Exclusive: Blue Ant’s Canadian version of hit Japanese format Old Enough! has been recommissioned.

The series, which has been airing in Japan for three decades, depicts the efforts of toddlers going on an errand on their own—buying groceries or delivering packages, for example —accompanied by the camera crew. The new season will see a fresh cast of three-to-five year olds spotlighted.

The Canadian version launched earlier this year and Season 2 will be out in 2025. Netflix has been distributing Nippon’s Japanese version for two years.

Drag Race Canada producer Blue Ant unveiled the news at MIPCOM, where it is selling Season 1.

Elizbeth Debicki topped a royal run for The Crown with her win in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category and became the first Australian actress to do so in the process.

Debicki, who played Diana, Princess of Wales, in the final two seasons of Netflix’s drama series, won at the second time of calling, having been beaten last year by Jennifer Coolidge for her turn as Tanya in The White Lotus.

This year, she beat her co-star Lesley Manville, who played Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, The Morning Show quadruplet of Nicole Beharie, Greta Lee, Karen Pittman and Holland Taylor as well as The Gilded Age’s Christine Baranski.

Few shows remain relevant following the end of their run, but Suits staged a big comeback last year when the first eight seasons landed on Netflix.

The former USA Network legal drama broke countless streaming records and reignited interest in the franchise.

Recognizing an opening to restart the franchise, NBC put a spinoff — Suits: L.A. — into development.

Despite being billed as a shoo-in for a pickup for the 2024-2025 TV season, it was absent from the recent wave of NBC series orders and the network’s fall 2024 schedule.

Thankfully, the lack of pickup isn’t bad news because NBC has yet to watch the Suits L.A. pilot.

“We’re excited about this. It’s a pilot and we’ll be screening it in June … Assuming that it gets picked up it would be for midseason next year,” NBCUniversal boss Jeff Bader shared this week, according to The Wrap.

Exclusive: We’ll be seeing more of Tyler Green in the upcoming season of Criminal Minds: Evolution. Ryan-James Hatanaka, who heavily recurred as the character last season has been promoted to series regular for Season 2 of the Paramount+ series, which is currently in production.

Hatanaka’s Tyler Green is a former army intelligence officer who infiltrated the serial killer network created by Elias Voit (Zach Gilford). This season, the Bau recruits Tyler as a consultant, utilizing his psychological operations training on their latest season-long investigation.

Green joins cast members Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Adam Rodriguez, Paget Brewster and Gilford.

Criminal Minds: Evolution is produced by ABC Signature and CBS Studios. Erica Messer serves as showrunner and executive producer, with Breen Frazier, Chris Barbour, Glenn Kershaw and Mark Gordon also executive producing.

R.I.P. Quibi, again.

It seems even the Roku Channel is not free from The Great Streaming Purge of the 2020s. According to a report in Variety, over 35 notable Roku Original shows are to be removed from the streaming service sometime in the near future. This comes after multiple other services have removed shows and movies, many of them high-profile releases, from their feeds in order to cut costs. HBO Max — now merely Max — infamously removed a lot of their original films back in August of 2022, while multiple TV shows and movies were taken off of Hulu and Disney+ in May of 2023 for similar reasons. One might assume that a free, ad-supported service like the Roku Channel would be free from the caprices of the streaming market, but that is not so. The line of Roku Originals will be brought to an end.

Roku Originals, some may recall, were not Roku originals.

“Most Dangerous Game” and the Zoe-Lister-Jones-led “Slip” are among a handful of existing licensed and produced shows being removed by Roku. The company also plans to lay off staff. Roku is the latest streamer to purge content from its platform to cut costs, following similar moves by Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max, Disney and AMC Networks.

We’ve seen multiple streaming companies remove titles from their service over the last year in a bid to save money, and Deadline has reported that Roku has joined them. The outlet reports that Roku has begun removing a handful of titles from their service, including Most Dangerous Game starring Christoph Waltz.

