NPR’s Tiny Desk series is dedicating the month of June to “giving the ladies their flowers” during Black Music Month. On Tuesday, Tiny Desk hosted music legend Chaka Khan for a full 35-minute performance of her biggest hits.
The 10-time Grammy winner set the energy high with “Tell Me Something Good” before hitting high notes on “What Cha’ Gonna Do for Me” and “Stay” in between sips of tea. “It is tiny but it’s nice to be so close together with all of you, I can see not...

On January 26, Bandai Namco will release Tekken 8 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. While there will surely be multiple seasons of Dlc for the game, the first season will end right around the 30th anniversary of the series. 30 years of eight mainline titles, two tag team offshoots, a Nina Williams spinoff, some mediocre-at-best movies, a pretty decent Netflix animated series, and a handful of weird-ass comic tie-ins.
In those three decades, Bandai Namco gave us what might just be the best fighting game series to ever exist. If the fighting genre had a Mount Rushmore, surely the titles carved into it would be Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, and King of Fighters. I mean, I suppose you could argue Super Smash Bros., but the fighting game community treats it like Anakin Skywalker in the Jedi Council. It’s there, but is treated like an outsider.
But why is...

There was a time when arcades reigned supreme, and Bandai Namco’s 3D fighter Tekken series was a top contender for king of the fighting games. Despite being someone who grew up in the twilight of arcades’ popularity, my first experience with Tekken wasn’t with a cabinet, but with a kiosk at Toys “R” Us. As a kid who loved playing Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat at home, my attention was instantly piqued by the flashy graphics and explosive audio of Tekken 2 blasting from the chunky TV...

Not long ago, Sony announced that it would revamp its PlayStation Plus Service and offer PlayStation fans something closer to an Xbox Game Pass alternative. While the service may not be ready to properly challenge Microsoft’s juggernaut subscription program quite yet, the revamped PlayStation Plus library is still filled with worthwhile games that include quite a few titles that don’t carry the weight they used to.
Recently, Sony gave PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 owners a taste of things to come by confirming the initial lineup of games coming to the reworked PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium plans. The article promises a sizable roster of beloved first-party titles such as Ghost of Tsushima, Bloodborne, and Horizon Zero Dawn, as well as notable third-party games like Dead Cells and Red Dead Redemption 2. PlayStation Plus will also deliver remastered classics like Tekken 2 and Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and streamed PlayStation 3 games such as Demon’s Souls.

Writer/director Wych Kaosayananda has been somewhat of a busy bee recently with not one but Three films released in the span of six months. First up was The Driver, swiftly followed by One Night in Bangkok. However unlike those 2 features, which had the star-power name of Mark Dacascos to hang their marketing, Paradise Z – also known as Dead Earth and Two of Us – has crept out into the market with very little fanfare. Probably because it hasn’t kept the same moniker across the countries it has been released in so far. It also doesn’t help that the marketing – that I’ve seen – seemingly doesn’t connect this to The Driver. But it should, Kaosayananda has actually stated this film is set in the...

One of the most interesting parts of a fighting game storyline is when someone disappears between installments. Yes, these are narratives based entirely on violent heroes and villains kicking the crap out of each other for the fate of the world, so it’s easy to assume that neglected characters have simply met their ends. But sometimes things can be a little more complicated than that.
For instance, Adon was in the prequel Street Fighter Alpha, but wasn’t in Street Fighter II or Street Fighter III. Street Fighter Alpha’s ending suggested that in-between games, he died at M. Bison’s hand. Then, the endings for the Street Fighter Alpha sequels suggested that Akuma probably killed him at some point. Then Adon just showed up in Street Fighter IV, perfectly healthy, and those plot threads were dropped completely.
This also seems to be the case with Kunimitsu from Tekken.

On Friday, various Japanese fighting game developers joined together for a roundtable discussion about the state of the genre sort of designed to replace Evo Online, which got the ax earlier this year due to accusations lodged at the event’s CEO. The two-and-a-half-hour roundtable featured representatives from Capcom, Arc System Works, Arika, Snk, Koei Tecmo, and Bandai Namco Entertainment.
While most of the roundtable came and went without many big reveals, Namco had just enough to keep people interested. The publisher finally had an announcement for SoulCalibur VI.
The last piece of Season Pass 2 Dlc we got was Samurai Shodown’s Haohmaru back in March. Due to delayed caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, there’d been no word about the game’s future until now.
On Tuesday, August 4, the next Dlc character to join the SoulCalibur VI cast is Setsuka. She’s the third of four Dlc characters for this season,...

If you're an ardent chanbara cinema follower, this bit may concern you. Sp International Pictures's own Steven Paul (Ghost Rider (2007), Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance (2011), Tekken (2009), Tekken: Kazuya's Revenge (2014)) is now developing a live-action remake of Inoue Akira's 1993 film, Lone Wolf And Cub: Final Conflict which commences shooting in 2017. The film takes its cues from manga series author Koike Kazuo's 1970 Futabasha publication which ensued in manga follow-ups like "Lone Wolf 2100", as well as a six-part film franchise which led to two compiled U.S. versions, a television series and several stage plays. The epic ronin tale is set in the Tokugawa shogunate era and tells of Ogami Itto, the Shogun's elite enforcer and executioner who journeys the land...
