U.K.-based Blue Finch Films has acquired worldwide rights to “825 Forest Road,” the latest supernatural horror feature from “Hell House LLC” creator Stephen Cognetti. The deal comes ahead of the film’s festival premiere planned for next year, with Blue Finch set to launch sales at the American Film Market (AFM) next month.
The film marks Cognetti’s departure from his found footage roots into traditional narrative storytelling. The plot centers on Chuck, who moves to a new town with his wife and sister following a family tragedy. His fresh start is derailed when he discovers the community is plagued by a malevolent presence connected to Helen Foster, a woman who died by suicide in the 1940s. As the supernatural threat escalates, Chuck must locate Foster’s former residence at the titular address to end the haunting.

Where are all the adult animated movies? There’s even less when it comes to animated horror movies. There have been a handful of more well-known ones such as the occasional Resident Evil movie, the recent To Your Last Death and prequel to Train To Busan – Seoul Station – but there’s nowhere near enough, so I was very happy to see a new animated horror movie coming to Shudder soon.
The Spine of Night works as a kind of strange anthology movie. We have two lead characters that the story revolves around. The Guardian (voiced by Richard E. Grant) is a creepy, skeleton-like God and Tzod (voiced by Lucy Lawless) a fierce high priestess of a great jungle swamp. They’re both...

“TekWar” was William Shatner’s ’90s sci-fi passion project. Thirty-odd years later, he’s adapting his sci-fi world into an adult animated television series.
Deadline reported on Tuesday that Shatner, best known for portraying James T. Kirk in the original “Star Trek” series, is working with Pure Imagination Studios to develop and produce the adaptation. Per Deadline, the “TekWar” novels are set in the year 2043 and follow a former detective in futuristic Los Angeles who was framed for the crime of dealing an illegal mind-altering drug in the form of a bio-digital microchip. It poses a great threat to humanity and has the potential to become a virus that will lead to an unrecoverable future.
Shatner’s nine “TekWar” novels, which were ghost-written by Ron Goulart, were published from 1989 to 1997. The “TekWar” novels were adapted into a variety of mediums, including four television movies, a two-season live-action series, as well...

It wasn’t that long ago that I saw Jason Axinn’s star-studded brutal gore fest animated feature To Your Last Death which to be honest I was simply smitten with. It was bonkers gory fun with a cast to die for that truly had me entertained right the way to its sadistic end credits.
So it was with a certain amount of excitement and intrigue that I sat down to watch his latest effort, Night of the Animated Dead and see what the man had cooked up in that mind of his. You may have thought the title of this one would be a huge hint towards what the movie was about but for some reason it completely went right...

Happy October, weirdos! If you're looking for something different to watch in celebration of the spookiest month of the year, here's a strange and smart animated full-length horror film for you to check out. I first saw To Your Last Death last year at the 2019 Nola Horror Film Fest on a whim; it's not often that I get to see weirdo animated horror films, especially those that are feature length. Anyway, To Your Last Death has won more than 30 awards on the festival circuit, and if you watch the film, it's easy to see why. The writing is sharp and mult-layered; the same script could easily have been adapted to a video game...

"Hell is empty... And the devils are here." Quiver Distribution has unveiled a full-length official trailer for an animated horror-thriller film titled To Your Last Death. It's not that often we ever see any animated horror projects, and it's exciting to watch the animation medium serve up all kinds of different stories. This trippy high concept horror is about a woman named Miriam. In order to save her siblings, she takes on her father and the powerful entity known as "Gamemaster", who ensnares humans into diabolical plots while her species gambles on the outcome. Well that sounds crazy! Dani Lennon voices Miriam, and Morena Baccarin voices the Gamemaster, plus a cast including Ray Wise, Bill Moseley, Florence Hartigan, Damien C. Haas, and William Shatner. The clunky animation style borrows mostly from FX's "Archer", with less character animation and more vivid visuals. I'm not too sure this will good, but it is worth a watch.

With democracy under attack and the climate crisis unsolved, there’s an ever-growing sense that humanity may be nearing its extinction. Where did it all go wrong? Were we to revisit the past 10, 50, or 100 years from now, would we know where to look for answers? Would we know what to do if we found them?
The hard-nosed soldiers in Tom Paton’s Stairs certainly don’t. Following a difficult operation during which they forswore their humanity for the sake of obeying orders, their debriefing takes an introspective turn when their nine-strong platoon is pursued up an unending staircase by the spectre of a civilian they killed in cold blood.
Before her execution, the prisoner gives the group some ominous, prescient advice: don’t go down. Those that do are swiftly chewed up. Those that don’t, climb, up and up until their boots fill with blood, frantically seeking a way...

Things are about to get bloody. William Shatner narrates the trailer for the new animated film “To Your Last Death,” and his calm and alluring tone of voice will be of just a little comfort for the hyper-violence on display.
The trailer for the “Archer”-style animated film features some twisted, “Saw”-style death traps, brutal attacks with swords, axes, chainsaws and syringes, a woman falling to her death in a spike-filled pit, and even a guy walking around with his brain sliced open.
“Hell is empty, and the devils are here,” Shatner says in a whisper in the trailer.

