Get ready for another enchanting episode of “Disney Jr’s Ariel,” airing Thursday, June 27th, 2024, at 10:25 Am on Disney. Together, they decipher clues that lead them on a thrilling treasure hunt, encountering playful sea creatures and overcoming obstacles along the way.

The Jackson 5 have found their harmony once again for the upcoming biopic “Michael” from director Antoine Fuqua and Oscar-winning producer Graham King.

After a worldwide search led filmmakers to cast Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, as the King of Pop, with 9-year-old Juliano Krue Valdi as the younger Michael, fans have been eagerly waiting to see who would round out the rest of the Jackson family.

The film, which is scheduled to hit theaters on April 18, 2025, is currently in production. Oscar-nominee Colman Domingo assumes the role of family patriarch Joe Jackson with Nia Long as mother Katherine Jackson, plus Miles Teller as lawyer John Branca.

Now, the eight actors who will portray Jackson’s four brothers — who come together to form the massively popular singing group the Jackson 5 — have been revealed: Jamal R. Henderson plays Jermaine Jackson in the film’s later years, while Jayden Harville plays the younger version.

Disney started pulling content from its direct-to-consumer streaming platform Disney+ earlier this year, following the streaming content bubble bursting spectacularly. Now some of it is beginning to reappear – on paid platforms.

Seasons of shows were unceremoniously zapped from the app, along with several high profile made-for-Disney+ movies, including “Crater,” which was erased a little more than a month after debuting on the platform. Those movies are back – and available to rent or buy on the PVOD platform of your choice

Disney didn’t publicize this; they just showed up with as little fanfare as when they were removed in the first place.

The removed titles now available to rent (for around $4) or buy (for $20) are “Artemis Fowl,” “Better Nate Than Never,” “Crater,” “Cheaper by the Dozen,” “Flora & Ulysses,” “Stargirl,” “Hollywood Stargirl,” “The One and Only Ivan,” “Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made” and documentary “Wolfgang.” Disney+ original films that have...

Following the cancellations of ABC’s “Alaska Daily” and “The Company You Keep” in May, both series are being pulled off Hulu as part of Disney’s ongoing review and removal of content in an effort to cut costs.

The shows, which were initially set to remain on the streamer until September, will now be removed next month. However, they will still be available through iTunes and Amazon.

Other impacted shows include the Rashida Jones comedy “Angie Tribeca,” NBC’s “Blindspot,” Samantha Bee and Jason Jones’ “The Detour” and TNT’s “The Last Ship,” which will be removed on July 1.

Martyn Ford (“Shao Kahn”), Desmond Chiam (“King Jerrod”), Ana Thu Nguyen (“Sindel”), and Damon Herriman (“Quan Chi”) have been cast in the sequel to New Line’s hit 2021 action adventure “Mortal Kombat” based on the blockbuster video game franchise, New Line announced on Thursday morning.

The new additions join a cast which include Karl Urban as “Johnny Cage,” Tati Gabrielle as “Jade,” and Adeline Rudolph as “Kitana.”

The returning cast from “Mortal Kombat” includes Lewis Tan as “Cole Young”; Jessica McNamee as “Sonya Blade”; Josh Lawson as “Kano”; Tadanobu Asano as “Lord Raiden”; Mehcad Brooks as “Jax”; Ludi Lin as “Liu Kang”; Chin Han as “Shang Tsung”; Joe Taslim as “Bi-Han” and “Sub-Zero”; Hiroyuki Sanada as “Hanzo Hasashi” and “Scorpion”; Max Huang as “Kung Lao.”

The entire media landscape is in a serious transition period right now. Yes, streaming is the future (and that is why the Writer's Guild of America is on strike right now), but that future is probably going to look more like traditional TV than anyone thought a handful of years ago. 

Part of that has to do with ad-supported, video-on-demand services (AVOD) such as Tubi, which have become quite popular in recent years -- particularly for those of us who are tired of paying for any number of subscription-based services such as Netflix. As previously teased during the company's quarter one earnings call, the company is purging several titles from its streaming services, Disney+ and Hulu.

The practice has become common in recent months, with HBO Max leading the charge, wiping several projects from existence.

Undoubtedly, fans and creatives are struggling with the concept, but maybe some of the affected shows could show up elsewhere.

"We will be removing certain content from our streaming platforms and currently expect to take an impairment charge of approximately $1.5 to $1.8 billion," Disney's chief financial officer, Christine McCarthy, said during the earnings call.

