Taiwanese actor Shih Chung Tien (aka Shut Chung Tin) had strong degrees in Judo and Karate, so he became a coach to Police Academy in the 60's. By 1970 he moved in Hong Kong, where he started a career as an actor: you can see him in RIVALS OF KUNG-FU and CHALLENGE OF THE MASTERS aka KUNG-FU CHALLENGE, both produced by legendary Shaw Studios. But he was very active in independent industry too, often playing evil characters as in THE DEATH DUEL and THE NOTORIUS BANDIT/THE TONGFATHER. This DEATH TRAP is the only movie I saw where he played the main good guy. The movie is a typical revenge-formula on a shoestring budget. People like Kwan Hung (one of the two Thai-boxers in THE ONE ARMED BOXER), Ma Chin Kou, and Chen Hsin I (NEEDLES OF DEATH) add pepper to the action. Tien Yeh plays the tough military officer and the beautiful model Li Mei Guen has her fighting moments. The gigantic Chen Fu Hung aka Johnny Cheng (EXIT THE DRAGON, ENTER THE TIGER) is a bulky soldier. All in all an average movie but a good showcase for the main actor. Released in Taiwan 11/12/74.
