The Last Gentleman (1934)
An absolute gem !
This is one of the best movies I have ever seen ! I know of no one else who has ever seen it, unfortunately, because it is rarely shown on TV. It is simply hilarious .
The subject is timeless; the acting is wonderful; and the story line is delightful. Do not miss this one if you are ever so lucky as to find it.
My Pal Gus (1952)
Foghorn Winslow Does It Again
Any movie with George " Foghorn " Winslow is fun ! I know that's a generalization of the first magnitude , but it happens to be true. This is a little movie - but a good one . It's definitely a 50's style family affair . Richard Widmark softens his act and comes across as very believable . When " Foghorn " is on screen , however , the film belongs to him . Enjoy .
Many Rivers to Cross (1955)
A genuine " sleeper "
This is simply a charming , funny movie . Robert Taylor is exceptionally good - as is the supporting cast in general. Well-made Western comedies seem few and far between .
The movie was not well publicized upon its release as I recall , nor was it rated as top flight . It's hardly ever seen on television.
The film can easily be described as wholesome - a rarity more today than back in the 50's . Its tone and style reflect the mood of the times.
By all means , catch it if you can .
The Kennel Murder Case (1933)
A true classic of the mystery genre.
This is one of those movies that you wish you hadn't seen before - so you could see it again " for the first time " . Van Dine's books still bring pleasure - but are termed excessively flowery by many . This movie is by far the best film adaptation of his works . William Powell is William Powell - say no more . The plot is intricate . The story moves all too quickly , because you want it to last . Enjoy.
