In this pilot episode, we are introduced to the people working in a little library in a small town in Switzerland. The head librarian is retiring and practicing the speech he will give at the retirement party his wife is organizing. We see a little of their tense interaction and how they seem annoyed with each other. The plot then centers on a lively and upbeat librarian , Michèle, who is excited to become the library director now that her boss is retiring. She enthusiastically tells her two assistants about her plans to create a children's section, stay open on Saturdays, and hire more staff. Her assistants are negative towards her ideas and argue that hardly anyone reads books anymore and that it won't be possible to attract more library patrons. Then an auditor from the town council comes in, insisting that he see the library's expense records for the last seven years. He holds a meeting with the librarian who is about to retire, Michèlle, the book supplier, and other members of the board. He accuses Michèlle of embezzlement, which she denies.

The town council continues their audit of the library's budget, focusing on Michèle's alleged purchases of very expensive rare books. Michèle's adult daughter comes to the library and the library assistant is attracted to her, and is disappointed when her musician boyfriend shows up. The retired head librarian still spends all day at the library because he's having an affair with one of the employees.

The authorities charge Michèle with book theft and embezzlement and she claims to be innocent. The scandal is front page news, drawing a crowd to the library. Christiane's affair with the retired library director heats up and she demands he leave his wife and marry her. Bruno and Michèle's relationship intensifies. Steve has a crush on Michèle's daughter Cynthia and gets into a fistfight with Cynthia's musician boyfriend Franck.

In episode four, Regina confronts her husband about his affair with the assistant librarian Christiane. The library's adorable pet bunny accidentally creates a problem for Cynthia. The health inspector checks the library for black mold and has an unfortunate incident. Michèle's problems get drastically worse after back to back arguments with Bruno and Cynthia. Something that Michèle overhears Bruno say causes her to doubt the sincerity of his feelings for her.

Michèle finally learns the truth about who set her up to look like the culprit in the embezzlement scheme. Together with her lawyer, Steve, and Bruno, she tries to clear her name. Franck assaults his girlfriend Cynthia in front of Steve. The health inspector wants the library demolished. Regina and Edouard debate if they want to divorce each other or go to counseling to try to save their 30 year marriage. Jaques bullies, threatens, and pressures Edouard for money, so Edouard takes extreme measures to pay him.

In this final episode, Michèle and Bruno work together to clear Michèle's name and save the library from demolition. They also figure out where their relationship is headed. Cynthia and Steve get closer to each other. Christiane stands up for herself and Edouard faces the consequences of his lying and cheating.
