There are a few things we’ve come to know and love about America’s Next Top Model -- and one of them will always be the acting challenge.
Since the very first cycle, the contestants have been forced -- or challenged, rather -- to prove they’re worthy of being America’s next top model by showing how well they can cry on cue. In the 22 cycles since, there have been plenty of surprises. Certain frontrunners have crashed and burned when tasked with rehearsing lines opposite of Taye Diggs or reciting technical jargon on CSI, while others have proven their acting chops.

Of the three "super powered geniuses solve crimes" dramas I reviewed last week, CBS' "Limitless" was simultaneously the most competent and least exciting. I don't expect much from the other two, but they're at least aspiring to more, whereas this is a mediocre rehash of "Intelligence," which was already a humorless rip off of "Chuck." Now it's your turn. For those of you who tuned in tonight, what did you think? If you're a fan of the movie, how did you feel about this take on the wonder-drug and what someone like Brian might do with it? Was Bradley Cooper's cameo fun or needlessly expository? Did you prefer Jake McDorman's inner monologue here or on "Manhattan Love Story"? Could you tell that Jennifer Carpenter was extremely pregnant at the time they filmed this? And will you watch again? Have at it.

In the real world, you might try to make a fortune on the stock market, or work to end world hunger, or develop a working time machine. On television, though, you'd use your powers to fight crime. Every fall, a handful of new sitcoms emerge, eager to bump out returning classics with a new slate of wacky, irreverent characters in wackier and more irreverent situations. Most are by-the-books takes on classic tropes that, if nothing else, abide so closely to formula they end up entertaining because of it (Fox’s Grandfathered, for example), but each year there’s usually one outlier. This show can be referred to as “the gimmick” – it’s a sitcom in which everything is by-and-large normal and traditional until the show’s candy-coated calling card is introduced, meant to upend expectations and revitalize the format (but that at the end of the day ends up doing neither).

That's pretty remarkable if you think about it. Of last season's fall Tuesday comedies, "Mindy Project" has moved on to Hulu and "New Girl" is returning at midseason and the other four are dead. So it's no wonder that not only are networks doing new comedies on Tuesday,...

CBS is clearly saving the first images of Kara Zor-El in motion for the "Supergirl" trailer premiering during the network's upfront presentation on Wednesday (May 13) afternoon, but we finally have our first normal images from the buzz-y pilot. It turns out that glasses are as effective at disguising Kara as they are at obfuscating Clark Kent's identity. And it turns out that Kara's boss, Calista Flockhart's Cat Grant appears to be a very busy woman. CBS announced its full schedule on Wednesday morning and also dropped a handful of pictures from its new shows. You have Justin Hires and Jon Foo getting their respective Chris Tucker and Jackie Chans on in pictures from the midseason police dramedy "Rush Hour." You've got Dianne Wiest and James Brolin leading a superior ensemble in "Life in Pieces." There's Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden in a frenzied ER in "Code Black." And Jake McDorman...

What’s old is new again at ABC.
The Alphabet network unveiled its schedule for the 2015-16 TV season on Tuesday, and… it looks a lot like its schedule for the 2014-15 TV season. ABC is keeping four of its nights — Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and (of course) Saturday — completely in tact. The biggest overhaul comes on Sunday, where new dramas Oil (Fka Boom) and Of Kings and Prophets will fill the post-Once Upon a Time void left by Revenge and Resurrection.

Hulu may look to TV to find its next original series. The streaming video service is in talks to give The Mindy Project, starring Mindy Kaling (of The Office fame), a few more seasons on its platform.
Fox, which originally ran The Mindy Project, recently announced the network has no further plans to work on the comedy show after its third season. But according to Variety, Hulu is talking with the series’ production studio Universal Television to bring The Mindy Project to its video streaming platform for at least two new seasons, with the potential to develop more.
Hulu has a history of picking up linear television shows abandoned by traditional networks. The subscription video service aired the final episodes of two ABC shows, Manhattan Love Story and Selfie, after the network cancelled both. And Hulu’s not the only streaming video platform to give a home cancelled TV shows; Netflix boasts Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,...

The alphabet network has had mixed luck launching new sitcoms this season. Manhattan Love Story and Selfie have already been cancelled due to low ratings while Black-ish is on track to be renewed for a second season. How's Fresh Off the Boat been doing? Does it have a chance at returning next fall?
On Fresh Off the Boat, a Taiwanese family moves from Chinatown in Washington, DC to Orlando, Florida. They open a steak restaurant and experience serious culture shock while pursuing the American Dream. The family members are played by Randall Park, Constance Wu, Hudson Yang, Forrest Wheeler, and Ian Chen.

At this moment, in the world of TV comedy, nobody is doing diversity better than ABC. "Fresh Off The Boat" is one of the best new comedies of the spring, maintaining its creative momentum from a strong pilot and generating a consistently solid audience in a time period that has caused ABC nothing but trouble in recent years. "Black-ish" was one of the fall's better new comedies and after the usual out-of-the-blocks maturation, it has become reliably smart and perceptive, doing a reasonably good job of holding onto that fickle "Modern Family" audience. I didn't have any use for "Cristela," but people I respect have been aggressively and demonstrably on-board for it since Day 1. ABC also has comedies celebrating families from The Heartland ("The Middle"), conservatives ("Last Man Standing"), secular Jews ("The Goldbergs"), intimacy-free gay marriage ("Modern Family") and wealthy snobs in the Hamptons ("Revenge"). As much as I've hated...
