Yo Mama is a series of short online jokes from directors and writers Zack James and Alex Negrete. They also provide the voices along with Brock Baker, Foxy Lee, Taras Kulakov.

They are viewable on YouTube and have been going since 2011 where they have built up over 1 million subscribers.

As with the case with YouTube, its gives aspiring artists their own outlet to show off their creative skills and allows them to bring their work direct to the public when traditional television channels are not available.

The animation is the of the flash kind, the animated sketches are less than a minute long. They tend to consist of: Yo Mama is so stupid, so ugly, so old, so fat, so hairy and similar variations.

As an example one sketch is: Yo Mama is so stupid she stared at a carton of Orange Juice because it said concentrate!

You can watch compilation videos as they have amassed rather a lot now in the last four years and if one is not funny there will be another sketch along in a minute that will be funnier. They do vary in quality and you will find other characters from other shows and the real world turn up. One Direction, Hello Kitty, Bob the Builder, Daffy Duck, 50 Cents.

I reckon older kids and adolescents are more likely to find the cartoon sketches enjoyable. I could sort of guess a few of the punchlines as I have heard the jokes before. In that sense the creators should be applauded for their green credentials as they recycle old jokes.
