The viewership ratings of the week of 1 December 2013 reached 9.801 TVTs. The game of dice leading to Draupadi's 'cheer haran' took Mahabharat at its peak viewership (10 TVMs) and helped the broadcasting channel Star Plus clock one of the highest GTVMs.
Aham Sharma was given a supporting role in front of Shaheer Sheikh who was a popular actor by then despite the roles they played weren't obvious.
The serial intended to give limelight to those characters of the epic who have been historically sidelined and did not get enough weightage in books and literature.

Mohit Raina reprised his role of Lord Shiva from "Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev" in Season 1. In later scenes featuring Lord Shiva a different actor was used.
