Mick J's rating
We saw this film four or five times, always as the second film of a double program. It was one of our "film-culte". Not a masterpiece at all, just a little film, really simple, with no stars... but it has something, don't know what... It's one of these films you'll remember for the rest of your life and you don't really know why! The songs of Elton John, "Benny and the Jets" and "Your Song" are exactly where they were made for. I saw for the last time about 20 years ago but I know I'll see it again one day. I'm not sure this kind of film exists anymore.
A very good film for all hockey lovers, especially those who used to collect hockey cards when they were young. Different from the book who inspired the movie, but good anyway. The actors are good (Denis Bouchard as uncle Maurice, Suzanne Champagne as the teacher, Luc Guérin as the father), the story is funny, the pictures are OK. A simple film, with a lot of tenderness, a celebration of friendship. Go to see it.
I don't understand why this film make it so big in Quebec. It's not so funny, there's only two or three good jokes (Luc Guérin when he says: Je dois pas être beau à voir!) but the rest is just too big, with no surprise. No subtlety. A big deception because the idea was good.