Westworld, The Nevers, and other HBO fare popped back up on Fast services shortly after the controversial decision.

But for some shows, this could be the death knell that could be the difference whether new fans find them down the line.

For Halloween 2021, Disney+ entered the world of R.L. Stine with “Just Beyond,” an 8-episode anthology series based on Stine’s line of comic books. The series never got a second season, with Disney+ leaving its fate hanging in the balance these past two years.

Unfortunately, we’ve learned this week that Stine’s “Just Beyond” will be one of many Disney+ original projects that are soon being deleted from the streaming service entirely.

As The Hollywood Reporter explains, “Disney is following Warner Bros. Discovery and removing under-performing titles from its streaming services in a bid to write off nearly $2 billion from its bottom line. In all, there are more than 30 shows that will be removed starting next week from the platforms in this first round of reductions. The titles will vanish starting May 26.”

Disney will remove select series, movies, and specials from Disney+ and Hulu, The decision was initially announced on May 10th during a Disney earnings call, and the list of impacted titles has now been revealed. Among there are the recently released Willow sequel series, Y: The Last Man, Danny Boyle’s Sex Pistols series Pistol, and The World According to Jeff Goldblum.

“We are in the process of reviewing the content on our Dtc services to align with the strategic changes in our approach to content curation,” Disney CFO Christine McCarthy said during the call.

Other titles in the purge include the Turner & Hooch reboot, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Just Beyond, Diary of a Future President, The Mysterious Benedict Society, The Hot Zone, Maggie, and more. Check out the full list below.

Streaming fans are still stinging after HBO Max took a hatchet to their library within the last few months. Now, the same strategy is playing out with Disney, as Disney+ and Hulu are set to lose several titles as early as next week.

Outlets like Vulture, Deadline, and Variety report different lists of disappearing titles, including “Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings,” “Big Shot,” “Magic Camp,” “The Mysterious Benedict Society,” “The World According to Jeff Goldblum,” and “Willow.” The full extent of the purge may not be known until after it occurs. Allegedly, these cuts will help the services become more profitable. But for viewers, these cuts simply mean less content on the platform.

The biggest flop on the list appears to be “Willow.

Several titles, including Disney+’s “Willow” and “Big Shot” and Hulu’s “Dollface” and “Y: The Last Man,” will no longer be available to stream globally beginning May 26.

Impacted titles that will soon depart Disney+ include “The Mysterious Benedict Society,” “Big Shot,” Turner & Hooch,” “Willow,” “The Making Of Willow,” “Just Beyond,” “The World According To Jeff Goldblum,” “The One And Only Ivan,” “Timmy Failure,” “Be Our Chef,” “Magic Camp,” “Howard,” “Earth To Ned,” “Foodtastic,” “Stuntman,” “Disney Fairy Tale Weddings,” “Wolfgang” and “It’s a Dog’s Life With Bill Farmer.”

Likewise, Disney will remove Hulu titles “Pistol,” Dollface,” “The Quest,” “The Hot Zone,” “Y: The Last Man,” “Maggie,” “Little Demon,” “The Premise,” “Love In The Time Of Corona,” “Everything’s Trash,” “Best In Snow” and “Best In Dough.

Both Disney+ and Hulu will “pull an HBO Max” on Friday, May 26, and (not-so-)quietly remove dozens of shows from their respecting streaming libraries.

Add Disney+ and Hulu to the list of streamers whose complete slate of original shows and films is no longer guaranteed to be there the next time you go looking for it. According to Vulture, the Disney-owned streamers are set to remove some titles from their catalog as soon as next week. The list of titles includes the high-budget "Willow" sequel series, the Danny Devito-led animated series "Little Demon," and the highly-anticipated yet swiftly canceled comic adaptation, "Y: The Last Man," among others.

While this content purge follows in the footsteps of Warner Bros Discovery's much-criticized decision to make select titles disappear from streaming for tax reasons last year, Vulture reports that the Disney+ and Hulu titles are likely set to resurface elsewhere — a guarantee that HBO Max was slow to make when its content started to disappear. Well, this is just depressing. It was reported last week that Disney would start removing content from their streaming services, and the first casualties have been revealed. The dozens of TV shows and specials from Disney+ and Hulu that will be removed on May 26th include Willow, Big Shot, Y: The Last Man, and many more. Considering that Willow premiered on Disney+ less than a year ago… it hurts.

