It's not much boring as it is irritating. Manandering, disjointed, confusing story in which nothing really happens. Too many actors in loud scenes talking over each other. Waste of Darren McGavin's talent. Manos, The Hands of Fate is a much more interesting and watchable film. It's in Spielberg's best interest it stays buried and is never released. The dull plot revolves around a high strung wife artist left alone in a country house with 2 young children while the husband works in the city. She convinced Satan lurks around the house, and appears as "the wind" to menace everyone, for no reason given. And nothing really happens.

Great film! An excellent example of good SF that doesn't focus on special effects and a very engaging story that keeps you glued to the end, not only is it good SF, it's good film making. Even though it's 50 years old I found it to be a new take on the tired alien abduction/invasion "We Are Not Alone" storyline. Even with the 100 million dollar budgets of today's SF films they can't make a story as compelling as this one.

I don't recall having seen this before TCM ran it on New Year's day 2007 (and I suspect most of the other voters saw it then as well) but it should take its place next to comparable films such as On the Beach, The Day the Earth Caught Fire, When Worlds Collide, The Magnetic Monster (another lost gem) and Day the Earth Stood Still.

Cornel Wilde is excellent in this dark drama about a group of hoods on the run who show up at the door of a remote home snow bound in winter. We learn more about the relationship between the leader of the hoods (Cornel Wilde) and the family he's holding captive as the move unfolds. Very tense, engrossing film that you won't want to take your eyes off.
