Washington Irving‘s 1820 short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” heralded an enduring Halloween icon with the Headless Horseman, an unforgettable, imposing character that practically begged to be translated into a visual medium. While Disney’s classic feature The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad wasn’t the first to adapt Irving’s short, the more family-friendly approach and distinct Halloween setting to The Legend of Sleepy Hollow segment ensures that it’s a holiday staple that still holds up well 75 years later.
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad was released in theaters on October 5, 1949, but the road getting there was tough and winding thanks to World War II. The film pairs two unlikely tales together: The Wind in the Willows and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Both were intended as separate feature-length animated films, but the company was dealing with financial strife at the time and was forced to pivot.

I could listen to Grim Grinning Ghosts any time of the year, much to the chagrin of my family. So, I was more than excited to see that this year’s premium Halloween decore at Lowe’s included an animated singing Headless Knight!
The Knight, also known as Giovanni Jones, Galahad, or Fred (depending on which lore you read), stands 6′ tall and features details quite accurate to the audio-animatronic we see in The Haunted Mansion. Even his cape is present.
Sadly, the Singing Ghost is for indoor use only. Do you have room to recreate the famous graveyard scene in your house?
“Kick up the fright factor with the life-size Haunted Mansion Knight animated figure! This Halloween animatronic delivers the ultimate spooky experience for your guests and visitors. Perfect for Disney’s The Haunted Mansion fans, our animated Knight is dressed in his signature style and holds his talking head in his hand.

In Scott Schirmer’s film Found, a boy wants to know why his older brother kills people. Marty (Gavin Brown) originally believed horror movies, something he and Steve (Ethan Philbeck) both loved, was the cause. Over time, however, the root of Steve’s evil proves to be more nebulous. There are other important factors when understanding why this young man became a serial killer and why his little brother kept his secret for so long.
Found was a dream come true for Schirmer, who sought out author Todd Rigney after falling in love with his 2004 novel. “There was just this feeling of dread that hung over the entire story,” Schirmer said. And with Rigney as his co-writer, the pair then wrote a rather faithful adaptation of the source material. Like the novel, the film begins with Marty discovering a severed head inside his brother’s bowling bag. Oddly, though, Marty...

Disney has adapted its theme park attractions into movies several times, and with varying degrees of success. Everyone remembers "Pirates of the Caribbean," but the "Country Bears" movie from 2002 left a significantly smaller cultural footprint. Same with "The Haunted Mansion," the Eddie Murphy comedy from 2003. Now Disney is coming back for a second bite at the apple with the slightly differently titled "Haunted Mansion," written by Katie Dippold ("Parks and Recreation") and directed by Justin Simien ("Dear White People"), in an attempt to capitalize on the familiarity of the brand while capturing what makes that attraction so special.
But what exactly does make that Disney staple so special? If you polled theme park fans, none of them would blink if you called it the greatest theme park ride of all time. And if you asked Disney Imagineers -- the folks who actually design and build Disney theme park attractions -- why it's so special,...

If they really came to our planet one day, what would they do? Attack? Mingle? Body-snatch? Do a sight-seeing tour, or apply for their residence permits and settle down? To put in other words: what would we do, if they were already here but largely ignoring us? In Jude Chun’s offbeat sci-fi comedy/ drama with musical elements “Unidentified”, the aliens are seemingly doing just that. They have been parked in the skies since 1993, with no intention to descend. No one knows what they are up to, and if they are up to anything at all.

Its newest offering is a twist on the famous Legend of Sleepy Hollow story that has enthralled and haunted audiences for decades, starring both Persaud siblings as well as Mary Kate Wiles, Joanna Sotomura (Barry), Curt Mega (Glee), Krystina Arielle (Star Wars: ...

Scream Queen turned director Jessica Cameron has shared the first bit of footage from her sophomore directorial vehicle Mania, which tells the story of two lesbian lovers who flee their home and travel cross country after a brutal murder. The movie stars Ellie Church (Time to Kill, Headless) in the lead role of Mel, with Tristan Risk (American Mary) co-starring as her crazed lesbian lover.
Scheduled to start the festival circuit later this year, Mania was one of three features that were filmed simultaneously while traveling across the United States in an Rv. Desolation was the other narrative feature, which is a modern hitch hiker tale in which Cameron stars along side Carlo Mendez (The Bay, The Second Coming of Christ). Kill the Pa will be the feature length documentary that chronicles the making of both movies, giving the fans an eye opening, honest look into how indie films are made.
Scheduled to start the festival circuit later this year, Mania was one of three features that were filmed simultaneously while traveling across the United States in an Rv. Back in 2013 I reviewed Found, directed by Scott Schirmer, after catching it at the 2013 Shriekfest film festival. Found, a dark, smart psychological horror film set in the 1980's, was by far my favorite film at the festival that year, and is truly one of my favorite horror films from this century. One of the highlights of Found was a film within the film called Headless. Headless, as featured in Found, is an unbelievably gory slasher from 1978 that inspires the real life murders in the film. Shortly after Found became the indie hit it deserved to be, Arthur Cullipher, the special effects director and a producer on Found, announced that he was following up the film with a feature length version of Headless.
Headless, the feature film version starring Shane Beasley, Kelsey Carlisle, Ellie Church and Dave Parker, is kind of a strange vehicle to follow up Found with.
