  • Almost five years later, "The Cure" is still my favorite film of all.

What can I say? I love this movie like no other film ever made. It is flawed and unrealistic and has a few holes in the plot you can stick your fingers through. None of that matters. This movie has heart. It has the best portrayal of friendship and brotherhood that I have ever seen in a movie. Mazzello and Renfro deserve medals for they great job they did. They really brought Dexter and Erik to life.

There is love and truth in this story. It might even crack through the armor of hardened cynics (if anything can).

It's the one laserdisc I would take to a desert island (wired for electricity, of course). Next runner up, a similar but completely different movie from 1993 called "Digger".

  • Digger is a deep, rich masterpiece which reveals itself slowly.

"Digger" is a hauntingly beautiful film, with subtle magic in it. The musical score is gorgeous, and the visuals will help you remember what a mysterious, exotic world our planet is. Joshua Jackson gives the best performance by a young actor in the 1990s, in his portrayal of Billy, a young mage who befriends the lonely title character (Adam Hann-Byrd).

This is a movie that gets better with repeated viewings. The only other film of its kind that has similar power is 1995's "The Cure".
