The writer, Sylvester K. Folks, loosely adapted the title and film premise from his written and produced stageplay barring the same title, The Lovely Patient.
The film is dedicated to Sylvester K. Folks grandmother, who is a two time cancer survivor.
Producer Rico Davis son appears in the film as the schoolboy asking Leonard about ghost.
Principal photography was done in Montgomery, Millbrook, and Deatsville, Al. The b-roll shots of Leonard and Frank traveling to Georgia were filmed in Columbus, Georgia.
Entire film was shot on a Canon 600d.
