D.Angel's rating
preaching to the perverted is i.m.h.o. an excellent film, one of the increasing number of well made british films that never really got anywhere (pity). A film that addresses the issues of censorship and consenting sado masochism you would think that it was all a little on the serious side, not the case, it manages to raise more than a few laughs along the way. The direction is superb with colour imagery being used very successfully throughout the film to bring to the for many of the topics that the film is trying to deal with. all in all worth a watch.
never in my life have three hours been spent in more boredom than when i watched this film. having read the short story i ignored my initial instinct (they never make good stephen king conversions) and hired the movie and invited over two of my friends having got past the first hour and a half i told my friends that there were some good bits coming up with mad men and monsters in it (it's stephen king after all) as it was the film progressively sucked our will to live to the point that none of us could get up and turn it off. the only thing keeping me alive at this point was the vague hope that the elusive langoliers in their brief appearance would save the film with some decent c.g.i`s however this was not to be and with my will thoroughly smashed i tried desperately to erase this film from my memory. Dean stockwell gives in a well underpar, lackluster and dare i say it monotonous performance, the script is awful and half of the film should be on the cutting room floor as it drags so slowly that it physically hurts. never hire this film my friends have never forgiven me for this choice and flinch noticeably at the mention of the title and as for myself i have permanent recurring nightmares about being forced to watch it over and over again.
