"Waack Girls" is an absolute gem on Prime! I went into it expecting a typical dance drama, but it completely blew me away. The story follows a group of young women in Kolkata who come together to form a dance group specializing in waacking-a super cool and expressive dance style from the 70s. It's so refreshing to see a show spotlighting something unique and not mainstream.
The cast is fantastic. Mekhola Bose and Rytasha Rathore, especially, feel so real in their roles. You get pulled into their struggles, friendships, and victories. The chemistry among the group is incredible, and you can't help but root for them. Each character has their own story, and it's inspiring to see how dance brings them together.
The dance sequences are pure magic! I didn't know much about waacking before, but now I'm obsessed. The choreography is powerful and emotional-it's not just about the moves but what the dance means to the characters. The setting in Kolkata adds so much flavor, too. It's vibrant, authentic, and makes the story even more compelling.
If you like shows like "Glee" or "Step Up," you'll love this. But "Waack Girls" stands out because it's not just about dancing; it's about breaking barriers, following your dreams, and finding yourself. It's heartfelt, empowering, and leaves you feeling inspired. Sooni Taraporevala is a brilliant writer! Highly recommend!
