Donnie Darko (2001)
Simultainously wierd and amazing.
This movie totally blew me away. Beautifully written, directed, scored and photographed. This visuals in the movie were particularly amazing, blending the normality of suburbia with the dark undertones in a perfect balance. Plot wise this movie was amazing with a story that slowly unfolds intelligently. Jake Gyllenhaal really shows that he can cope with a very chilling subject matter and still make the character likable. The score to this movie added a huge amount of emotion to the already engrossing scenes that made this movie VERY worth watching.
Kissing Jessica Stein (2001)
Come on people ?
Ok I enjoyed this movie till the tripe and discustingly hollywood ending. An unsual movie spoilt by a simple overly simplistic ending. Good movie ,. shame that it chickened out in the end. please please please could someone actually have the balls to write about gay characters that dont "come good" in the end. Its almost as if this movie were saying its a bad thing to be gay.
Sleeper (1973)
Trash ,. complete and utter trash.
This movie is a prime example of a star driven movie. The only reason it even saw the light of day is because of woody allen. And he definitely shows his lack of talent in this boring piece of slop cinema. It felt like I was watching a student film.
National Lampoon's Van Wilder (2002)
Wow ,. a college movie ?!
This movie is such a cookie cutter movie. It was hard to tell if scriptbot 2.03 or 2.04 wrote it. Full of college movie cliches ,. the evil uptight guy with the sexy girl,. the geeky friend that the cool guy is helping.
Whats the point ? There is none, this movie shouldnt have been made.
The All New Alexei Sayle Show (1994)
Awesome.
Insanely funny ,. Alexis is one of the funniest UK comedians. And with UK being the home of all good comedy thats really saying something. If you up for a good laugh check this show out. Definitely not a cookie cutter show ,.. very original.
The Bourne Identity (2002)
Fantastic
This movie has a really feel to it that sucks you in. Any movie both me(20's) and my mother (in her 50's) can watch and both enjoy is a good on in my books. Franka Potente is excellent in this movie ,. If you are looking for more of her work see Anatome. Also Matt Damon is perfect for the titular character.
Vanilla Sky (2001)
Overly long.
This movie had a big story to tell ,. sadly it told it in a long winded way. After the second hour I was just toiling through to see the end. That said very good performances from all the cast, except for tom cruise, another actor could have really made this movie a lot more interesting.
The ending mind you is incredibly poetic. It hits you on many different levels. If you decide to watch it ,. watch it all they way, its worth it.
Enemy at the Gates (2001)
Amazing story, Amazing script & Amazing Acting.
This movie missed my radar when it was on it way through the cinema's. Gladly I watched the DVD. Fantastic movie. A must see for Ed Harris facing off with Jude Law. Also starring the beautiful Rachel Weisz this movie is a hit.
My Summer with Des (1998)
A movie with real soul.
This movie is a definite must see. Even not being a huge fan of football(soccer) this movie held me captivated. Acting is definitely top caliber. Rachel Weisz is absolutely amazing in this movie.
Signs (2002)
Scary and funny at all the right spots.
Signs really gave me the chills in a lot of places and made me laugh in others. Some people might not see this as a fairly funny movie. But in some places Shyamalan's pokes at other movies in this genre were pure gold. All in all a very good movie.
Birthday Girl (2001)
Excellent, Fine example of Kidmans range.
Excellent movie, albeit slightly predictable. I have to comment on Nicole Kidmans acting in this movie. Some of her other works haven't shown the amazing talent this woman has, but Birthday Girl doesn't suffer from this in the slightest. Even without words Kidmans acting shines through.
Sabrina Down Under (1999)
Absolutely disgusting.
Made Australian's out to be a bunch of hicks. The take they have on Australian society is so far from the truth its ridiculous. Acting is also below par even for a sabrina movie.
The Thin Red Line (1998)
Boring crap.
Pure and utter drivel. It felt like I was watching an arthouse movie. I couldn't sympathise with any of the characters. I couldn't fault the actors on this one ,. the acting was fair but the movie just didnt seem to flow.
Dragonfly (2002)
Costner couldnt do it.
This movie was boring ,. the story plodded along so slowly that I almost left.
The movie might have been tolerable with another actor, But Costner couldn't carry the movie like it needed.
The story was slow and predictable. Not worth the free tickets it cost to go.
A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
Boring.
This movie started with a less than new idea and went nowhere with it. Its so boring I almost walked out. The starts off slow and gets slower. Packed with special effects and devoid of anything interesting. Spielberg should be ashamed for releasing this.
Hard Evidence (1996)
Absolutely fantastic.
This movie shows the talents of both Jenna Jameson and Jeanna Fine in perfect detail. The acting is absolutely top caliber. The story is sometimes slow and labored but it finally comes through to be a shocking tale of suspense.
