This is a truly superb presentation of one man's obsessive love of cine film. As he records his life through the twentieth century I couldn't take my eyes off it.
Came across this movie on TV the other day. I've recently come back from my first trip to Japan and can't wait to back.
The main interest for me was the locations - the contrast between the Tokyo of today all high-rise and hi-tech with the low-rise hum-drum of the post-war city is startling. I even managed to spot a street corner in Ginza I had been standing on a few weeks earlier.
The plot rattles along nicely and Robert Ryan is well-cool though not quite as clever as he thinks he is! Love the homo-erotic sub-text with him and his No. 1 boys. Great slapping around scenes too! Well worth looking out for.

This is one of the first films i remember seeing on TV as a child back in the 70's. It scared me to death and I have never forgotten it - I have never seen it since and am not sure I should in case its eerieness has been lost over time.