A “Pitch Perfect” series has been ordered at Peacock with Adam Devine onboard to reprise his role from the film franchise, Variety has learned exclusively.

The series is set several years after the events of the films. Devine returns as Bumper Allen, who moves to Germany to revive his music career when one of his songs becomes big in Berlin.

Bumper was the main antagonist of the first film and the leader of the all-male a cappella group The Treblemakers. He returned in the second film as a supporting character and the love interest of Rebel Wilson’s character, Fat Amy. He worked as a backup singer for John Mayer before returning to his alma mater, Barden University, as a security guard.

“Pitch Perfect” will be written by Megan Amram, who will also serve as executive producer and showrunner. Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman of Brownstone Productions will also executive...

Exclusive: Desmond Chiam, the Australian-born actor who can currently be seen as Flag Smashers member Dovich in the Marvel and Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, has signed with The Gersh Agency for representation.

Chiam’s break-out role in Australia was playing the villainous General Riga in the second season of The Shannara Chronicles series. He was also part of the lead cast of the short-lived ABC crime drama, Reef Break, along with Poppy Montgomery and Ray Stevenson, and recurred on the Starz series Now Apocalypse. Other TV credits include NCIS: Los Angeles, Hawaii Five-0, and Bones.

On the film side, Chiam most recently appeared in the Disney+ family comedy, Magic Camp, starring Adam DeVine and Gillian Jacobs.

In addition to his acting credits, Chiam has a law degree from the University of Melbourne and also a master’s degree in Screenwriting from the University of Southern California.

Just nine months into its existence, and Disney+ original programming has already run the full gamut, from critically beloved series like “The Mandalorian” to theatrical cast-offs best left forgotten. One piece of programming mostly missing so far: , family-friendly fare to fill a lazy Friday night. And while there’s nothing wrong with that, the lack of imagination on display in Mark Waters’ “Magic Camp” is almost more depressing than the incomprehensible weirdness of Kenneth Branagh’s Ya flop. At least that film was trying for something.

The best warning of what’s to come arrives in the opening credits: the film comes from six screenwriters, and while many of the half-dozen scribes (not counting the two additional with only “story by” credits) it took to write “Magic Camp” are quite talented folk, little of that magic makes its way into this feature. It’s Friday, and you know what that means, Disney lovers? Yes, Disney Plus has just added its weekly haul of new content. This time, there are 17 fresh titles going up on the site. These include a couple of major blockbusters, a batch of new TV episodes, a lot of National Geographic docu-series and a D+ original movie.

The latest original to land on the streaming service is Magic Camp, starring Adam DeVine as a down-on-his-luck magician who takes a job as a counsellor at a magic camp and finds that the misfit kids there help him rediscover his love of magic. The synopsis calls it “a heartwarming comedy about finding joy and confidence in self-acceptance,” and Jeffrey Tambor and Gillian Jacobs also feature.

Disney Plus subscribers may have just spent their weekend working their way through all the new content that arrived on the streaming service last Friday, so let’s look ahead to what’s headed to the site at the end of this week. It’s an even larger haul than the last one, comprising 18 movies and TV shows. There’s a little bit of everything coming this Friday, too, including a ton of National Geographic content, some new stuff for the children and a quartet of major movies – two previously released big hits and two Disney + Originals.

As part of the site’s Summer Movie Nights season, Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp lands on Friday. With the addition of this 2018 sequel starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly, that leaves just three McU films that are not on D+ – The Incredible Hulk and the two Spider-Man flicks.

Over the past few months, Disney Plus has cemented itself within the streaming world as a force to be reckoned with. With Marvel movies, The Mandalorian and now a unique recording of the acclaimed Broadway musical Hamilton inside its library, among many other things, the service is here to stay – much to the chagrin of Netflix.

Although Disney Plus adds a smaller amount of content to its collection than most of its competitors, the company certainly packs a punch. For proof of that, look no further than August, in which Disney’s popular service is set to upload a handful of interesting new shows and films.

To begin with, we’ve got Muppets Now. The very first original, unscripted series to be produced by The Muppets Studio, it’ll center around Scooter as he tries to ensure that new episodes of Muppets Now get to streaming on time. The format...

Disney+ is out with its list of every new title coming in August.

Highlights include new episodes of “Muppets Now,” and “Howard,” a movie about the untold story of Howard Ashman, the lyricist behind Disney classics like “Aladdin,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Little Mermaid” and creator of musicals including “Little Shop of Horrors.”

