This post contains major spoilers for "Heart Eyes."
One part rom-com, one part slasher movie, all bloody good fun, "Heart Eyes" is in many ways the perfect Valentine's Day entertainment. It's got a masked killer themed around the holiday, a genuinely fun "will they, won't they" romance at the center of it between Olivia Holt's Ally and Mason Gooding's Jay, and it plays expertly with two well-trodden genres. Credit to director Josh Ruben, who previously helmed the acclaimed video game movie "Werewolves Within," and screenwriters Phillip Murphy, Christopher Landon ("Happy Death Day"), and Michael Kennedy ("Freaky").
/Film's Chris Evangelista called "Heart Eyes" a "stylish and sweet" ride in his review, and the fun doesn't stop when the credits roll either, as the flick included a pretty fun post-credits scene that plays with a very common slasher movie trope. The film centers on a serial killer who has been...

Following his performance as Trapper in last year’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Dan Stevens is in talks to return to the Monsterverse.
Deadline confirms the actor is in negotiations with Legendary Pictures to reprise his role alongside recently announced star Kaitlyn Dever in the next theatrical film in the Monsterverse franchise, which will be directed by Grant Sputore from a script by Dave Callaham.
In The New Empire, Trapper Beasley is a veterinarian that works for the scientific organization Monarch, with Stevens’ performance making him a new fan-favorite in the franchise.
The upcoming movie is described as a continuation of the franchise centering Godzilla, Kong and an assortment of other Titans. Insiders say that while Kong and Godzilla will still be fronting the film, Legendary is looking to build on its human characters and the first logical choice landed on Dever, whose star has been on the rise for some time.

A decade ago, Legendary Pictures secured the rights to Godzilla and other characters owned and created by the Japanese company Toho so they could launch a cinematic universe they call the MonsterVerse – and they also secured the rights to the King Kong character so he could be part of their MonsterVerse as well. Things got started with Godzilla in 2014, and since then the universe has expanded with Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, the animated series Skull Island, the live-action series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. A third Godzilla / Kong mash-up is now in the works – and Deadline has learned that the iconic monsters are being joined in the cast by Kaitlyn Dever this time around.
Dever’s credits include Good Grief, No One Will Save You, Next Goal Wins, Rosaline, Dear Evan Hanson, Last Man Standing, Booksmart, Justified,...

Ishiro Honda's original "Gojira" was released in Japan in 1954, and helped popularize a genre of giant monster movies that remained ascendant for seven decades. Godzilla movies are still being made to this day, with Toho's most recent film, "Godzilla Minus One" coming out in 2023, and Legendary's "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" hitting in 2024. Godzilla has been part of the cinematic landscape for so long, his popularity has risen and fallen and risen again. There have been multiple "finales" in the Godzilla series, and just as many reboots. He's more pliable and more prone to restarts than James Bond.
From 1954 until 1975, Godzilla more or less followed a single continuity, and the 15 films released during this period are said to be of the Showa era. From 1975 to 1983, there would be no theatrical Godzilla movies, with the series rebooting in...

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla provides a reminder that King Caesar is one of the most important kaiju still missing from Legendary's Monsterverse. Remembered for his unique, martial arts-inspired fighting style and dog-like appearance, King Caesar is counted among the many monsters to act as allies of Godzilla. The creature shared a memorable team-up with the King of the Monsters when the two worked together to oppose Mechagodzilla. Both King Caesar and Godzilla's robotic counterpart debuted together in 1974's Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla.
King Caesar served as co-protagonist to Godzilla in the film. But unfortunately, to this day, it remains the monster's most significant contribution to Godzilla lore. King Caesar's only other appearance in a Godzilla movie didn't come until Godzilla: Final Wars in 2004, and even that was little more than a cameo. This has kept King Caesar from becoming a major figure in the franchise, but in spite of his overall absence from Godzilla's stories,...

Although Mothra isn't exactly renowned for her power level, her fights in the Godzilla franchise have yielded her an impressive accomplishment. Over the years, Mothra has clashed with an interesting assortment of kaiju associated with Godzilla. In addition to the King of the Monsters himself, Mothra has also done battle with two of Godzilla's kaiju villains in Toho's movies, King Ghidorah and Gigan. And thanks to the Monsterverse, she's even had a fight with Rodan, the monster considered by many to be Godzilla's greatest ally.
With those monsters - plus Godzilla - as opponents, it's no surprise that Mothra has died as many times as she has. Mothra has met her end in multiple movies, including her Monsterverse debut in Godzilla: King of the Monsters and her first film with Godzilla, Mothra vs. Godzilla. However, that's not to see that she hasn't fared well in monster fights.