Family functions often go awry, but few end up quite as bloody as that of the DeKalb clan in To Your Last Death, a crowdfunded time travel splatter story billed as the world’s first feature-length animated horror film.
When warmongering megalomaniac Cyrus finds out he’s terminally ill, he summons his estranged children to his corporate headquarters to discuss his legacy. His paternal instincts, however, are a little askew, and the DeKalb kids—“whore” Kelsey, a Beverly Hills-type prone to self-harm, Collin, an uptight banker who publicly denounced his father’s handling of the state budget, and “autoerotic asphyxiator” Ethan, a wiseass who was “far busier doing his eighth-grade math teacher than eighth-grade math”—quickly find themselves stuck in Saw-style deathtraps devilishly modeled on the various ways they have disappointed dad. The sole survivor is “looney” Miriam, our protagonist, who escapes only to be approached by the mysterious Gamemaster,...

Nothing can make a Star Trek or Star Wars fan twitch more than throwing up a Vulcan salute and saying, “May the force be with you.” And there isn’t anything much funnier to both fandoms than Mark Hamill and William Shatner going at it on Twitter. Whether it’s over a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame or a pile of dirt on Mars, the bickering between these two is just plain awesome.

"Angela, it's just a house..." Netflix has debuted the first trailer for an indie horror titled Malevolent, a new horror film by Icelandic filmmaker Olaf de Fleur Johannesson. The chilling thriller film is about a pair of fake paranormal investigators who suffer the ultimate reality check when confronted by the horrors that lie hidden within a haunted orphanage. But supernatural terrors are the least of their problems when they discover the very real evil lurking in the isolated house. Starring Florence Pugh and Ben Lloyd-Hughes, along with Celia Imrie, Scott Chambers, and Georgina Bevan. This starts out pretty mellow, but get intense fast and looks very freaky once they get into the house. The sound in this trailer is really unsettling as well. Quite an effectively creepy trailer, perfect to launch at the beginning of scary October. Take a look. Here's the first official trailer for Olaf de Fleur Johannesson's Malevolent,...

Probably the biggest horror franchise in the world right now is “The Conjuring.” After two main films, with three spin-offs, the stories of married ghost hunters Ed and Lorraine Warren have become incredibly popular among moviegoers. Based on a “true story,” many people either think the Warrens are the real deal or the world’s biggest con artists. However, that doesn’t stop people from buying tickets. In the new film “Malevolent,” Netflix takes a cue from “The Conjuring,” but asks the audience — what happens if the ghost hunters are fake, but the haunting is real?

Exclusive: It was one of the most poignant and heartbreaking stories to come out of the U.S. forces’ fight against Al-Qaeda. Air Force Combat Controller John Chapman, mortally wounded, was first thought to have died in the mountains of Afghanistan in the battle of Takur Ghar. This hero who took on two dozen Taliban soldiers and saved 23 Americans was then left behind when Seal Team 6 retreated. Evidence is overwhelming that Chapman survived being hit: After the retreat, military video footage shows a man courageously fighting out of a bunker all alone on the mountain and, among other findings, Chapman’s voice was unmistakenly heard on the radio. A true American hero.
The story of the fight and what occurred has been written in a book and is also the subject of a Newsweek cover story “Honor Guard.” Now management and production shingle Thruline Entertainment has optioned an upcoming book...

It seems that every few weeks there’s a new animated feature at the movie theater. This is quite different from my youth, when only Disney made full-length cartoons (that were distributed in Ohio) and they took three to four years to produce.
It seems that every television channel has at least some animated content, a lot of it aimed at grown-ups. This is quite different from my youth, when all cartoons were for kids, and were on networks on Saturday mornings and local channels, maybe for an hour after school.
We can have an interesting conversation about why animation grew up and expanded its audience. Was it the influence of anime? The Baby Boomers loving cartoons so much we refuse to give them up, just like with comic books? The (relative) inexpensive production compared to feature films, especially as computers improved?
Who cares why? More animation means more choices...

William Shatner is primed to go boldly where no scaredy-cat has gone before: the sub-genre of animated horror. That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, who brings word that the Star Trek veteran has inked a deal to lend his vocal chords to Malevolent.
Joining Firefly and Homeland alum Morena Baccarin for the part, Shatner will voice Overseer, the booming narrator that will help tie the dark story strands together. Described as “the world’s first full-on animated horror feature film, Malevolent is a twisted, blood-soaked horror/sci-fi thriller a la Saw meets Groundhog Day.”
Centering around a group of four siblings who are pulled back to their ancestral home after their father learns that his days are numbered, Malevolent is a family-centric horror yarn with a twist. Keen to enact revenge on his offspring, what the elderly father fails to realize is that so-called intergalactic gamblers interrupt the family...

Animated horror films are few and far between, but occasionally someone gets a great idea for one – see Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust - that makes us remember the genre can be more than just Alvin And the Chipmunks Meet whichever movie monster happens to need a paycheck at the time.
