A wonderful cast that understands the wonderful script and the scenario that accompanies the wonderful song selection. The movie doesn't promise much. It's not a blockbuster anyway. The film expertly tells a small story. Which is why I like little stories of little people. Lucas Jade Zumann will write his name in the 21st century.

It's too quirky for its own good...trying to weave finding his sister in with a new love interest and advice from a bird - this movie is all over the place. What could be touching is so schmaltzy that it loses its bite altogether.

This film is a bit too quirky for my taste. I don't connect with the story or the characters.
This movie's a mess, the comedy doesn't work and they try to do too much with stylish effects.

You can tell from the get go that this film is made from a book and that who made the film is from New York. It's the perfect blend of introspection and neurosis. Nicely acted, touching at the same time the weird and wonderful perspective on life that young people have, full of feeling and confusion, and the reality of one's existence. Yes, it ends predictably with the young'un reaching maturity, but it also celebrates youth, with all of its idiosyncrasies. The references to classic literature were kept at a minimum, while the occasional foray into different movie styles was just a one time gimmick and less something to distract from the story.
Bottom line: good film, fresh take, a bit slow and not by any means perfect, but better than what I've seen lately.

Thank you folks ...the subject matter is long overdue. The film's cinematography is beautifully shot and excellently directed. This is a must see! Also, The caliber of the actors is superb. Thank you for making this film!
I was very uncomfortable watching this, not because the themes are.disagreeable but the depiction of mental struggle, teenage thought and the dialogue itself is just terrible to mediocre.
Many times you roll your eyes due to the lack of self awareness of the characters, the writers who writes the sentences the characters utter and ultimately the director who makes tonal shifts, cuts and transitions that take away from the possibly interesting moments and adds unnecessary distractions. I was already checked out when the chose teenage party score was techno swing from the 2010s as if it was still relevant in 2020. Credit where credits due though, although it falls flat and is way more shallow than all the early timothy chalamet, emma watson youthful introspective dramas, it still tries to be introspective and that deserves a thumbs up.

Each character is flawed in their own unique way, giving way to this quirky story of love, coming of age, and mental illness.
Funny and endearing. Loved JD!

Dr Bird's Advice for Sad Poets is a film that provides the escapism and cinematic delight we are all craving and need at a particularly poignant time. It is a playful and beautiful filmic feast of a gloriously shot movie...... but it is a lot more than that. Could there be a more relevant time to shine a light and encourage discourse on the mental well-being, the loneliness, the disconnection any young person can experience purely by virtue of being a teenager but how about in a pandemic? I'm pretty sure the makers of this little gem could not have foreseen that they would release this film amidst a global pandemic of displaced and disconnected young people. There just could not be a more relevant time to watch this movie and to discuss mental health, particularly of our young people. So take a flight of fantasy and escape your Groundhog Day existence in a way that only wonderful, touching, exquisite cinema allows us to. Dr Bird's Advice for Sad Poets has something to tell us at the exact time we need to hear it and it does it so whilst captivating us with this charming and unique little movie. Delightful.

Our understanding of mental health issues and how we address them says something about our society. We need to take mental health conditions more seriously. This well-made movie is a perfect starting place for the conversations we must have if we are going to make a difference in the lives of people who struggle with mental health related challenges.

Lucas Jade Zumann and Taylor Russel are phenomenal in this film. It's a beautiful portrayal of mental health and first love. I really loved it. Highly recommend it to everyone, not just teens.

This movie is probably the end of Lucas Jade Zumman's acting career. I've tried to watch this movie twice, both times couldn't make myself finish it, such a gibberish movie, extremely boring too.
This film was like a breath of fresh air. the premise was simple and the characters were beautiful. no one was made out to be the villain. easily one of the most memorable movies I've watched to date. now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go place an order for Walt Whitman's works :-)
This is a beautiful representation of a current and relevant concern in the current climate. This film has been needed and fills a large gap in the industry currently. Beautifully presented with characters I really felt I could relate to. I loved this and will be adding it to my most watched so I can enjoy it again and again.

This movie is kind of boring. We kind of seen this before. A troubled teenager, with a lot of toughs. If you think that a depressed teenager in love is interesting or if you have insomnia watch this now.