Fun library titles being added to the streaming service include “The Peanuts Movie,” “X-Men,” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp.”

Other Disney+ Originals include episodes of “Weird But True” and “Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe.”

The platform may have raced past 50 million subscribers in virtually no time at all, but Disney Plus still frequently finds itself facing criticism for a relative lack of original content. The Mandalorian and more recently, Hamilton may have generated plenty of buzz online, but so far the streaming service has largely been sold on the strength of the Mouse House’s back catalogue.

Of course, there are a lot of high-profile projects in the works including the roster of Marvel Cinematic Universe shows, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, reboots for Home Alone, Inspector Gadget, The Mighty Ducks and many more, but there hasn’t exactly been a lot of original feature-length movies to keep viewers occupied lately.

In the new pandemic era of streaming entertainment, Disney+ has seemingly built up its own strategy. Every summer month has thus far been highlighted by one major movie and then complemented with the typical Disney content.

For August 2020, the big original movie of the hour is Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe. This will be the second Phineas and Ferb movie and the first to make its premiere via streaming. The film premieres on August 28 and finds the Phineas and Ferb gang back together again as they set out across the galaxy to rescue Candace.

Two other Disney+ originals of note this month are Howard (Aug. 7)and The One and Only Ivan (Aug. 14). Howard is a documentary about Howard Ashman, the unheralded lyricist behind Disney classics like Aladdin and The Little Mermaid. The One and Only Ivan is a film based on the book of the same...

We’ve still got lots to come over the next couple of weeks left in July, but let’s skip ahead to August and take a look at what’s new on Disney Plus next month. The Mouse House’s streaming service is currently in the middle of its Summer Movie Nights schedule, and that’s set to continue throughout August, too, bringing a bunch of major titles to the site’s library. Elsewhere, the month will see various documentaries and the latest episodes of D+’s ongoing series.

As always, Disney Plus will release new titles in batches every Friday and here’s a full list of every movie and TV show that’s coming to the service across August:

“Robin Hood” is getting the live-action, hybrid treatment at Disney+, which is developing a remake of the 1976 animated classic with “Blindspotting” director Carlos López Estrada at the helm.

Variety reported that the studio will bring Kari Granlund, who wrote Disney+’s live-action “Lady and the Tramp” launch film, to write the screenplay. Justin Springer, who produced Disney’s “Dumbo” remake, will produce the “Robin Hood” remake. Like Disney’s “The Jungle Book” and “Dumbo” reboots, the upcoming “Robin Hood” film will mix CGI with live-action. The deals closed in early March. Additional details, such as casting or a potential release date, are undetermined.

Izabella Alvarez (Westworld), Nia Holloway (Hawaii Five-o) and Hope Lauren (Supergirl) are set as series regulars opposite Luke Mitchell and Stella Baker in the CW drama pilot The Republic of Sarah, from Jeffrey Paul King, Marc Webb, CBS TV Studios and studio-based Fulwell 73. Additionally, Kat Candler is set to direct and executive produce the pilot.

Written by King, in The Republic of Sarah, faced with the destruction of her town at the hands of a greedy mining company, rebellious high school history teacher Sarah Cooper (Baker) utilizes an obscure cartographical loophole to declare independence. Now Sarah must lead a young group of misfits as they attempt to start their own country from scratch.

Adam Devine is heading to Quibi with a lot of Bad Ideas. The Righteous Gemstones star is set to headline Bad Ideas with Adam Devine, a wacky celebrity reality series for the short-form video platform, from Mak Pictures.

A few examples. Devine mending an underwater fence in piranha infested waters? Not a good idea. Devine acting as human chum to attract the piranhas while someone else mends the fence? Now that’s a Really Bad Idea.

Bad Ideas with Adam Devine (Wt) is Devine’s twisted take on an adventure series. In each episode, he and a famous actor or comedian will travel to a new location in search of adventures that are already inherently dangerous – only they’ll add their own extra special sauce to ensure they are truly terrible choices.

According to THR, Josie Totah has been set as the lead cast member in the forthcoming revival.

Totah is best-known for her role on the one-and-done NBC comedy series, Champions.

The 18-year-old is set to play Lexi, "a beautiful, sharp-tongued cheerleader and the most popular girl at Bayside High who is both admired and feared by her fellow students," according to the outlet.