Most Dangerous Game began life as a Quibi Original (remember that mess?) before it was salvaged by Roku, who renewed the series for a second season. After learning that he will soon die from a terminal illness and desperate to provide for his pregnant wife, Dodge Maynard (Liam Hemsworth) accepts an invitation from a mysterious man (Christoph Waltz) to participate in a deadly game of survival. Each hour Dodge survives will earn him more money, for a total of $24.5 million if he survives the full 24 hours.

Updated, Sept. 8: Roku has removed at least 37 original shows from the Roku Channel, as part of its announced effort to cut costs.

Those include episodes of the “Reno 911!” revival of the Comedy Central series; oddball sex-doll comedy “Dummy” starring Anna Kendrick; plane-crash drama “Survive” starring Sophie Turner and Corey Hawkins; and dystopian thriller “Most Dangerous Game,” starring Christopher Waltz; “Singled Out,” a reboot of the ’90s MTV dating show hosted by Keke Palmer; “The Andy Cohen Diaries,” an animated series chronicling the life of the Bravo TV producer and personality; a remake of “The Fugitive” starring Kiefer Sutherland; “Elba vs. Block,” a stunt-racing show in which Idris Elba and professional rally driver Ken Block competed head-to-head; and survival drama “Wireless” starring Tye Sheridan.

Exclusive: Roku has begun removing titles including scripted shows Most Dangerous Game starring Christoph Waltz and Slip from Zoe Lister-Jones.

It is the latest streamer to remove titles from its service following similar moves by Paramount+, Disney+, Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max and AMC Networks.

Roku revealed yesterday that it was set to remove some content as part of a cost-cutting drive that also saw around 300 employees laid off. It said that it would take a hit of between $55M-$65M for removing “select existing licensed and produced content from company-operated services on its TV streaming platform”.

The company will, however, continue to order original series and sources note that this process is part of its regular review of programming.

Sky will premiere its upcoming Sky Original documentary “Hawking: Can You Hear Me?”, described as the human story behind one of the 20th century’s best known scientific minds, Stephen Hawking, on Sept. 20. The broadcaster has also shared a new first-look image – a family photograph made available to the public for the first time – to accompany the announcement. In the photo, Professor Hawking can be seen with his then wife Jane and children Robert and Lucy on their California estate in 1974.

The documentary will feature interviews and archival footage provided by family and colleagues, many of whom are speaking publicly for the first time since Hawking’s death in 2018. Victoria Justice (Afterlife of the Party) and Adam Demos (Sex/Life) have signed on to star in an untitled romantic comedy, which Stuart McDonald (Summer Heights High, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) is directing for Netflix.

The film written by Elizabeth Hackett and Hilary Galanoy centers on a hard-driving LA wine-company exec who travels to an Australian sheep station to land a major client. There, she ends up working as a ranch hand and sparking with a rugged local.

Robyn Snyder, Deborah Evans, Deborah Glover, and Tracey Vieira are producing the pic, which will be shot on location in Queensland, Australia.

Tracey Robertson is exec producing with Nathan Mayfield, Elizabeth Hackett, Hilary Galanoy and Fernando Szew.

Production and post-production will be supported by the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy. The film will create around 120 jobs for Queenslanders.

Victoria Justice and Adam Demos are teaming up for a new Netflix romcom, set to film on location in Queensland, Australia.

In the film, Justice stars as a hard-driving L.A. wine-company exec who, in order to land a major client, travels to an Australian sheep station where she ends up working as a ranch hand and sparking with a rugged local.

The as-yet-untitled movie will be directed by Stuart McDonald, from a script by Elizabeth Hackett and Hilary Galanoy, who previously worked with Demos on 2019’s “Falling Inn Love,” which also starred Christina Milian.

The project is produced by Robyn Snyder, Deborah Evans, Deborah Glover and Tracey Vieira. Tracey Robertson, Nathan Mayfield, Hackett, Galanoy and Fernando Szew serve as executive producers.

