not a great movie.
The Highest Honor (1982)
Great History
I enjoyed this movie very much. The acting was realistic and the costumes and firearms were spot on. The real story was whitewashed some as I guess not to make the Japanese appear too brutal; when in fact they were. The prisoners were tortured and not given special rashions. It was a kangaroo court that convicted them and sentenced them to death by beheading. The beheadings apparently were not done with precision and some required several blows to complete the task. Overall a very good true story with some embelishments but interesting to watch. I think the relationship with the prisoners and the Japanese captors was a bit much as they were not treated well at all. Very brave men.
HHhH (2017)
Good but could have been better based on the real facts :
The acting was quite good although I felt some of the actors were miscasted--Himmler is almost fat where as he was slim and taller in real life than the actor who looks really outcast in this role. Heydrich is so, so, portrayed but his collar rank insignia is not accurate all the time--he is shown as a Gruppenfuhrer sometimes and as an Obergruppenfuhrer other times. Heydrich did not carry a Luger as shown in the movie but carried a Walther PP. I don't think that Clarke gave the best portrayal of Heydrich, something about his looks. The chase and shootout scene with Heydrichs driver leaves you to believe he was killed where as he was not and only wounded. Heydrich did not die during Himmler's visit as shown, but later. I believe the assassins in the church were only armed with pistols, not multiple machine guns. Don't know why with a bit of research they can't get the history straight. There are other inaccuracies as well, inserting Heydrich into scenarios where he never actually was present. Anyways, not a bad movie but could have been better. If left alone to the actual facts it still would have been a good story instead of adding in ridiculous fiction.
Far Haven (2023)
So Very Bad !
Probably one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Everything smacked of a cheap production, poor script, poor soundtrack and
acting. Did not like the religious undertone, as if the movie was sponsored by a church group. They must have got a special on neckscarves as everyone seems to be wearing one. Most of the characters have crisp, clean clothes and replica Winchester Rifles that do not even look authentic.
The gunbelts and holsters appear to be new as if a leathermaker whipped up a bunch for the movie.
The "kid", Luke, looked so stupid with his Paul Newman Hat. It got to the point that we watchers could say what the characters were going to say before they said it.
Anyways, it was painful to watch and I am so glad I got it at the library for free and did not have to pay to see it. A classic example of the trash movies that are coming out today. The hero is supposed to be the strong silent type but came across as someone not very bright. Grrrrrrrr !!!!!!!
The Beekeeper (2024)
As Usual-The Usual
The movie was what you would expect with Jason Statham. He carried the show inspite of the poor supporting actors and the ridiculous action scenes and storyline. Too much mention of the
"beekeepers" (who cares). I notice that Staham never uses four letter words but most of the supporting cast did frequently, which is just not necessary. Agent Parker should have been left out of the cast as her acting was the very worst--FBI Agent in blue jeans who talks stupid and did not fit into the role at all. Her partner was just a step below her for bad acting. Anyways, the movie was kind of a rehash of other movies of this same type but certainly not a box office smash. Glad I got it free at the library and didn't have to pay to watch this type of trash, that seems to be what is coming out of Hollywood these days.
Before We Die (2021)
Decent Series
I enjoyed this series. The main actors were more like real people would be with their emotions and frustrations. I thought the plots were quite well done. The only glitch in my mind was Chief Superintendant Kane's rank insignia-- A Chief Superintendant wears the crown with a diamond or "pip" below it. Kane is wearing a much, much higher rank such as Commissioner or Chief Constable. If the wreath were taken away on his epaulettes the rank would be correct. Just odd that no-one would have researched this. Overall an enjoyable watch and good acting with a minimum of swear words and overkill.
Higher rank.
Revenge (2011)
Went on Far too Long
This was an interesting show when it first started but the series went on far too long and became ridiculous. The plot just seemed to disappear. Tired of people just showing up in other people's homes all the time and supposedly going from the Hamptons to NY City as if the two were close by. Some of the cast became very boring--Nick for example kept saying "what is going on" just about everytime he was on camera. The acting overall was not great and I am sure M. Stowe was hired to sell the series. Could have been a lot better with better writing and some decent actors. I found it very difficult to keep watching and continue.
