Legendary Entertainment and Hasbro Entertainment are partnering to create a live-action feature film and television universe based on Hasbro’s massively successful Magic: The Gathering, Hasbro’s first $1 billion brand.

Beauty and the Beast and Legion star Dan Stevens first boarded the Monsterverse in Legendary Pictures' Godzilla vs. Kong sequel, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. 

The British actor played Trapper in the 2024 blockbuster, serving as a dentist and veterinarian to the monsters. He quickly became a firm fan-favourite and now, The Hollywood Reporter (via SFFGazette.com) reveals that Stevens is in talks to reprise this role in Grant Sputore's (I Am Mother) unnamed follow-up to The New Empire. 

Booksmart and The Last of Us star Kaitlyn Dever was the first human addition to the cast. More are expected to follow.

Following his performance as Trapper in last year’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Dan Stevens is in talks to return to the Monsterverse.

Deadline confirms the actor is in negotiations with Legendary Pictures to reprise his role alongside recently announced star Kaitlyn Dever in the next theatrical film in the Monsterverse franchise, which will be directed by Grant Sputore from a script by Dave Callaham.

In The New Empire, Trapper Beasley is a veterinarian that works for the scientific organization Monarch, with Stevens’ performance making him a new fan-favorite in the franchise.

The upcoming movie is described as a continuation of the franchise centering Godzilla, Kong and an assortment of other Titans. Insiders say that while Kong and Godzilla will still be fronting the film, Legendary is looking to build on its human characters and the first logical choice landed on Dever, whose star has been on the rise for some time.

A decade ago, Legendary Pictures secured the rights to Godzilla and other characters owned and created by the Japanese company Toho so they could launch a cinematic universe they call the MonsterVerse – and they also secured the rights to the King Kong character so he could be part of their MonsterVerse as well. Things got started with Godzilla in 2014, and since then the universe has expanded with Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, the animated series Skull Island, the live-action series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. A third Godzilla / Kong mash-up is now in the works – and Deadline has learned that the iconic monsters are being joined in the cast by Kaitlyn Dever this time around.

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla provides a reminder that King Caesar is one of the most important kaiju still missing from Legendary's Monsterverse. Remembered for his unique, martial arts-inspired fighting style and dog-like appearance, King Caesar is counted among the many monsters to act as allies of Godzilla. The creature shared a memorable team-up with the King of the Monsters when the two worked together to oppose Mechagodzilla. Both King Caesar and Godzilla's robotic counterpart debuted together in 1974's Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla.

King Caesar served as co-protagonist to Godzilla in the film. But unfortunately, to this day, it remains the monster's most significant contribution to Godzilla lore. Although Mothra isn't exactly renowned for her power level, her fights in the Godzilla franchise have yielded her an impressive accomplishment. Over the years, Mothra has clashed with an interesting assortment of kaiju associated with Godzilla. In addition to the King of the Monsters himself, Mothra has also done battle with two of Godzilla's kaiju villains in Toho's movies, King Ghidorah and Gigan. And thanks to the Monsterverse, she's even had a fight with Rodan, the monster considered by many to be Godzilla's greatest ally.

With those monsters - plus Godzilla - as opponents, it's no surprise that Mothra has died as many times as she has. Mothra has met her end in multiple movies, including her Monsterverse debut in Godzilla: King of the Monsters and her first film with Godzilla, Mothra vs. Godzilla. However, that's not to see that she hasn't fared well in monster fights.

70 years of Godzilla films make for a truly titanic number of kaiju that appear across the franchise. Some of those monsters are friends of humanity, some are foes, and some go back and forth, but most importantly, they all fight. Kaiju battles are some of the most spectacular parts of these films, and that's true whether you're a fan of the modern CGI-based Monsterverse films or the classic tokusatsu films of the Showa and Heisei eras (especially with their sillier Godzilla stories).

Of course, Godzilla has the best fight record of any kaiju, but plenty of other monsters have had some impressive wins over the years. On the other hand, there are a few always-losers: the floppy-eared Baragon, overgrown shrimp Ebirah, the bug-like Megalon, Godzilla: Final Wars' menacing Monster X, and the plant-kaiju hybrid Biollante all failed to eke out even a single on-screen victory. The King of the Monsters takes on Marvel’s greatest heroes across various different eras in Godzilla vs. Marvel, an epic crossover event announced by Marvel Comics this afternoon.

Marvel previews, “The King of the Monsters will make its royal return to Marvel Comics in 2025, with plans to stomp across the paths of its most celebrated superheroes and villains.”

Godzilla vs. Marvel is coming along 40+ years after the original Godzilla comic series from Marvel back in 1977, which came courtesy of writer Doug Moench and artist Herb Trimpe. Marvel Comics is promising the event will spawn “at least six all-new original one-shot stories.”

To celebrate the news, Marvel has released a pretty epic piece of promo art by Leinil Francis Yu and Romulo Fajardo Jr., which sees members of the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four face off against Toho’s most iconic kaiju. You can check out that promo art in full below.

