UK Indie Taking Korean Format ‘Battle In The Box’ To U.S.
Interstellar, the UK indie that made the British version of Something Special’s format Battle in the Box in the UK, is to take the Korean format into the U.S. The format, initially from Nmedia for Mbn in Korea, sees two celebrity teams enter an empty box for 24 hours divided by a moveable wall and armed with just a toothbrush. They earn space and luxuries by conquering mental and physical challenges. Interstellar made the UK version of the show for BBC Studios-owned network U&Dave, with comedian Jimmy Carr the host. The company will now take the format to the U.S. after striking a deal with Something Special, which has the international distribution rights. “We cannot wait to take everything we’ve learned about this groundbreaking reality and gameshow format and apply it to a...

It’s such a bittersweet experience to see some great stars returning to roles that made so many fall in love with them. The bitterness comes from the fact that the new installment could potentially be so inferior, or it could be extremely superior; either way, a new installment could ruin whatever came before. The sweetness comes from the nostalgia of seeing a favorite character(s) again, especially after several years. After what seemed to have been the end of the comedic action saga in “Bad Boys: For Life”, and with the knowledge of the risk of potentially ruining one of the biggest franchises of their careers, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence once again for an unbeatable police duo in 'Bad Boys'. Heretic has acquired world sales right to Iranian director Aliyar Rasti’s “The Great Yawn of History,” a debut feature that premieres this month in the competitive Encounters strand of the Berlin Film Festival.
The film tells the story of a man who dreams of a box of gold waiting for him at the end of a cave. Curbed by his religious belief that it’s not permissible to go after it himself, he employs the assistance of a non-believer. Together they embark on a long journey across the Iranian landscape in pursuit of a miracle. But their treasure hunt soon turns tempting also for those they meet along the way.
Heretic’s head of sales and acquisitions, Ioanna Stais, praised the first-time director’s film for how it deftly transforms into an intricate game of hide-and-seek between faith and human frailty.
“From road trip to allegory, Aliyar’s poetic...

Today’s young adult books bring romance, adventure and social commentary. Take a look at our best bets for what to read this August.
Edie in Between by Laura Sibson
Type: Novel
Publisher: Viking Books for Young Readers
Release date: Aug. 24
Den of Geek says: The retro-style cover is charming, but the heartfelt story about family and loss really sells this witchy contemporary fantasy.
Publisher’s summary: It’s been one year since Edie’s mother died. But her ghost has never left.
According to her Gg, it’s tradition that the dead of the Mitchell family linger with the living. It’s just as much a part of a Mitchell’s life as brewing healing remedies or talking to plants. But Edie, whose pain over losing her mother is still fresh, has no interest in her family’s legacy as local “witches.”
When her mother’s teenage journal tumbles into her life,...
