American Pie (1980)
Good movie
25 January 2005
I remember seeing this and many movies of this ilk during the early heyday of the Playboy Channel.

Of course many of the graphic scenes were cut, but me and a lot of my college friends could have cared less as we knew what was happening. Eric Edwards, an excellent actor and far better than today's lot played against type (yes, that's possible in adult films) as a hoodlum along with sidekick Randy West. They kidnap the girls where ultimately they end up falling for them.

Lee Carroll is hilarious as the comic relief.

I guess Mr. Edwards made an earlier comment on this movie, which was pretty cool. The said actress he was with from a later movie was the late Angelique Pettyjohn, who guested on the original Star Trek episode "Gamesters of Triskilion." She did several other legit roles in episodes like Get Smart and appeared in an Elvis Presley movie and the cult classic "Repo Man." Would love to hear from Eric Edwards on how that came to be.

Anyway, one of the better adult movies.

One of the Best
17 January 2005
Definitely one of the best films ever made. The other films apart, this was the masterpiece for David Lean, Peter O'Toole and Omar Shariff. Even the small parts by greats like the immortal Claude Raines were perfectly done.

Like other comments, this movie is best viewed (or perhaps mandatory's the word) in a big screen theatre. To outsiders the movie can be deemed as long, sprawling and slow-moving, but it's truly wonderous in its scope with A++ acting from an A+ acting ensemble and the locations were second to none, but that's what one would expect from a David Lean production.

Women might not like it as there were no speaking parts for them, but tell me where would even one line fit for a woman?

A must see and one of the essentials in movie history.

One of the all-time greats
2 November 2004
Definitely one of the best of its genres.

The Toxic Avenger is up there with other great "B" movies like Death Race 2000, Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.

It's a shame though that you really didn't hear a whole lot about some of the actors like Andree Maranda afterwards. It's the only movie she ever made putting her in a class with Alicia Rhett (India from Gone With the Wind).

USA Network used to show the movie and its sequels quite frequently in the 90s, but I haven't seen it on tape or DVD in more than five years. But when it comes out, I'm buying it.

Troma's best bar none in my opinion.

One by One (1974)
Interesting but graphic
4 January 2004
Saw this on tape several years ago, as I'm a huge Formula 1 fan.

While this documentary is a representation of the 1973 Formula 1 season and was released in 1974, it's disturbing that graphic footage of Tom Pryce's horrifying accident at the 1977 South African Grand Prix was included.

It was probably included to make an extra dollar, but really had no reason being there as it had nothing to do with the 1973 season (Pryce wasn't even driving in F1 at the time).

Aside from that, it's a good and gripping documentary about the racers, races and season in general. There is more graphic footage of the Roger Williamson crash, where he was killed and Clay Regazzoni's crash (he survived), but the interviews with Francois Cevert are good.

If you're a racing fan and like history, this is okay, but edit out the opening sequence.

H.O.T.S. (1979)
Drive In Hall of Fame
30 April 2003
I saw this several years ago on the Playboy channel. It featured a few Playmates (Kiger & Bryant--an Indianapolis native), a future T.V. sidekick of Mike Hammer (Bloom) and a has-been child star (Bonaduce) all frolicking in the highjinks of college.

Throw in a Hattie McDaniel/Lillian Randolph type maid for comedy relief, lots of boobies and some strip football and you have all the makings of a classic drive-in movie. H.O.T.S. was made after the success of National Lampoon's Animal House, and in some ways was better--more or less because of the girlies. While the plots not memorable (poor girls getting even with rich vixens) it does have its classic moments like the pie fight from a hot-air balloon, nude skydiving--performed wonderfully by the late Angela Aames, the real life bear scenes and the strip football game.

Not a movie to watch with your wife/girlfriend/concubine/lover, but instead one to watch with a buddy or several guys over a six-pack, pizza and snacks.

Cheesy Sci-Fi Fun
25 April 2003
This is one of those movies you have to watch with an open mind. I remember seeing it during the 70s on the local television show "Creature Feature" and marveled at how something so cheap be so bad, yet fun.

The only real name here is James Karen, however Lou Cutell is an accomplished character actor in several movies. I only wish they would show this movie more as I haven't seen it in more than 20 years. I remember the monster the Martians had was big, furry and ugly and later the "Creature Feature" would use his mug in the stills promoting the show.

Since the plot is pretty much covered by other posters, I'll spare my interpretation, however I will add that the Play-Do ears on Cutell's effeminate character (he looks like a crazed, pedophilac Vulcan) make the movie along with Frank's "Two-Face" part.

All in all good fun to watch. Just don't take it seriously.

Plotless, but if you like Aunt Peg...
23 January 2001
This was pretty much a vehicle for Juliet Anderson's "Aunt Peg" character. There's really not much of a plot here, just an excuse for massive sex. In this one, she's the producer of the next big adult movie and all the actresses want to star in it. They get plenty of opportunities to practice their "scenes" with two lucky friends who "happen" to be everywhere the girls are. The best scene is probably at the end when two movie critics (one being Linda Shaw) decide to create a new ending to the film. Worth a few laughs, but this is for Aunt Peg fans.

One of Seka's more entertaining films
16 November 2000
Warning: Spoilers
This is what the title says, a rockin' adventure with that platinum porno queen of the 80s, Seka.

Seka plays a stewardess that recounts her sexual escapades to her two roommates (and co-workers). One of Seka's roomies is a rookie stewardess eager to fulfill her desires and soon does.

Seka works with three of the top male stars of the time (Holmes, Gillis and Ranger) and seems to be enjoying herself immensely (as do they!).

Probably the best scene of the "movie" is the opening one where Gillis takes on Seka, Aunt Peg (Juliet Anderson) and another actress (Tilly Sanchez) in a rare foursome that is as interesting as it is erotic.

It's obvious that although the plot was pretty weak and stereotypical (stewardesses and pilots getting it on) the movie is entertaining especially for Seka fans. Actually you don't have to be a Seka fan to be entertained.

I remember!
26 September 2000
Yes, I remember this movie because of the headless dummy scene. It scared the c**p out of me too and I would have to rank that up there with the hand coming out of the grave scene from "Carrie" as one of the scariest moments in filmdom (even if this was a Television Movie).

Sexploitation at it's best
31 July 1999
Those that put too much thought into this movie are missing the point. It was made for a few reasons; one to make a buck, and two, to bring in guys to watch scantily clad, exotic European women try to act, and I guarantee they weren't there to watch them act. They were there to watch the actresses run around in their bikinis and garter belts. Think about it, the ultimate male fantasy. To be alone on an island with several beautiful (and presumably willing) ladies.

Is it cheap? Sure. Is it poorly done? Perhaps. But this movie is no different or worse than the other B-grade European sexploitation or even American films of the same genre.

It's good for a laugh and the women were certainly enticing then as they would be now.

Unless you're Leonard Maltin or Roger Ebert, I say watch it and enjoy. Don't try to figure it out.
