Right Back At It, But in the Beginning
13 December 2024
It wouldn't be Dexter without the same characters we all began to miss at the end of the series, but they are back ... just younger. Even music and narrative voice over is the same from Michael C Hall. It feels like home.

With this fresh young cast, plus Harry Morgan played by Christian Slater, it will be fun to watch the series progress in a new and different environment. Atter one episode I stopped short of giving it higher than a 7, but if the writing continues to be top notch we will be in store for a fun ride. Dexter: New Blood just couldn't provide the same without the original characters of Debra Morgan and Vince Masuka. I wonder who else will come along?

And with the addition of Sarah Michelle Gellar I anticipate the show will build and add new and old aspects while these actors provide great performances. Looking forward to this series weekly in the next ten episodes!

You Think You Know, But ...
22 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the first 3 in a row after reading the critic reviews. Those reviews may have helped understand the characters better and how the shifts in scenes were relevant but not meant to be fully understandable at the time.

The fact that a new experiment on the ISS is related to quantum physics and that it changes perspective when viewed somehow makes the plot of this series, in my view, an important piece of the puzzle. However this shouldn't be viewed as a spoiler since so much of what happens to the characters can go in any direction even if it turns out to be the main reason things are not the way they should be and characters are 'hallucinating' at times. Again, all my own view of things.

The acting is quite good from those we know and have appreciated in previous roles, and it is needed to make us accept the premise of the plot. I love Sci-Fi and have actually written a sci-fi book, so tying all the subplots together in the end makes it satisfying and the critics maintain this is achieved. So I'll stay with the action and look forward to a lull that leads to that end and hope to see a great finish that makes it all worthwhile.

It's Early, But Definitely Worth the Watch
27 May 2022
It will be interesting to see how the writers fill the gaps in the Star Wars saga. Admittedly the storyline is so well laid out that the writers wrote some weak stuff to set up the first couple of episodes, but what did you expect?

After the twins are born the story skips ahead 10 years so the characters can be better developed in their youth. We know Obi-Wan gets older and optimism resurfaces as he watches over Luke just from previous movie content. Lea is indeed like her mom, strong willed at times, but intelligent and intuitive. What makes it worth watching is how the dark force is bent on finding and removing what is left of the Jedi while involving the kids. Good versus evil is defined in the characters as we get to know them and how they outnumber the Jedi and supporters.

For some this will be intriguing and highly praised. Others may find it somewhat a retread of plot and writing. But what isn't?

Baby is the Best
26 April 2022
One episode in and my interest has been captured. The baby's 'acting' glances and stares made me laugh out loud! So cute and funny as portrayed. But the bad part is how difficult the english is to understand to the point I needed subtitles. And I hate subtitles because I miss the acting. All things considered it is a plot worthy of a good show that is well made.

UPDATE: Watching episode 7 now and still interested and surprised. I've also gotten better at understanding and comprehending the speech and plot. It got a bit slow at times, but worth continuing the journey. Cheers UK friends!!

Just Like It Sounds
25 August 2021
If you're expecting spectacular writing to produce a more interesting plot development then you might be disappointed. Nick is abducted and will die at 5 million views on his posted video by the abductors. His wife runs from one to another to get him help even though they are not getting along and time is running out quickly. Expand this one major thread of who is behind this into eight episodes and it starts to get thin I'm sure.

True to its name, Clickbait does entice you to keep clicking to the next episode so far. Being that I'm only at the first two episodes it may be worth viewing them all but I don't expect anything more than a slow moving predictable story based on what I've seen so far. 5 1/2 Stars.

Engaging Comedy at its Best
20 August 2021
The university's in trouble with low student enrollment and some of the elder professors are at the core of the problem. The younger more talented staff is not without their own problems as Sandra Oh's character takes the Chair position to address the problems while contemplating her own needs and desires. It is quirky as well written and engaging, well acted, and plenty of star power. Lots of laughs.