Riviera (2017)
Just Okay
The most irritating theme song ever! I enjoyed this series to the point of a 5 star review but not beyond that rating. The story is hard to believe and the acting is a bit below really good. There seems to be too much dialogue between characters at times and the story moves at a slow pace. The plot becomes just totally unrealistic and very predictable as well as just plain stupid.
I don't know if it is just me but Iwan Rheon (Adam) mumbled his way through the series and I could barely understand half of what he was saying and his acting is a total dud. Anyways the show was just passable and could have been a lot better with better writing. I don't know why they just had to have an American (Stiles) dropped in the title role instead of sticking with European characters, which are more
realistic. What is with Stiles seemingly dirty, scruffy hair ??? Season 2 got worse with the injection of an American Uncle Jeff, who seems to be a staying as a guest forever and trying to involve himself in everyone's business. A really unneccessary character. Uncle Jeff needs a voice transplant as his voice is horrible. Totally stupid. Then there is Julia Stiles with her harsh voice, turned down mouth and unpleasant features and expressions. Always getting mad and driving, running or walking away every five minutes or so. Not a great actress at all and getting more than tired of her. Anyways, not a great series .
Mirage (2020)
Very Tiresome
This movie was obviously a travel show highlighting Abu Dhabi, which was well done. The movie started out well enough but got
progressively worse with each episode. It should not have carried on as long as it did and 3 episodes would have been enough. The main characters got very tiresome and especially Clive, who has a poor speaking voice and no spark whatsoever. There is no warmth between the too main stars and the love scenes were very bad. Clive seems to have all the high tech toys, vehicles and guns and lives on a large boat. He is supposed to be a diving instructor but he is never there. Where does all his money come from? Clair has a high profile job and she is never there. The plots and scenes become predictable and you get the feeling that you have seen them all in other movies. Sick of Clive wandering around and showing up all over the place with his shoulder bag and hoodie. Just unbeliveable. Even Clair becomes nauseous.
I just had to turn this off after the first five episodes and could not watch the last one as I was so turned off with the poor acting and dialogue.
The Bricklayer (2023)
Really Bad !
Aaron Eckhart must have needed money badly to make a movie l this bad. He whispers all through the movie . Has he lost his voice ?? The same old plot--crooked CIA Chief, former rogue agent, a mess to cleanup from the past and a novice female agent . Get the feeling that I have seen this same type of movie and same plot many times before. Eckhart is of an age where he shouldn't be that tough and be able to wipe out all the other younger tough guys. Of course here we go again with American CIA operating in another country and carrying guns . Do people believe this crap ? I couldn't finish this movie after watching the Nina, the CIA Agent scold Eckhart and talking like an immature spoiled brat. Very bad casting for her part. Just an overall very poorly done movie that isn't worth watching.
The Passage (1979)
Predictable and lack of authenticity
Although the cast was excellent, Anthony Quinn, as usually was very good, the story was quite predictable . I found that Malcolm McDowell was overacting and a bit silly. His uniform was the old black SS full dress parade uniform, complete with dagger and a sloppily worn Luger holster on the right side, which was hardly ever worn and replaced by the green/gray unifrom (the Luger was already outdated and most officer wore small pistols like the Walther PP & PPK). His armband was not correct. The writers seemed to think the SS were treated like royalty wherever they went and could give orders to other branches of the military, which was just not true. Had McDowell been portrayed as a Gestapo Officer in plain clothes his status might have been a bit different. Anyways, James Mason and his wife seemed a bit old to be parents of the two children, The clothing they were wearing would be totally unsuitable for a crossing like this and what about their footwear ? A very predictable story where you can always guess ahead what is going to happen. The part where Anthony Quinn (who is unarmed and yet has had access to many firearms on this journey) entices McDowell into shooting an avalanche is just ridiculous. I basically enjoyed the movie but it could been much better.
Triple 9 (2016)
Horrible, Stupid Movie
This had to be one of the worst police dramas I have ever seen.
None of the cast were outstanding or believeable. What a waste of Woody's talent. Casey Affleck, as usual, mumbled his way through the show and chewed gum to add to the mumbles. Of course like all these police shows they are churning out, Casey doesn't look like a cop. Act like a cop or like any of the other cops--long hair, unshaven. Perhaps if he was an undercover officer, maybe??? Guns worn out in the open, foul unprofessional language, stupid plots. It was one of those shows you keep hoping it will end. Just a "junk" movie all round.
