We all know the drill sobby story with little depth. This story felt real to me. I have seen some changes for the better, but I was teaching in the early 2000's and I bought into the whole story. (English teacher/counselor was a stretch but necessary to keep the plot moving) The young woman playing Jane was amazing. Stockard Channing was, well Stodkard Channing and RuPaul was how do I say it understated and warm. As an older adult who has at times tried out a lot of labels I found that this film captured the angst and the joy that can come from discovering yourself and finding the freedom to be.
To be honest I could have done without the last part, it seemed like a how to be a better parent add on, but it did add some closure.

This movie is a slow starter. You may even say what's the point where is it going as the two lead characters meander through life and the inevitable meeting. Even then it just goes on like a Summer's afternoon until finally it is evening and everything starts to come together. When it is all said and done, you will want more, you will have fallen in love with two beautiful, flawed, hurting but wonderful characters. There is a tremendous sense of peace as the possibilities as growth become visible shoots and it is figuratively Spring again.
Will any of it last? Where do we get guarantees? Is the ending a satisfactory outgrowth of the narrative? Most definitely. Take a chance, there is a reward waiting.
