The season ends really abruptly without any real payoff.
On its own this is a good episode but it feels like there would an episode after it but there's not. It feels like the writers didn't know where to stop to carry on for season 3 so they just cut very suddenly. It's still a good episode and I enjoyed it but it didn't feel like a season finale in the slightest.
If they added an extra 30 minutes to the episode to make it complete I think it would be rated higher.
It doesn't even really feel like a set up episode it just looks like they forgot a few episodes to release after and stopped it because they needed somewhere to start season 3.

The start of the season was written good but the final two episodes specially the seventh was rushed. It's not bad but decent and decent shouldn't be the level of the most successful series ever. I expected it to become a tough season to tell a fulfilled story and I really enjoyed it but the finale was short. It felt like they recorded more material but decided to cut it out and work it out for Season 3. Which is another point I'd like to talk cause at this point Season 2 & 3 don't really exist. It feels more like Squid Game 2 Pt. I & Pt. II.
The biggest issue is for me the subplot it's completely ignored and dragged. It appears for a really short time which is huge failure. They should've made the 9 episodes and let them find their target or at least get to find out the culprit in their own crew.
For the people that still think it's about the game show and who's gonna win it: if this was the case that would be a recycled story and no extended and meaningful addition to the series. Squid Game is about society and how the human who participate for these games deal with depression, desperation and who's willing to go over all limits to reach their goal cause they feel obligated to do so. On the other side the operator and its recruits and VIP's ( another critic point btw we haven't seen them again like in Season 1 ) who prefer to get entertained to hedge bets, laugh and have a good time while watching people fighting for their lives.
Our main protagonist wants to break this traditional event for once and forever but it seems way too hopeless.
They really need to deliver 9 episodes for the final arc to bring this story to an end. It still has the potential to become one of the most memorable series of all time.

This season was perfect it had everything i need in sequel plus it had everything from drama to action to some comedy moments to philosophy and it did well in all of this. Voting after every game gave it some much meaning and depth as in the 1 st season it was more of a survival now its a choice and people now choose to play only one thing left to notify them before the first game that it has deadly consequences and i would side with the games LOL.
The cliffhanger didnt really bother me that much as i wrote in the title if you just consider it as a part one of the finale you would hate it that much especially that the second part is coming later this year!

Came on here to see the ratings before I started s2, saw the finale was 6.9 (6.8 now) finished s2, and I completely disagree. Before even checking the reviews after I finished s2 it was pretty obvious to figure out what the low reviews were about.
Not a single person knowing that there's gonna be a season 3.
They literally announced s3 along with the release date for s2 5 months ago. Not to mention it'll be out within the next 12 months. Probably around fall if I had to guess
Good cliffhanger with very good season, s1 is better still imo but s2 was amazing, the characters were so goated this season
Shoutout to unnie for carrying.

I'm sorry but not like the rest of the season, the last episode was extremely bad and unfortunately you realize that the series creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk only had 6 months to write the second season. The revolution or the fight at the end consisted of little fed or people who never held a gun and on the other side soldiers or people who didn't have much effort (like some games where you have to fight against others) in the last days. Also, the revolutionaries are suddenly extremely good marksmen who benefit from the fact that you don't think about turning off the lights in the room with all the stairs, after all, they have to come to you.

"Squid Game 2" fails to recapture the magic of the first season. The original thrived on its simplicity, a stark, haunting intensity that drew you in and refused to let go. With a lower budget, it felt more epic - its rawness, its desperation, gave every game a weight that was impossible to ignore. Now, that tension is gone. The heart-pounding dread, the gripping uncertainty, the unexpected brilliance - it's all missing. Season 2 struggles to find the same emotional pull, leaving a series that once felt groundbreaking now feeling strangely ordinary. The spark that made it unforgettable has dimmed.

This finale was supposed to be a bridge to Season 3 and I think it executes that perfectly. There was so many development and twists this season and I think everyone assumed that this is the last episode.
This isn't the last episode.
This is a bridge to season 3, in which this season executes that perfectly. It may not be the best finale, but that's because, it isn't. This finale acts as more of a leeway to season 3.
This finale was very sad, but had amazing character moments. The action was fun and different. Gi Hun finally becomes the leader and leads the pack which is very satisfying.
I think this is a great finale because of the purpose it serves. It seems like people are confused or don't get it, so i will say it again.

Compared to season 1, obviously one felf disappointed but considered it as a standalone season, it was beyond good. Stakes were high regarding number of characters but don't know why tension was missing. Character development for some characters was amazing but for some it lacks the depth. "The Front man" acting was really good, even at some points i assumed maybe he gonna really join the hero side (the way he save some characters). Certain deaths were shocking and this time games weren't at that much entertaining but overall except ep 1 initial 25 min, everyone going to be enjot this season as well.

Not that it makes much (or any) difference, but I've rated this 10/10 to balance out the clearly unjustified 1/10 reviews. Although I do think its definately a 8 or 9.
I agree with other reviewers that mention those who have given this a really low score might not be aware that there is season 3 to come, thinking this episide was the finale? Complaints about the slow pace throughout this season might then make sense if you think its all going to have to be wrapped up in 7 episodes. I personally like the slower pace to allow more of the story to reveal itself and see deeper into what the director is trying to show. It would have been way to rushed, and just probably a repeat of season 1 if this was no season 3.
Finally, for those who havent seen it, I highly recommend the 'Making of Squid Game Season 2', 30 minute documentary that Netflix suggests after this has finished. This provides further insight into the choices made for season 2 and gives you an idea of what went into it. Some people mentioned about the overly long voting scenes (perhaps wanting to see more violence, games and death instead?), but watch the documentary and you see adding this to season 2 adds a darker tone.
As for the episode I thought it was one of the better ones of season 2 with lots of tension. I won't go into the episode as to avoid spoilers, but if you haven't seen it already, highly recommended it and ignore the low reviews. Can't wait for season 3 to be out!

For me the last episode was executed very good. I think that at this point people do not know what they really want out ot a season finale. There was a good bridge to season 3 and that's how it should mostly be done. This is one of a few shows that actually had an action through the whole season and wasn't just a typical build up where everything happens in the season finale. Maybe you should find some criteria for rating a TV show because, at this point, your voting is pointless and full of double standards. For example, I find this season finale similar to the season finale of The Boys which was perfect and it got good ratings and reviews. I love good cliffhangers, good bridges and season finales that will make me want more of it. The only flaw for this series is that we had to wait a lot for the second season. Everything else is done great.
