Kickbeat is a rhythm game and they are certainly an acquired taste. Guitar Hero did wonders for their popularity but still certainly aren't for everyone.
This martial arts themed title features tracks by the likes of Rob Zombie, Papa Roach, Marilyn Manson, Blue Stahli and Pendulum and actually really delivers.
The game is stupidly addictive, it looks great for a title of this genre and keeps things interesting with bonus/boss rounds and plenty of power ups to assist you in reaching the top score.
On the higher difficulty levels Kickbeat becomes brutal, the difficulty curve spikes dramatically and I salute the person who can pull those off.
On the downside some of the tracks are really quite bad, one particular dance outfit provides about 3 songs and they are not only awful but make the stages really difficult due to the distinct lack of beat.
I like games of his genre so I'm bias, but this is certainly one of the better ones.
The Good:
Some great tracks
Great ideas
Looks great
Lot of replay value
The Bad:
The difficulty spikes are immense
Some dire songs
Things I Learnt From This Game:
Dance music isn't music, irony
I discovered Blue Stahli thanks to Kickbeat
