From watching the Subbed version of the film. If this isnt your First experience with Solo Leveling youll get to experience a well cut version of season one transitioned into season 2 amazingly. Everything being highly seamless and entertaining. You see all new stuff that will blow your mind if you seen season 1.
If its your First time watching youll see amazing story and graphics of someone who went from the bottom due to extraordinary circumstances to; what Ill call the top; for the time being.
Its an amazing journey to get to the end and its really encouraging to think there be much more of this because of how awesome it is.
The theatre was gasping a couple times, laughing the lot.
Id bet you have a good experience.

I saw the dubbed version of this movie to hear Aleks Le on the big screen. Going into this having already seen season 1 & with my expectations set from actually doing a tiny bit of research, I had a great time.
If you took a whole 2 minutes to google this film before seeing it, you'd know that this was mainly a recap followed by the first two episodes of season 2. This would have made very little sense without seeing season 1 of Solo Levelling.
I'm not sure if it was the cinema I was in or the film itself, but there were points the audio felt a bit off. Nevertheless though, glad I watched this to get hyped for season 2!

As a long-time fan of the Solo Leveling webtoon, I was thrilled to see it hit the big screen. The movie starts with a one-hour recap of Season 1, which, while a bit lengthy for my taste, served as a solid introduction for newcomers. I brought a friend who hadn't seen the first season, and to my surprise, he could follow the story without difficulty-though the transitions between scenes and episodes felt a bit abrupt, even to me.
After the recap, the real highlight begins: the first two episodes of Season 2 (presumably). These were breathtaking. The animation and design perfectly captured the essence of the webtoon, delivering the same thrilling, high-quality visuals fans have come to love. Sony's collaboration was evident in the polished production.
This theatrical event left me hyped for the upcoming season and eager for its release on Crunchyroll. For fans and newcomers alike, it's a fantastic appetizer for what's to come.

A-1 Pictures has delivered again with the Solo Leveling: Awakening film. The fight scenes are breathtaking, and the seamless transition from Season 1 into Season 2 is perfectly executed. The animation quality is on another level, and the character designs are stunning. Combined with exceptional sound design and an impressive Japanese voice cast, it's hard to imagine a better execution. I had honestly thought they wouldn't handle the recap of Season 1 as well as they did, but they exceeded all expectations. This film amplifies the hype for Season 2, and I'm so glad I got to experience it-it's truly a masterpiece.

I sneaked into this film hoping to be entertained, and for the most part I was. But anyone who is over thirty will certainly have a hard time investing in any of these characters. Apparently, this is mostly a recap of Season 1 of the webtoon. I was interested in the various levels of fighters. Sung Jinwoo is the protagonist, a novice who is destitute, the usual kind of hero. He can't even pay rent, so it's off to a team entering a dungeon that's only really safe for the "C" level hunters. They keep meeting monsters that they have to vanquish in a kill or be killed fight. I liked Sung in his normal life mode. All the girls at the school he visited fawned over him. It's a cute enough film for the right age group.
The world and the humans inhabiting it changed dramatically when portals opened into other dimensions. Hunters, humans with awakened abilities, fight the creatures lurking within and are ranked based on strength. Jin-Woo is the only active hunter with an E ranking, the lowest one, and his life changes after joining a raiding party. When most of the party dies in a dungeon, Jin-Woo sacrifices himself to save the others; instead of dying, he lives with video game player-like abilities. As he navigates his new lease on life, he attempts to figure out what is happening concerning the world and portals.
This is a solid series, and this "movie" was supposed to be the second season. Alas, just like some other anime series movies, this one is a majority recap of season one and a tease of season two. It is an excellent watch for anyone wanting to get into the series. This is a great refresher for those who have seen the first season, and the tease will excite you for season two. With a runtime of two hours and one minute, the recap has the potential to be boring for repeat viewers, but for first-timers, it will fly by. I highly recommend this anime, and this movie is a quick way to get started and catch up in one easy viewing.

An hour and 30 minutes of recap. A waste of money. I nearly walked out, if I didn't have to pay to watch. Wish I waited for it to come out on crunchyroll or on an illegal website. This is unbelievable and upsetting. I LOVED season one but did not pay to watch a recap of it to be squished in an hour and a half.
On the other hand the other last 30 minutes were good. Graphics don't fail to me amaze me. It's a gorgeous and eye catching anime.
Do not recommend paying for it. Wait for it to come out on a streaming service.
Can't wait for season 2 to come out whenever it does. I guess this was to hold us off until then.