70 years of Godzilla films make for a truly titanic number of kaiju that appear across the franchise. Some of those monsters are friends of humanity, some are foes, and some go back and forth, but most importantly, they all fight. Kaiju battles are some of the most spectacular parts of these films, and that's true whether you're a fan of the modern CGI-based Monsterverse films or the classic tokusatsu films of the Showa and Heisei eras (especially with their sillier Godzilla stories).
Of course, Godzilla has the best fight record of any kaiju, but plenty of other monsters have had some impressive wins over the years. On the other hand, there are a few always-losers: the floppy-eared Baragon, overgrown shrimp Ebirah, the bug-like Megalon, Godzilla: Final Wars' menacing Monster X, and the plant-kaiju hybrid Biollante all failed to eke out even a single on-screen victory. As we wait for more...

Writer/director Michael Dougherty rose up through the Hollywood ranks authoring the scripts for multiple major blockbusters. He co-wrote the screenplay to "X2: X-Men United" and "Superman Returns" (both of which were directed by the now-disgraced Bryan Singer), and proved his horror chops with "Urban Legends: Bloody Mary," a straight-to-video threequel to the oh-yeah-i-remember-that slasher franchise from the late 1990s. Dougherty's directorial debut, the horror anthology "Trick 'r Treat," saw a slow release in 2007, but became a Halloween standard almost immediately thereafter. The man knows how to terrify audiences. His most recent film was the big-budget monster movie "Godzilla: King of the Monsters," the third film in the U.S. MonsterVerse series.
Dougherty's best film, however, came in 2015 when he made "Krampus," a Christmas horror film that's just as much a holiday standard as "Trick 'r Treat," only for Christmas. It features one of the coolest, scariest monsters of...

The King of the Monsters takes on Marvel’s greatest heroes across various different eras in Godzilla vs. Marvel, an epic crossover event announced by Marvel Comics this afternoon.
Marvel previews, “The King of the Monsters will make its royal return to Marvel Comics in 2025, with plans to stomp across the paths of its most celebrated superheroes and villains.”
Godzilla vs. Marvel is coming along 40+ years after the original Godzilla comic series from Marvel back in 1977, which came courtesy of writer Doug Moench and artist Herb Trimpe. Marvel Comics is promising the event will spawn “at least six all-new original one-shot stories.”
To celebrate the news, Marvel has released a pretty epic piece of promo art by Leinil Francis Yu and Romulo Fajardo Jr., which sees members of the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four face off against Toho’s most iconic kaiju. You can check out that promo art in full below.

It's true that plenty of sci-fi movies are more plot-heavy than character-driven, but that doesn't mean that the best additions to the genre don't include complex and well-developed characters. However, in most movies, not just speculative fiction, there are sometimes scenes that fit in well with the plot but end up undermining the arc of an otherwise well-written character. Though this doesn't take away the other moments that exemplify the character's nuanced and complex emotions and motivation, it does give the viewer pause and make them wonder why these scenes are included.
Occasionally, these characters' moments give great sci-fi movies disappointing endings since what happens to the characters is typically the most emotionally compelling piece of a story. Many of these characters are portrayed by brilliant actors who balance the contradictions within their roles and make them work within the narrative. Whether these scenes are throwaway moments meant to be...

Big things are coming for Idw's Godzilla franchise, and that includes a kaiju-sized change for the King of the Monsters' ally, Mothra. The gentle, but powerful monster has been a fan-favorite for years, but with a brand-new solo series on the horizon, her mythology is expanding considerably.
Earlier this year, Idw Publishing rocked fans everywhere with its Godzilla-focused announcements. The first season of Legendary’s MonsterVerse TV series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters ran on Apple TV+ from November into January (you can read our own Alex Maidy’s review of the first batch of episodes Here), and while Godzilla was an important figure in that season, it wrapped up with an episode that indicated Kong might be taking the spotlight if there were to be a follow-up. In April, it was confirmed that Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 was a sure thing – and earlier this month, the new season officially began filming. The first season’s star Anna Sawai is back for season 2, and in an interview with TV Line she said she hopes her character will be less of a victim this time around.

