The opera scenes in this episode were filmed at the Kings Theatre in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn. Built in 1929 as a "movie palace" (the Loew's Kings Theatre--the name comes from the fact that Brooklyn is in Kings County, New York), it closed as a cinema in the 1970s and fell into severe disrepair until a renovation in the 2010s restored it to its former glory. Now a frequent concert and other performance venue, it is also a popular filming location for New York-based TV and movie shoots.
A bus bench ad for Joann Lenox Realty (Jane Krakowski from Season One's "A Classic New York Character") is glimpsed in the episode.
The episode's title is a reference to the first episode of the Columbo series (which Elsbeth is heavily influenced by), 'Prescription: Murder'
Casting Corey Mach as an obnoxious theatergoer who repeatedly and flagrantly interrupts multiple performances is ironic, given that Mach is well-known for his many stage appearances. He has appeared on Broadway in such musicals as Godspell, Hands on a Hardbody, Kinky Boots, and Merrily We Roll Along, and in the touring companies of Wicked, Flashdance, and & Juliet.
