- The film is set in a Russian province, where two travelers by car arrive in by mistake. Muscovites Taras and Alexander in search of unique and beautiful places romp around the home country. While skirting amazing coasts of Lake Baikal on their road to Irkutsk they passed the fork and accidentally find themselves in Tunka Valley. In their travel to unfamiliar places young men admire, compare them with the scenery of Switzerland, and see a source (spring) and some incomprehensible to them colorful flags tethered to a bush nearby. They stop to get water and Taras understands it is a holy place associated with the worship of local spirits. The guys see a dried source and empty bottles scattered around. Alexander returns to the car, and Taras begins to collect garbage and put it into the package.
And here, as in the story of robbers, there come local "heroes" on horseback and armed with spears and banners ready. In assessing and trying to figure out how much to take from visitors for entry to their native lands, heroes quietly whisper in the local dialect (Buryat). Taras and Alexander think that the car will be picked up, but the local guys asked a liter. Liter? It turned out that the calculation here is to alcohol. Having given them the necessary guys were quick to leave. But there it was, the car stalled, as they say, without dropping to the local spirits, you cannot safely continue on your way. The Muscovites had nothing but hang out with locals...
The next morning, Alexander wakes up in the home of Victor, a local intellectual and former teacher. Taras, the car, and all their personal things are nowhere. Swaying with a hangover, he goes out and finds himself in a frosty reality of the village. Soon comes their car with drunk Taras. Alexander grabs the friend and quickly leaves.
The film is based on the story of Victor. He used to be an exemplary family man.. But the craving for alcohol addiction broke his fate. Now a happy life for him is in the past. But once Victor collects his will in a fist and decides that it's time to start living again unless it comes too late. To start a hard way of personal revival the man begins with recovering of a generic source which has been abandoned by his fault ...
Everyday life of Victor consists of a dilapidated hut, cold and abandoned, rickety door jamb, a broken fence and fellow companions to drink. Day after day they live in anticipation and looking for money for another bottle of vodka. Sacred source of their family, the village gradually becomes shallow and disappears in a whirlwind of hangover, ancestry roots are getting forgotten and respect for elders is getting lost. There are times when Victor tries to get away from his alcohol addiction. One day, his neighbor calls him to help around the house and gives him some money so that he comes to the source and prays for his loved ones. Victor sees the warmth and comfort in the neighbors home, grandchildren, who are sitting, buried in computers and playing virtual football. He recalls pictures of his childhood and a loud "Goal!" sounds in his ears. Now real and vivid moments of a game are replaced with the cold surface of a computer screen... Victor leaves neighbors house inspired, with a strong desire to quit drunkenness, but at a grocery shop he meets his drinking companions waiting for him and minute rush turns into another abyss. One day, Victor and his friends get an offer to participate in a criminal case associated with jade; where there is put at stake their quiet life on the porch of the store in anticipation of the next bottle. They are going to face shooting, chasing through snowy jungle, explosions. The storyline of the film seamlessly is blended with a colorful legend of Bator (Folk hero) Sayner who fought with black riders one by one, saved the poor and the oppressed. Victor is a direct descendant of Bator Buhelig (Sayner), a brave and valiant son of the Tunka land. During the jade chase, Victor gets lost in a dense forest and meets with wolves. He hears a voice from the heavens, and frightened he runs in the dark and accidentally jumps on the road, where he is being picked up and saved by the partners. Another drunken morning or afternoon, Victor is confused and lost in the fire of drunken fever gripping him tightly. He sees monsters with faces of his friends and familiar people; he hears voices of other world and times. On a shelf there is a photo of his parents with jammed features on their faces. At one point of unconsciousness there is a white light in the window in which he sees the subtle outline of his father and mother. "Your throat gets dry? Your source dries up "- he hears the father's voice, and they disappear. Further in his imagination there come images of people singing their old lingering chants. They sing at a long table, symbolizing the connection of times and generations. Among them, Victor sees a harsh old man, looking at him with mute reproach. On the crest of reality and dreams Victor is in the open field at the top of the mountains, in the midst of fragrant fields. Thunder, the heavens shake and he hears the voice of the stern old man. "Who are you, what tribe, who is your ancestor? Whose son are you? Answer me, I cannot hear you! ". Victor echoed softly, but with each passing moment his voice grows stronger. And that voice sounds with fear, hope and faith for a better outcome. The old man says sadly about current generation, hard times and loss of binding thread between generations. Do not lose heart, to believe in the future, respect the past; do not succumb to despondency and anger. Good thoughts and good deeds will save people from degradation. In the eternal circle of sansara (life circle) it is important to first build a world inside of us, and then change the world around ... Victor goes to the dried-up source and starts to get out, collect garbage. Here comes his drinking buddy and invites to celebrate this "purity." The moment of truth if our hero succumbs to the temptation? Victor follows him, opens the bottle, pours a glass full, the audience stand still .. Does he drink? Content of the glass is dissolved in crisp white coats of the new day. The other man attacks Victor with a knife. "How dare you pour?" "Really because of vodka you kill me? Kill!" - said Victor. At that time, the abandoned spring is coming back to life. Pure crystal spring water gurgling and coming is a symbol of joy, hope and love ... Victor returns home and finds smoke coming from the chimney of his house. His daughter came back from the city. The house is heated and cleaned. On the shelf - the restored photo of his parents. The bright images of past generations: parents, grandparents, countrymen, people of different nationalities. Poignant song connects the past, present and future.
