I read the book six times, and couldn't wait to see the movie. I was rather put off at first because so much of the movie is pure fiction. Charlie and Brendan only had one slight spat in their three years together in Borstal, and ended up the best of friends anyway. The young lady in the movie never existed, and much of the rest of the movie was oddly fictitious as well. Charlie Millwall was on the Southampton when it was sunk off of Malta (in the Mediterranean), but I assume they used the HMS Prince Of Wales because they had film footage dealing with the sinking of that ship, and it made a good way for Brendan to find out that Charlie was dead (far more powerful than the scene in the book and the one in the play).
Despite all of that, I loved the movie. Brendan Behan did actually say "the English can love people without them being seven feet tall or a hundred years dead." I believe he made that statement because he knew Charlie Millwall so well, and had seen many other good people among the English people with whom he was connected in one way or another. The Warden, Mr. Joyce, was a very good person, and so were many others.
I do believe that Brendan Behan had a serious relationship with Charlie Millwall (it's obvious in the book, even though it's never spelled out exactly). I would recommend the book to anyone, and believe that the movie was very good, the fictitious content nothwithstanding.
Shawn Hatosy does a very good job in the movie, and Danny Dyer is better yet. Don't miss this movie.

I'd recommend this movie to anybody who is looking for a good family type movie.
The actors in this were fabulous. I agree with Skander that the witch would give Voldemort a bad time. Aslan was great, the kids were all great actors and everything in the movie clicked. I've seen it 4 times and plan to see it many more. I was particularly taken with the excellent job done by "Mr. Tumnus" (can't remember his name now), and by all four of the kids.
I wonder how many people know that many children were sent out of the cities during the blitz and many of them were never reunited with their families. I knew one in Australia whose family were evidently killed and he stayed there.
The special effects in this movie were especially good, and I think some of the scenes are actually better than "The Lord Of The Rings".
Again, I'd advise you to take the time to see this great movie.

This movie is awesome. It nails Bush to the wall with his own words. I have never seen anything like it. It is the most important movie of our lifetimes, and I recommend you see it immediately if at all possible. This is your chance to get involved in the political life of the nation. Don't let the lies of the radical right keep you from seeing this movie. The future of the U.S. and of the whole world depends on you and your vote. If you don't believe me, look at how small the margin was that Gore won over Bush and how easily it was turned around by the Republican justices on the Supreme court. Don't let that happen again. SEE THIS MOVIE IF IT'S THE ONLY MOVIE YOU SEE ALL YEAR.
