Rap icon Eminem has received a Brit Billion Award from the BPI, marking seven billion U.K. streams as calculated by the Official Charts Company. The artist holds a U.K. record for most consecutive No. 1s on the Official Albums Chart, with 10 studio albums topping the list in succession.

Recently, Eminem scored his 11th U.K. No. 1 single with “Houdini” and his 11th No.1 album with “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).” Over 60 of his songs have been Brit Certified, with 15 certified multi-platinum. His top three streamed hits have accumulated over 770 million U.K. streams.

The Brit Billion award, launched in 2023, has recognized 39 artists for surpassing one billion U.K. career streams, including diverse acts like Green Day, The Rolling Stones and Billie Eilish.

This award reflects streaming’s impact on the music industry, with over 85% of U.K.’s recorded music consumption now occurring through streaming.

Sally Phillips, the British actor known for her role in all three Bridget Jones movies, will head the cast of Australian comedy drama film “How to Please a Woman.”

Pitched as a warmhearted look at sexuality and vulnerability at all stages of life, the film casts Phillips as a 50-something woman who has the inspired idea of launching an all-male house-cleaning service. But she must ask herself questions when the business grows out of control.

Production starts next week in Perth, West Australia, under the direction of Renee Webster, whose previous directing credits include Australian Broadcasting Corporation series “The Heights” and “Itch.” Webster also penned the screenplay.

The completed film will be released in Australia and New Zealand by Madman Entertainment. International sales are handled by Germany’s Beta Cinema.

Years of perseverance in developing feature films and TV series with multiple collaborators are paying off for producer Tania Chambers.

The MD of Feisty Dame Productions is in the midst of financing How to Please a Woman and casting the co-lead of Time to Tango, a feature inspired by Miranda Edmonds and Khrob Edmonds’ short film Tango Underpants.

In addition, she is holding a writers’ room on a TV drama with such talent as Renée Webster, Miley Tunnecliffe and Kelly Lefever.

Webster is writing and will direct How to Please a Woman, a comedy-drama about a mature woman who must embrace her sexuality when her all-male house-cleaning business gets out of control.

Supported in development since 2016 by Screen Australia and Screenwest, the film has an Australian distributor and sales agent attached and the plan is to start shooting in Perth in March with funding from Screenwest’s West Coast Visions.

Taryne ‘Pinky’ Laffar has officially launched her own production company, Pink Pepper, boasting a diverse slate that includes a full docuseries based on Our Law, a comedy web series created by Clarence Ryan, feature film Red, and a six-part TV drama.

A descendant of the Bardi and Jabbir Jabbir nations, Laffar – who has worked variously as a writer, director, producer and in casting – has started the new venture with the aims of working with Indigenous and diverse creatives across documentary and drama.

Pink Pepper will also specialise in casting Indigenous and diverse talent, with Laffar also available as a freelance producer, writer, director, mentor and workshop facilitator.

The company’s debut project is documentary Our Law, following Australia’s first and only Indigenous-run police station, which recently screened in Sydney Film Festival and airs tonight on Nitv as part of Karla Grant Presents.

Screen Australia has announced the 18 members of the new iteration of the Gender Matters Taskforce, which provides independent advice to the agency, and works beyond Screen Australia’s direct sphere of influence to deliver outcomes for female creatives and assist in broader industry efforts to achieve gender parity.

Formed in 2016 and updated in 2018, the Gender Matters Taskforce is a volunteer-based advisory body made up of women working across the Australian screen sector. Returning members include taskforce chair Joanna Werner; deputy chair Deanne Weir and Lisa French.

Werner said: “These 18 brilliant women represent a cross section of the screen sector and come from varying backgrounds with a range of expertise locally and internationally. This taskforce will be integral in helping to shape Screen Australia’s next steps as well as promoting the broader industry systemic change that is needed.”

Young adult, action-adventure TV series “Itch” has begun shooting in Western Australia through indie film and TV producer Komixx Entertainment. The show, to be delivered next year, will be broadcast in Australia by ABC Me, part of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and distributed worldwide by ABC Commercial.

The 10-part series is a TV adaptation of former BBC 2 Radio broadcaster Simon Mayo’s best-selling teen novel of the same name, after Komixx acquired the rights in 2013. “Itch” tells the tale of a science obsessed teenager who discovers a new chemical element with extraordinary powers and is forced to go on the run to protect it from a sinister organization which wants it for its own ends.

'Lion' leads this year's Aussie films, and now ranks as the fifth highest grossing Australian film of all time..

The Australian films released theatrically so far this year have grossed $42.6 million.—.nearly double the meagre 2016 calendar year total of $24.1 million.

The resurgence for Australian cinema has been led by Garth Davis. Lion (Transmission), the stand-out with $29.5 million.

Launched on Boxing Day 2016, Kriv Stenders. Red Dog :True Blue has earned $5.8 million this year, not a terrible result for Roadshow Films but below industry expectations.

Rachel Perkins. Jasper Jones (Madman) brought in $2.66 million and Jeffrey Walker.s Dance Academy: The Movie (StudioCanal) made $2.1 million.

None of the other 37 films tracked by the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia (which includes holdovers from previous years) has cracked $1 million.

