This movie was pretty bad and took alot of effort to sit through. It's based on the book Virgin by James Patterson but only very loosely (the book is much better). As i understand it, this was originally a made for cable (USA network) movie..which explains alot. Not only was the plot pretty ridiculous, but i..being Catholic..found many of the scenes offensive. The premise sounds great (sort of a combination of Rosemary's Baby and The Omen) but the acting and the story were laughable. The only reason i sat through until the end was because i had read the book and wanted to see how far the movie deviated from the book. It deviated alot...and not in a good way.
I agree with several of the other user comments. The special effects were great..unfortunately, the dialog and story seems to have been lifted from a made for TV movie. I didn't really believe any of the actors and have a hard time imagining that the crew of the real Andrea Gail was laughing and smiling throughout the "storm of the century" as portrayed in the movie (even when the ship went down and he was about to drown, George Clooney had a ridiculous grin on his face; i somehow doubt that that's how it happened in real life). Also, the final speech by Mark Walberg really made me cringe. Probably worth seeing at a matinee just for the effects but don't expect a great story. I was pretty disappointed. If you want to know the real story, check out the book; it's much more plausible