Original Saved by the Bell stars Mario Lopez, and Elizabeth Berkley have already been confirmed to return as A.C. Slater and Jessie Spano, respectively.

The new series focuses on what happens when California Governor, Zack Morris finds himself in trouble for closing too many low-income schools.

To mitigate the concerns, he proposes that the affected students be sent to the highest-performing schools in the state -- including Bayside High -- the school from the original series.

Exclusive: The rest of the cast of the forthcoming Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is starting to take shape as we have learned that Desmond Chiam and Miki Ishikawa (The Terror: Infamy) will join Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan in the project which will expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe beyond the big screen. Disney declined to comment about the castings.

Mackie and Stan will reprise their roles as the titular Falcon (aka Sam Wilson) and The Winter Soldier (aka Bucky Barnes) in the series which Deadline exclusively reported will be directed by Kari Skogland. True to Marvel and Disney form, details about the specific details about the story as well as Chiam and Ishikawa’s roles have been kept under lock and key. We’ll just have to wait when the show debuts on Disney+ on August 2020 to find out.

I hear that Bow and Arrow Entertainment, who were behind such Sundance premieres as Native Son and The Little Hours, has acquired the graphic novel for the duo.

Bottomless Belly Button follows the dysfunctional adventures of the Loony Family. After 40-some years of marriage, Maggie and David Loony shock their children with their announcement of a planned divorce. This sparks their now adult offspring Dennis, Claire and Peter to come together for a week long Loony family reunion at Maggie and David’s creepy –and possibly haunted– beach house.

Exclusive: We hear that Adam Devine is in early talks to get back in business with Netflix in the action comedy feature The Outlaws after portraying Sam I Am in the streamer’s Green Eggs and Ham series.

The pitch, which is described as being in the spirit of Meet the Parents, was made by Ben Zazove and Evan Turner. A script deal is in place currently. A director will become attached down the road.

Devine stars in HBO’s Danny McBride holy roller comedy series The Righteous Gemstones as Kelvin Gemstone. He’ll next star in the Disney+ feature Magic Camp. Josie Totah has joined the cast of “Good People,” the Amazon comedy pilot from Lee Daniels and Whitney Cummings.

Adding to a cast that also includes Greg Kinnear and Martin Short, Totah will star opposite Cummings and Lisa Kudrow as Tallulah, who is described as “a confident, perhaps ‘overly woke’ Generation Z student liaison in the ombudsman’s office. If she wasn’t so smart, you’d think she was entitled because she has no problem challenging the older women she works for and educating them when it comes to social injustice.”

Per Amazon, the half-hour comedy follows three generations of women working in the Ombudsman’s office of a college and navigating “the current cultural climate, the concept of feminism across different generations, and the struggle to reconcile socially constructed ideas with current ethical views regarding complex issues such as sex, race, class and gender.”...

In the 1993 comedy, two lifelong neighbors (Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau) who’ve been feuding since childhood find their dislike for each other exacerbated by the presence of a new neighbor who leaves each of them smitten. Ann-Margret played the neighbor, and Donald Petrie directed it.

The scribes are attached to write and direct a remake of Rookie of the Year at Fox. They most recently wrote and directed the indie Most Likely to Murder, which starred Adam Pally and Rachel Bloom and was released by Lionsgate after premiering at SXSW. Gregor and Mand were consulting producers and directors on Crazy Ex Girlfriend and also staffed on The Comedians and How I Met Your Mother.

Exclusive: Mistresses and Criminal Minds actress Rochelle Aytes and Brian White, who recurred on Mistresses, will topline Miss Havisham Effect (working title), an indie film which they’ll also produce along with Zero Gravity Management’s Ryan Daly. Leila Djansi (Where Children Play) is directing the film based on a screenplay by Lawren Henderson.

The pic is loosely based on Aytes’ life and deals with the long-term damage caused by a drug addict father and the toll it takes on a family.

After an international search, Desmond Chiam (The Shannara Chronicles) has been tapped as one of the male leads opposite Poppy Montgomery in Reef Break, ABC’s 13-episode summer crime drama. Montgomery also executive produces the series, which is based on her idea, along with Ken Sanzel, who will write as well as serve as showrunner.

Reef Break originated at ABC Studios International and was ordered to series by France’s M6 in May. ABC picked it up for a summer run in August, with U.S.-based ABC Studios coming on board to-produce alongside ABC Studios International in partnership with M6.