Power Rangers is now just a couple of months away, and while we really should have had another new trailer by now, it appears as if most of what we're getting for the reboot is related to merchandise!  After a first look at the Putty Patrol and some very retro flip head action figures, we now have a first look at the cool Funko Pops for the main Power Rangers team and even the villainous Rita Replusa.  It now remains to be seen whether or not the Zords or other characters will get the Pop treatment. Fans of the franchise are still anxiously waiting for the next Power Rangers trailer, especially as it will no doubt offer up a look at the Zords and some of the reboot's fully CG characters. To call the concept art of Bill Hader's Alpha-5 horrifying would be an understatement, and while we've yet to see what Zordon looks like, another new image of Power Rangers' Rita Repulsa has found its way online today. One of the biggest controversies surrounding the Power Rangers reboot involves the costumes which will be worn by the heroes. In both the official images and trailer, they really don't look that great, but some practical versions (spotted by Instagram user Michael Angeloming) put on display are actually much better than what we've seen in the past. Sony's The Shallows was shot in Queensland, and a large chunk of the effects work was completed by Perth production house Boogie Monster, who created over 130 graphically-driven visual effects shots for the film, in which Blake Lively is terrorised by an angry shark.

Boogie Monster's portfolio of shots was created under the eye of visual effects supervisor Nathan McGuinness. The company edged out a number of international effects houses to get the chance to create the opening and closing main title sequences of the film.

A Few Less Men, the sequel to Stephan Elliott's 2011 comedy A Few Best Men, was helmed by Mark Lamprell, the screenwriter of Babe: Pig in the City and director of 2000's My Mother Frank and 2013's Goddess.

Lamprell came on board after reading the script by Dean Craig (Death at a Funeral), who wrote the original film.

"It was lovely working on somebody else's screenplay because it was a really solid screenplay structurally," Lamprell said. "I could see that there was a really good movie in there. Dean's a very accomplished writer. The whole guts of it were laid out before me.".

Lamprell, who got his start at Kennedy Miller making Bts documentaries such as The Making of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985), describes A Few Less Men as "a silly comedy.".

Lionsgate has some big plans for their Power Rangers film franchise. The first film in the franchise relaunch isn't set to be released until next year, but the studio is very excited about its potential. During a recent conference call with analysts, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer revealed that they may make up to seven Power Rangers movies. This is his exact quote:

“We are really, really excited about the ‘Power Rangers’ movie. We could see doing five or six or seven.”

Everything that has been released for the film so far has been met with a lot of positivty from fans. A couple of the main things that have been revealed include the first photo of Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa and our first look at the Power Rangers costume designs. The studio knows fans are digging it, and they obviously think they have a huge franchise hit on their hands.

For those of you who have been wondering what the new Power Rangers costumes would look like in the upcoming movie, here you go! This image was released by Entertainment Weekly, and it looks like something Tony Stark would have come up with. Talking about the costume designs, production designer Andrew Menzies says:

"It’s tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume. Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made. You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.”

I never expected the costumes in this film to be spandex. I think we all knew they were going to get some kind of heavy armor-type upgrade like this, so I'm not really surprised. The suits look fine, and it will be cool to actually see them in action.

His second novel, A Lovers' Guide to Rome, has just been published by Allen and Unwin. As if that wasn't enough, his next film, A Few Less Men, will be released later in the year..

Lamprell got his start at Kennedy Miller, making documentaries about the making of, among other projects, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

Lamprell sat down to write A Lovers' Guide to Rome while waiting for his last feature, 2013's movie-musical Goddess, to be released.

"I was in Bristol visiting my son", Lamprell said, "and I had time on my hands and I thought I should write another screenplay".

After being spotted on set recently, The Hollywood Reporter has now confirmed that David Denman (The Office) has indeed joined the cast of Lionsgate's upcoming Power Rangers reboot as Sam Scott, the father of Jason Lee Scott, the Red Ranger. All the kids from the 90’s can rejoice as the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers are on the way to the big screen, and with production having begun on Dean Isrealite’s (Project Almanac) Power Rangers in Vancouver, Entertainment Weekly has released the first cast photo, bringing our new heroes together for the first time. I’m not getting excited about this just yet, but as long as the film manages to keep the spirit of the original series, then I think fans will be happy with whatever is thrown at them. I really hope that they actually develop an unexpectedly kick ass Power Rangers movie.

Hollywood certainly does a great job of banking of our nostalgia. From comic book movies to reboots of beloved film franchises, they certainly know how to tap into our emotional core as human beings, like it or not. The next group to get catered to will be the many generations of Power Rangers fans, a long-running TV series that's been on the small screen since the early 1990s.

Sure, there have been a few movies in the series' long run, but none of them set the world on fire. The first film--which featured Ivan Ooze as the main villain--while a solid attempt to adapt something to the big screen, failed to succeed on many levels, and after that one, the movies only went downhill from there. Investment from Screen Australia means filming is set to go ahead on A Few Less Men, the sequel to 2011 ensemble comedy A Few Best Men.

At the same board meeting, the government agency also backed Kimble Rendall’s The Nest, a China-Australia co-production to be primarily made in Australia.

Arclight Films International will represent both films.

A Few Less Men will see Xavier Samuel, Kris Marshall and Kevin Bishop return to their roles as hapless friends, who become stranded in the Australian bush with a friend’s body after their plane makes a forced landing.

It is understood that Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect), who played Daphne in the first film, will not reprise her role.

A Few Best Men screenwriter Dean Craig (Death At A Funeral) will return to pen the sequel, although he will not direct as previously reported.

Kimble Rendall.s 3D action adventure The Nest, a sequel to A Few Best Men and a TV drama starring Rebecca Gibney are being co-funded by Screen Australia.

The agency is investing $3.19 million in the three projects, a remarkable economic multiplier as the combined budgets are $38.4 million.

An official Australian/Chinese co-production, The Nest tells of the discovery of a well-preserved mummified Emperor from 200 BC China, which unleashes a 2,000 year-old nightmare.

Arclight Films, which produced Rendall.s Chinese hit Bait 3D, is producing through Gary Hamilton, Ying Ye and Mark Lazarus with a Chinese partner yet to be identified.

Shooting in Australia and China is due to start in the fourth quarter with an international cast. Tait Brady.s Label is the Australian distributor.
