Legend of Hammer Mummies (2013)
*** (out of 4)
Well-made and entertaining documentary taking a look at the mummy films that came from Hammer Studios. The documentary starts off talking about the Universal series and then how Hammer had a big break with HORROR OF Dracula and THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN. From here we get into the making of THE MUMMY and finally get to the follow-up mummy films like THE CURSE OF THE MUMMY'S TOMB, THE MUMMY'S SHROUD and BLOOD FROM THE MUMMY'S TOMB.
If you're a fan of the Hammer series then you'll be entertained by this documentary. While there's certainly nothing ground-breaking here it's at least something and gives us archival interviews with some of the folks involved in the series. The majority of the running time is given to THE MUMMY and this includes an interview with Christopher Lee. The other films are discussed including how the ratings changed over the years and how Peter Cushing was going to be involved in another but his wife's death had him pull out.