Saw the subbed version of this today with no prior knowledge of Solo Leveling.
First up, this isn't Akira or Ghost in the Shell, it won't change your life. It's standard teen drama with the violence turned up to 11 and a whole lot of angst. If you can get past that, it's fiiiiiine, perfectly serviceable, very whatchable and does an adequate job of telling a story - this might be acceptable to younger watchers but at 38, in a cinema full of over 30s it landed like soggy toast.
That being said, it's pretty light on the exposition, with lots of stuff covered via flashbacks, which is almost a shame as some of the flashback moments are generally more interesting than whatever was going on at rhe time.
Animation is nice enough and does a fine job, thankfully it's light on the 3D unlike most modern anime and the fight scenes have a real old school feel to them, almost dragonball-y.
Overall, it's fine, there's better anime series telling similar stories, it walks the line of serious drama and silly isekai, but never commits to either - would have liked the backstory explained more, and in the UK it's marketed as a standalone movie that requires no prior knowledge of Solo Leveling, but it does seem like a good chunk of that woulda been helpful. Hopefully there'll be a 2nd film that covers more of this.

When a series of gates open connecting various timelines, it signals the arrival of some pretty impressive monsters upon whom human weaponry is useless. The salvation of mankind is going to rest with a generation of hunters. These are rated S-E, with E being the most junior in terms of experience and skill. That's how we meet the young "Sung Jinwoo". He's a relative novice who is also broke. He can't even pay the rent, so accepts a task joining a team who are entering a dungeon that's only been deemed safe for "C" level hunters. Pretty swiftly he realises that he's being manipulated by his so-called partners and faces an enormous great beastie that looks something like a red-eyed woodlouse. Only by pushing himself to the limit, can he hope to defeat it. This is when he discovers that by levelling up he gains more power, more resilience, weaponry, agility (and becomes considerably better looking!) - and that's the start of a series of well-drawn and lively animations illustrating his increasingly difficult battles to ascend the ranks of hunters earning friends and enmity as he goes. It's quickly paced and more characterful than many of the action animé series, this one, with loads of action right from the start. Though it does inter-twine the fantasy adventures with a bit of the human-side activity, most of this is staged within the confines of a game that presents a range of adventures that are exciting to watch. Jeopardy? Well, no, not really. It's all clearly building to a denouement that isn't going to be included in this amalgamated three-episode feature, but as stepping stones along the way it's also a bit more stand alone than some of the cinematic partial-serialisations that we see. On the downside, it does rely on quite a lot of onscreen textual information that isn't always the easiest to read when fleetingly put onto a big screen, but the escapades with the likes of a deadly red knights and some menacing ice bears help this to flow quite entertainingly.

I felt very disappointed to come see this movie and find out that it was basically a recap from season 1 of Solo Leveling. Why did they do this when months ago there was a huge backlash for the recap episode Crunchyroll released while the anime was airing?
Additionally, since they wanted to create a recap of a whole season, everything feels rushed, there's obviously no character development and Jiwoo is portrayed as a person without feelings from the very start of the film. If someone that hasn't watched the anime were to go watch this movie they certainly wouldn't understand anything as they pieced together a bunch of scenes quickly.
What can I say? I didn't expect anything and yet I felt disappointed. They should have made a compelling movie instead of a recap of the season... We sadly walked away from the cinema after the first 50 minutes.

First, I had a feeling like I've already seen it before. Maybe some mistake, I thought. But, later, it became clear I was watching season 1. I started to asking, did I buy a ticket to some Season 1 or some old movie? Because what I expected is something new or parallel story line like it happened with Blue Lock movie for example.
But here it is just a recap of what we've already seen! Ok, maybe it is intro for new viewers to onboard them? Well, not really. It is too fast and most events skipped! So the fresh viewer wouldn't fully understand what is going on.
Well, the last 30 mins were cool, because it was new and original. This is what I expected to see for 2h instead of last 30 mins.
Overall, 30 mins of original content out of 2h, I give it a generous 3.
