This is a motion picture that shows the times of great migration from the Eurasian steppes to the European lands, and the foundation of Bulgarian state as it is now, which is shown in truly realistic colours. The film's story involves so many tribes and nations that it could almost be an almanac of what has happened at these ages in the lands where East and West collide.
To slightly shift the angle, this story is told through the eyes of a Byzantian.
Speaking of the plot, the interesting part is the collision of Christianity (Byzantium) with the Pagan beliefs of the Steppe peoples. There is nothing sugar-coated or following a pre-defined script of hurraying certain tribes or others.
The plot is so realistic, and this is what makes a great story.
Unlike most historic Hollywood movies nowadays, there is no computer production, the crowds are real, as well as the horse stunts, which makes it a must-see.