Berlin Station (2016)
Okay but flawed.
I have found the series so far to be entertaining. What I don't like is this continuous image of the CIA having authority in other countries where they have none. In Germany they are there through their embassy and at the blessing of the German Government. This show, like so many others, like to make one think the CIA can do whatever they want in other countries. The series shows that the CIA are leading the investigation over their German counterparts--not true. Anyways, I get tired of this myth with most of the American Shows. What I really disliked and it was totally unnecessry, was Robert Kirsch with every second word out of his mouth an "f" word. A typical little man trying to act macho and tough, which was totally uncalled for. Other than that the show was okay to watch but again, tired of the first two flaws that kind of took the enjoyment out of the show. It could have been written better in these areas.
The Old Man (2022)
Downhill Fast
The first episode was good and got my attention. After that it seemed to go downhill. Too much senseless talking that take up most of the episodes. Amy B. Is not great in this series. The part where she announces that she wants half his money---give me a break ! The daughter who is so confused about who she is--the CIA would never have even hired her after a background check and would have found her real name and who her father was. The endless "meaning of life" dialogue between her and John Lithgow on the jet--grrrrr! How stupid . John Lithgow walks into a room filled with debris and records and within a minute finds the correct file he is supposedly searching for. Right !
The flashbacks to Afghanistan get confusing and boring. A Deputy Director of the FBI gets on a jet not knowing where it is taking him???? The girl would not have been allowed to come with him. Anyways, I totally lost interest in this series and will not watch the last two episodes. The series just lost its way with too much senseless dialogue, too little action, too confusing and drifted into the realm of totally unbelievable nonsense. The dogs were the best actors !
Travel Man: 48 Hours in... (2015)
Very Bad
I started watching 48 hours in Barcelona a city I know well and
enjoy. I found that Richard the host is very hard to look at and actually weird . No-one wants to hear his stupid opinions and comments and silly facial expressions. Paired with Cathy I think they thought this was a comedy gig. Anyways, I always wonder why these shows have to have the hosts acting like comedians when they are out of their league and not funny. Stick to the beautiful sites and the city itself and save the stupidity. I think the people of Barcelona would be embarrassed by their presentation. I will not be watching any more of this series. Can't believe they would waste money flying a host like this around to different countries.
Justified: City Primeval (2023)
Much Better After the Daughter Left.
The first few episodes were disappointing and with a repeat theme these days ---"here we go again"-------
-- a single law enforcement officer with a spoiled brat teenager in tow. It seems to be the trend with crime movies these days and is getting tiresome. Once the daughter, who is a terrible actor and has no screen presence and talks like a 7 year old baby. Once she moves on the show really picked up. The actors were a bit over the top to start with but became much more believeable as the show progressed. Enjoyed the series once the daughter finally left, which should have been much earlier. The villain is a bit much and hard to believe. The writers could have fine tuned this a bit more. Overall well done and worth watching.
River Wild (2023)
Not Believeable and Stupid
Nothing much good to say about this movie. Stupid conversation with the characters at the start off camp. 2 phones that don't work and the professional guide doesn't check them himself. He also allows liquor in the camp and lets everyone drink. The villain twice works the slide on the Glock which would eject a live round. The bullet would in the abdomen doesn't stop the guide from climbing back into the boat, surviving the rapids and fighting with the villain. Ho Hum !!!!!! Could have been much better but drifted into the realm of totally unbelieveable and very predictable. Not a great movie and a lacklustre cast. Glad I got it free at the library and didn't pay to see it .
Forty Eight Hours (1988)
Unload Susan Spencer
I do enjoy this show and watch it regularly. There are two things that I do not like about the series and one is the return of Susan Spencer.
I don't find her pleasant and her facial expressions and demeanor are unpleasant. Always appears like she is challenging the person she is interviewing. Her voice is not great for an announcer. The second of my dislikes is that they tend to focus far too much on the grief of the victims family and have parents and loved ones upset and crying . Some of these poor people have horrible voices and there participation should be kept to a minimum. They really over do it with this. Just stick to the story and the investigation.