For fifty-nine episodes, Sophie Turner played the role of Sansa Stark on the hit series Game of Thrones. For sixty-two episodes, Kit Harington played the role of Jon Snow on that same show. And now Turner and Harington are working together, as they both star in the Gothic horror film The Dreadful, which is currently filming in England. Deadline reports that the reunited Game of Thrones stars are joined in the cast by Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden, who won the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in the 2000 film Pollock.
The Dreadful is coming our way from writer/director Natasha Kermani, who has previously directed the thriller Shattered, the sci-fi drama Imitation Girl, and the horror film Lucky, as well as multiple short films and a segment of the horror anthology V/H/S/85. MonsterVerse is one of the most interesting cinematic universes out of all of them. The Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures-owned franchise has earned over $2.5 billion worldwide and also consists of TV shows on different streaming services but the way it all came together is a bit iffy because of the rights issues and the general laziness that we see in the some of the MonsterVerse films, but still Godzilla vs. Kong is still one of the most iconic movies for me. The Japanese giant monster Godzilla recently celebrated its 70th Anniversary with the first film, Gojira aka Godzilla: King of the Monsters, releasing on November 3rd, 1954. The character has starred in nearly 40 films and has become a pop culture icon appearing on television, comics, video games and more.
Last year’s Japanese produced film Godzilla Minus One became one of the most successful in the franchise, even winning an Academy Award for best visual effects on a mere $15 Million budget. Since then the film’s director Takashi Yamazaki has confirmed that he will be returning to the franchise with another movie, but has not clarified if it will be a direct sequel to Minus One.
However, that isn’t all that Takashi Yamazaki has been up to.
It appears that the director has had talks with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. He stated that he spoke with Feige and seemed to...

The upcoming Green Lantern show, titled Lanterns, has already begun assembling a strong cast, raising anticipation for the Dcu installment. Everything that is known about Lanterns has come from the mouth of James Gunn himself as the filmmaker continues building the foundations of what will hopefully be DC's cinematic resurgence. Lanterns falls under the many movies and shows in the Dcu's Chapter One, titled "Gods and Monsters," and will be the first proper integration of the titular Green Lanterns into the universe after a brief tease in 2025's Superman.
When the show releases, the Dcu will have three Green Lanterns. As alluded to, the first will be Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner, making his Dcu debut in Superman. The other two heroes will be first introduced in Lanterns, with Gunn recently announcing the actors set to play the famous DC Green Lanterns of John Stewart and Hal Jordan. A forgotten tease from five years ago laid the groundwork for another version of King Ghidorah to appear in the Monsterverse. In Godzilla: KIng of the Monsters, Legendary's Monsterverse introduced its take on King Ghidorah as an ancient rival to Godzilla. Not unlike the way its Toho counterpart is traditionally depicted, this incarnation of Monster Zero is a creature from a distant planet. As the only known alien Titan in the Monsterverse, Ghidorah has a certain uniqueness to him, but interestingly, there have been indications that perhaps Ghidorah isn't the outlier he originally seemed to be.
The idea of Ghidorah not being alone goes beyond the notion that the creature may have shared the Earth with other alien Titans. In fact, there could be other creatures of the same species out there in the Monsterverse somewhere. The Monsterverse movies themselves haven't directly confirmed this as a fact, but the novelization...

Six years after the first movie, Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera unites a drastically different cast. The first film follows elite detectives trying to stop a crew of ex-Marine thieves from robbing the Federal Reserves. As for the sequel, it takes the story to Europe, while promising higher stakes in the process.
Following Den of Thieves' ending, both of the first movie's co-leads are back to reprise their roles. But while OShea Jackson Jr. and Gerard Butler are returning, their dynamic won't be the same, as the sequel will put a twist on the cat-and-mouse trope by teaming them up. Almost everyone in Hollywood has participated, or at least been reported to be participating, in a superhero property. It's simply the latest big trend that employs everyone in a union (unless you're a VFX worker), just like crime procedurals employed every actor who later broke big once upon a time. Whether a celebrated and legendary actor like Harrison Ford, or an indie director like Ryan Coogler, no one is safe from the superhero movie industrial complex.
The latest beloved actor to join a superhero franchise is Kyle Chandler, the greatest dad actor, who has been tapped to star as Hal Jordan in the Green Lantern TV series that is part of James Gunn's fledgling DC universe. Accepting the responsibility of the Power Ring and fight for the Green Lantern Corps, Chandler reportedly beat rumored contenders for the role like Josh Brolin. The Green Lantern TV show is set to...

