It was filmed on location in downtown Los Angeles at The American Hotel and Al's Bar, L.A.'s CBGB. Pinfeathers received the Silver Plaque at the Chicago International Film Festival, screened in Seattle and was favorably reviewed in The Stranger, Seattle Times, and the New York Times, which described it as having a "Salammbô -like decadence."—RareWorlds