If You Love Time Travel, Alien Bashing, well ...
2 July 2021
I do like time travel although there was no surprises in this aspect of the plot, and the hard to kill aliens were also no surprise either. Yet, it was very entertaining and held ones attention with the exception of the character development slow downs which almost every movie endures. I've seen so many bad sci-fi movies on prime that this was good to see that Amazon put some effort into making something worthwhile. Good action and special effects, plus it ain't over 'till it's over.

I Am Speechless
9 November 2020
I tried to give it at least a 4 but it is so bad that even a 3 is stretching it. The first noticeable thing is how bad the acting is followed closely by how bad the script is and I gave it a half hour thinking it might just get better. Even the 'music', the same ongoing music, is ... well you get it. There is just nothing to compel a person to stick around. Low budget I guess to fill some time during the pandemic. But watching paint dry is more fun.

Intriguing Movie
22 October 2020
This is one of those movies that is a bit raw in that it comes across as low budget but with a captivating plot that keeps your interest. As Benny confronts his loss and flaws he submits to more in hope of answers. And this is one point of bewilderment for me as a viewer in attempting to understand the ultimate outcome in my own mind. This has led me to internet research that has proved fruitless in clarifying what the movie achieved, and therefore rating it at first 5 starts, but then 6 when it certainly has kept me thinking about it and wondering if I missed something in trying to understand it. I will leave it there since a conclusion to what this movie was really about is, well, uncertain but entertaining.

Damn! Really Good Movie
5 February 2020
This movie takes you for a ride, a really really good ride that will have you saying damn! So well written and acted, the scenes are shot flawlessly as the story intrigues you and keeps you guessing where it is headed next. And the final payoff gives you the cream on top with nostalgia and answers you never expected. It seems like it had just started and over two hours later it had ended, leaving you wanting more. These movies don't come along often.

If It Weren't So Unbelievable
16 January 2020
I was hoping for a better twist and more than over the top action sequences. What I got was Will ducking bullets before the shot sounded and falls that would have killed a normal person. The story just didn't have enough content to keep me interested, but I guess it is worth a watch and it has 7 channel sound.

Refreshing Take on Hero Worship
30 July 2019
What would happen if there were super enhanced people, worshiped by the masses they protect, but who are flawed like us all. This series may be more honest in the portrayal of these characters than any written until now. And, if you look deep enough it is almost an inside honest appraisal of actors who are in essence the closest people we have to heroes. But while actors have less evident flaws and keep those things hidden to let their roles and out front deeds make them shine, these super heroes are covering their misdeeds in very similar fashion as written.

This is a refreshing take on popularity and the super hero fad of the time. It is surprising and well written. The effects are very good, as is the acting, and they provide you an insight into the problems and strife that befits the roles they play in a world buying into the mass hero worship.

It may not be a nine by the time the first season ends, but this certainly is a story worth watching for anyone caught up in the Marvel and DC universes, and anyone who likes a good twist on that story.

Heavily Dramatized but Worth a Watch
24 July 2019
Russell Crowe can play a pervert and heavy handed leader with ease, but it is over the top. I image most of the reality is generated with the uphill battle to create a network news channel that presented opposing views to the democratic control over most of the newer stations. It makes sense that conservatives are more reserved in essence, while the democrats are outspoken for change and government control to assure the people that need help, etc., are tended to. However, every institution/system needs input that best serves the task, for or against.

That Roger Ailes was tempted by the presence of beautiful women who drew in the news audiences is no surprise. It is rather consistent with people in power, right? His personality and know-how is what made the Fox News network work! Did he distort the facts? Don't they all. CNN just got heavily berated for pushing a false narrative. Several Fox news headliners fell due to charges. The opposing networks together may provide something accurate if you weed through it all. Probably better to just not even watch it.

So the story summary, it could be any news network, any head honcho, and it would be the same basic story, dramatized. The acting is okay, so it is worth a watch, but you can certainly live without it!

