As a lover of quirky comedies, I was looking forward to "The hunt for Berlusconi", assembling a bunch of Norwegian comedians, and they all do their very best to lift the film.
This is the second obscure sports feature film by Ole Endresen, which also have had great success with the TV-series Lilyhammer. King Curling was hilarious with it's take on the Curling sport. I imagined this would do the same for this sport. I'm afraid to say it doesn't.
We meet up with a washed out jockey, which are in the bad hands of loan sharks which have bought his nymphomaniac wife's debt. He tries to do the wrong things, to get the money, and is involved with one bad guy after another, all concerning the prize winning horse Berlusconi. Obviously is the Berlusconi name not chosen without any nod to a certain Italian president. But that's another problem. The film isn't able to follow up all the good starts and intentions.
Everything seems on place. Also characters, but I'm afraid the script doesn't hold up. The funniest parts of the movie is in small supporting roles. Especially the Finnish couple of loan sharks are great. But the film is simply not funny enough.
Music score is great. Filming is OK, though cheap effects, and the great persona gallery deserved a better script. Maybe 5 out of 10 is a too good mark on this film, but at least there's plenty of great intentions as well as actors.
Shows how important the script is. If you don't have a good enough script, don't make the movie!