It's true that plenty of sci-fi movies are more plot-heavy than character-driven, but that doesn't mean that the best additions to the genre don't include complex and well-developed characters. However, in most movies, not just speculative fiction, there are sometimes scenes that fit in well with the plot but end up undermining the arc of an otherwise well-written character. MonsterVerse is one of the most interesting cinematic universes out of all of them. The Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures-owned franchise has earned over $2.5 billion worldwide and also consists of TV shows on different streaming services but the way it all came together is a bit iffy because of the rights issues and the general laziness that we see in the some of the MonsterVerse films, but still Godzilla vs. Kong is still one of the most iconic movies for me. The Japanese giant monster Godzilla recently celebrated its 70th Anniversary with the first film, Gojira aka Godzilla: King of the Monsters, releasing on November 3rd, 1954. The character has starred in nearly 40 films and has become a pop culture icon appearing on television, comics, video games and more.

Last year’s Japanese produced film Godzilla Minus One became one of the most successful in the franchise, even winning an Academy Award for best visual effects on a mere $15 Million budget. Since then the film’s director Takashi Yamazaki has confirmed that he will be returning to the franchise with another movie, but has not clarified if it will be a direct sequel to Minus One.

Everything that is known about Lanterns has come from the mouth of James Gunn himself as the filmmaker continues building the foundations of what will hopefully be DC's cinematic resurgence. Kyle Chandler has boarded HBO’s Lanterns and will star as Hal Jordan. The announcement comes hot on the heels of Aaron Pierre’s casting as John Stewart.

“The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland,” reads HBO’s synopsis.

Lanterns is based on the DC comic Green Lantern, with Chris Mundy, Emmy winner Damon Lindelof (Watchmen), and Eisner Award winner Tom King (Mister Miracle) writing the series. James Hawes is directing episodes one and two. Mundy, Lindelof, King, and Hawes are the executive producers.

According to Variety, the Legion alum has joined the cast of the second season of Apple TV+ MonsterVerse spin-off series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, in a heavily recurring role. Midthunder will play a character named as Isabel, who is described as “an intelligent and powerful businesswoman.”

Season 1 stars Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski are expected to return. Whether we will see Kurt and Wyatt Russell (they played the same character across two different timelines) after the events of the season 1 finale remains to be seen.

HBO announced today that Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler have officially joined the cast of the upcoming DC series Lanterns. Aaron Pierre will play John Stewart and Kyle Chandler has been cast as Hal Jordan.

The anticipated series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

Lanterns is an HBO series in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King will co-write the series based on the DC comic Green Lantern.

James Hawes directs the first two episodes. The series is executive produced by Mundy, Lindelof, King, and Hawes.

Aaron Pierre currently stars as the lead in Jeremy Saulnier’s Rebel Ridge, which debuted on Netflix on September 6th and was the #1 title worldwide on the streaming service for three weeks in a row.

Today, the first bit of major news about the new season has dropped online, as Variety has revealed that Amber Midthunder of the Predator movie Prey has been cast in a heavily recurring role! Polish developer 7Levels has nailed down the Fall release for its new Legendary Entertainment Monsterverse title, with Kong: Survivor Instinct launching October 22 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. The announcement was accompanied by a new teaser, showcasing Tiamat, another formidable Titan to be featured in the game.

Set after the events of Godzilla vs. Kong, Survivor Instinct presents “a visually rich environment with a single-player experience that will immerse players in a narrative that adds a new chapter to the Monsterverse lore.” The story follows David, an oil rig worker who becomes separated from his daughter Stacy after a sudden Titan attack. Utilizing the surrounding technology, players will manipulate the titans’ movements and use their destructive force to their advantage.

During David’s journey, players will face off against both iconic and brand-new titan species, including the awaited and teased Abaddon — created by the 7Levels team in conjunction with Legendary Entertainment.

Six years after the first movie, Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera unites a drastically different cast. The first film follows elite detectives trying to stop a crew of ex-Marine thieves from robbing the Federal Reserves. As for the sequel, it takes the story to Europe, while promising higher stakes in the process.

Following Den of Thieves' ending, both of the first movie's co-leads are back to reprise their roles. But while OShea Jackson Jr. and Gerard Butler are returning, their dynamic won't be the same, as the sequel will put a twist on the cat-and-mouse trope by teaming them up. Another change pertains to the cast; Den of Thieves 2 looks to be surrounding them with an unfamiliar cast of supporting characters.

HBO’s DC series Lanterns has found its Hal Jordan.

Emmy winner Kyle Chandler is set to play the legendary member of the Green Lantern Corps in the series, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. The show will be the first series role for the Friday Night Lights star since Showtime’s 2022 drama Super Pumped.

Lanterns, which scored a straight-to-series order in June after years of development, comes from Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, Lost) and Eisner Award-winning comics writer Tom King. The trio are co-writing and executive producing the series, with Mundy serving as showrunner.

The show, which falls under the HBO banner, is casting and in the middle of hiring directors. The series is looking to shoot from next January to June in Atlanta.

A Transformers actor joins Rebecca Ferguson and Idris Elba in a new film from Kathryn Bigelow. Bigelow is best known for movies like Point Break (1991), The Hurt Locker (2008), and Zero Dark Thirty (2012). Her most recent film is Detroit (2017), which chronicled the civil unrest in Detroit in 1967. Now, she's partnered with Netflix for a new thriller, penned by Noah Oppenheim, which is reported to take place in the White House as ballistic miles head for America.

Deadline now reports that Anthony Ramos, who recently appeared in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023) and Twisters (2024) has joined Bigelow's upcoming Netflix thriller. No details have been released about Ramos' role, but the report does reinforce earlier claims that the film will take place at the White House in the midst of a national crisis. Ferguson and Elba are confirmed to appear in the movie as well, but it's not yet clear who they will be playing.