HBO’s DC series Lanterns has found its Hal Jordan.
Emmy winner Kyle Chandler is set to play the legendary member of the Green Lantern Corps in the series, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. The show will be the first series role for the Friday Night Lights star since Showtime’s 2022 drama Super Pumped.
Lanterns, which scored a straight-to-series order in June after years of development, comes from Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, Lost) and Eisner Award-winning comics writer Tom King. The trio are co-writing and executive producing the series, with Mundy serving as showrunner.
The show, which falls under the HBO banner, is casting and in the middle of hiring directors. The series is looking to shoot from next January to June in Atlanta.

A Transformers actor joins Rebecca Ferguson and Idris Elba in a new film from Kathryn Bigelow. Bigelow is best known for movies like Point Break (1991), The Hurt Locker (2008), and Zero Dark Thirty (2012). Her most recent film is Detroit (2017), which chronicled the civil unrest in Detroit in 1967. Now, she's partnered with Netflix for a new thriller, penned by Noah Oppenheim, which is reported to take place in the White House as ballistic miles head for America.
Deadline now reports that Anthony Ramos, who recently appeared in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023) and Twisters (2024) has joined Bigelow's upcoming Netflix thriller. No details have been released about Ramos' role, but the report does reinforce earlier claims that the film will take place at the White House in the midst of a national crisis. Ferguson and Elba are confirmed to appear in the movie as well, but it's not yet clear who they will be playing.

After six years, the first official trailer for Den of Thieves 2: Pantera has arrived, giving us our first look at the upcoming heist thriller starring Gerard Butler and O'Shea Jackson Jr., although it looks like there will be a slight twist to their dynamic this time as, instead of trying to one up one another, they'll be teaming up to pull off the diamond heist of a lifetime.
However, the synopsis is not quite as revealing, telling us that "Big Nick (Butler) is back on the hunt in Europe and closing in on Donnie (Jackson), who is embroiled in the treacherous and unpredictable world of diamond thieves and the infamous Panther mafia, as they plot a massive heist of the world’s largest diamond exchange."
In addition to Gerard Butler (300; Olympus Has Fallen) and O'Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton; Godzilla: King of the Monsters) reprising their roles from the previous installment,...

Godzilla and Kong have already gone head-to-head multiple times in Legendary's Monsterverse, but there are plenty of other incredible head-to-head Titan battles that the connected cinematic universe can explore. The Godzilla franchise, and really all of Toho's movie catalog, is predicated on massive monsters battling each other with an array of energy blasts, fists, and claws. The Monsterverse has followed through with that as a foundational aspect of the connected universe, with one-on-one fights and multi-monster team-ups acting as the high points of each movie.
Godzilla and Kong seem to have buried the axe for now (pun very much intended), but there are a number of Titans on the surface, deep in the Hollow Earth, and beyond who may have a bone to pick with either of the planet's two Alpha Titans. More than a dozen Titans have already been introduced in the Monsterverse, and there are plenty...

Millie Bobby Brown's new movie, The Electric State, has a budget surpassing all of Stranger Things season 4. The Electric State's $320 million budget is comparable to top films like Star Wars, showing a big investment. Despite risks, Netflix is banking on Brown's success and the Russo brothers to make The Electric State a hit.
Millie Bobby Browns new sci-fi movie makes the record-breaking season 4 of Stranger Things look ridiculous. Brown has starred in Netflixs Stranger Things since 2016 as one of the main protagonists, a girl with supernatural powers called Eleven. The American show has been highly praised for its take on the monster horror genre and Stranger Things season 5 is expected to release in 2025. Brown has also starred in other hit Netflix productions recently, including Enola Holmes and Damsel, however, there is one upcoming Netflix movie for Millie Bobby Brown that is expected to be her biggest production yet.
