I viewed this movie for the first time on 9-17-2001. I was not prepared for the intense reaction I had given the events of 9-11-2001. This is a really intense movie. Given the recent news reports of how terrorists have integrated themselves into American society, it is worthy of attention and discussion. Be forewarned it is disturbing at times.
I would not rent this movie, but it was perfect for a rainy Sunday afternoon. My kids were intrigued by the storyline and even though it was quite predictable, we had fun watching and commenting on the action. It definitely was a movie that called for a lot of ongoing analysis of character motivation ("now, why'd he do that?" and "my theory is, he is going ..."). A bit campy and predictable but fun.
My 11 year old daughter and I really enjoyed this film. There is an awkward bit of editing at the beginning but then everything thereafter goes very smoothly. Jim Belushi cracked me up completely and seemed just perfect in his role. David Duchovny was a surprise--no brooding or darkened rooms, just good solid romantic comedy acting. It was also an excellent ensemble piece with lots of good supporting characters moving the story along. I'm not sure my husband would get into this movie as much as we did but we definitely enjoyed it. We also had a serious conversation on the way home about transplants and the meaning of life--pretty heavy stuff for a preadolescent but it got her thinking and talking!