Oh My, Season 2. WTH
19 March 2019
Season 1 was a good watch with a great cliff-hanger ending. But season 2 belly flopped with poor writing and very little plot. In fact the last 4 episodes tried to build up to the big shoot out so slowly that I almost gave up on it. You can only act so scared of the mob for so long before it becomes so so. Season 2 may have doomed season 3.

Comedy that makes fun of itself and the actors
24 February 2019
A different style of comedy that is refreshing, funny, and makes fun of itself as well as YouTube. Nothing is off the table when it comes to how it really is behind the scenes as depicted in the plot lines. The gags are plentiful, star guest appearances prevalent, and it all makes sense after you get into the flow of the show. Who is Ryan Hansen? Had no idea until this show, but apparently he has been around for a while and is a great choice for this series. Worth the watch.

Acting carried the plot, first rate!
29 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
While the synopsis of the plot would suggest this movie and only two actors likely would bomb, this was amazingly interesting as the acting was top notch. The direction of the plot might even suggest two friends from youth might eventually be together were it not for the necessary twist that brought a more realistic, yet contrived, method of making this movie more sensible. Two teens were likely not going to run off together even as a Romeo and Juliet play might suggest.

As the acting and writing kept the view engaged, the one disappointing, yet only slightly and the reason for a two star deduction, plot twists that involved messages about gay bashing and father-daughter sexual misconduct. The positive outcome seemed less than realistic, but led to a way of ending the movie. Again, had the acting been bad the movie would not held one's interest.

So, yes even if you know the movie outcome the dialog and acting for this movie is well worth the viewing.

Clearly Portrays the Confusion of War
26 May 2017
Not knowing anything about the movie I was surprised that I was watching Brad Pitt with gravely George C Scott (Patton) voice and awkward stiff movements fool me, not knowing who he was! He looks so young. The movie did a great job of revealing the confusion of power that is the military and government in taking on a task of war against an enemy that likely would never have become an enemy if we had never moved against other powers in the region and caused the bitterness and anger we now face. Yet, it happened and the USA is now the great Satan and evil that is being fought against by terrorists and fighting in the middle-east. The movie finds the humor in military and government attempts to move politically and strategically with the great acting and directing. Many name stars and stars of the past make appearances, some stars that you might not immediately recognize, and carry the humor in the movie plot-line. And while it is not a strong plot-line it serves the purpose, reveals some of the ridiculous reasoning that surely happens in war, and creates an often believable mostly fast paced action that keeps your attention throughout the course of the movie. While the military is NOT the inept fighting force portrayed, the action of government intervention and politics truly must be seen as the master hindrance of warfare, and rightly so perhaps. The movie does make you think about things! As it was a little silly, and a little weak in plot, I knocked off some stars. But it was certainly funny and worth watching.

Great acting, but another weak story
17 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
It is hard to beat the Sixth Sense and Signs, and I was hopeful that the storyline would prevail to this end. But, it didn't measure up and even Bruce Willis showing up could not make a surprise ending possible. The acting was superb and James McAvoy managed the 24 personalities exceptionally well, in fact, the best I have seen since Sally Fields. And while even a supernatural element at the end made it interesting it failed to produce that feeling of satisfaction I wanted, if not expected from M Knight. It may be worth watching again to detect any missed easter eggs or twists, but I can only give it slightly better than average and not up to Sixth Sense standards.

Iron Fist (2017–2018)

If You Like DareDevil
18 March 2017
I liked Daredevil and I liked Jessica Jones, so Iron Fist was a pleasant surprise with good chemistry between the characters and a relatively good story line that has kept me guessing through seven episodes. The Hand became the focus just as in Daredevil, but I had no idea what the Iron Fist meant going into the series. I like the writing and how the characters and plot develop, not too fast, not too slow. I'm hoping for more back story on the Hand, too. Each episode leaves one wanting for more and it is hard not to binge watch this one, well, if seven episodes in two days doesn't count! Enjoy!!