Both Justice and Demos have a history with the streamer, as Justice is next set to star in the Netflix movie “Afterlife of the Party” and Demos starred in the steamy drama “Sex/Life.

Roku will add 23 series on Friday to its free streaming outlet the Roku Channel, including former Quibi shows like Emmy-nominated comedy The Mapleworth Murders.

The announcement of the new arrivals came with new Nielsen data showing the channel was No. 6 in terms of household reach among all streaming services.

The Roku Channel will be premiering a fresh batch of its original shows on Aug. 13, the company announced Monday. The new slate of 23 shows — all stemming from Roku’s acquisition of Quibi’s library earlier this year — will include a new season of “Thanks a Million,” the pay-it-forward series from executive producer Jennifer Lopez.

The new season of “Thanks a Million” will include guest stars Matthew McConaughey, Chris Rock, Vanessa Hudgens and Lana Condor, among others, Roku said. Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist lives on. The buzzy series, which was canceled by NBC after two seasons, would get a new chapter with a holiday movie for streamer Roku, I have learned. The series’ main cast, led by Jane Levy, is slated to return, I hear.

The deal, which is still being finalized, is for a movie, but in success, it could lead to another season of the show, sources said. The pending pact with Roku caps an extensive effort by Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist lead studio Lionsgate Television to find a new home for the show after NBC canceled the series in June and a potential move to NBCUniversal streamer Peacock did not materialize.

The studio explored any possible avenues to continue the story of Zoey Clarke — series, miniseries or a movie. While it was doing so, the options on the cast expired at the end of June and were not extended.

OWN announced Richard Roundtree and Terri J. Vaughn have joined the second season of romantic anthology drama, “Cherish The Day.”

Roundtree and Vaughn will be joining the cast in recurring roles. Roundtree is set to occur as Mandeville “Mv” St. James, a proud, loving, wry-humored former judge and widowed father of Sunday, played by Joy Bryant. Vaughn will recur as Anastasia, Ellis’ (Henry Simmons) soon-to-be ex-wife and the mother of their children.

“Cherish The Day” is an anthology series that chronicles the relationship of one couple, with each episode spanning a single day.

Josh Groban is taking up hosting duties of the new competition series Eye Candy— based on Nippon TV’s popular game show Sokkuri Sweets set for premiere in August on Roku. Executive produced by Chrissy Teigen, the title was part of now-defunct Quibi’s portfolio acquired by Roku earlier this year.

“I first saw this show in Japan when it was called Sokkuri Sweets and was obsessed with how fun and silly it was,” the Emmy and Grammy Award winner said in a statement. “To be the ringmaster of such insanity is a dream. Bon Appetit.”

The series is centered around teams of celebrities and civilians who will attempt to identify outrageous edible creations designed to look like everyday ordinary objects. The timing of the new series couldn’t be any better as viral videos of cakes disguised as everyday items have been circulating around the internet as of late.

Exclusive: OWN has set the lead cast for The Kings of Napa, its new drama series about the power struggle between wealthy siblings in Napa Valley. Ebonee Noel (FBI), Rance Nix (Zero Issue), Karen LeBlanc (Ransom) and Yaani King Mondschein (For All Mankind) have been tapped to star in the series from Claws executive producer/showrunner Janine Sherman Barrois, Warner Bros. The Broadway performances of a U.S. congressman’s wife has become an unlikely talking point in Wisconsin politics.

In her campaign to unseat Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher by highlighting his background of “wealth and privilege,” Democratic State Rep. Amanda Stuck repeatedly mentions Gallagher’s marriage to a “Broadway star” in a video to the local PBS station.

Stuck doesn’t mention Anne Gallagher by name, perhaps because “Broadway star” is, well, a stretch.

“I don’t come from wealth and privilege like Mike Gallagher does,” Stuck says in the video. “I didn’t marry a Broadway star like Mike Gallagher did. I married a sheet metal journeyman.”

Stuck continues, “For most of us, Broadway is a street in Green Bay. It isn’t a place in Manhattan, like Mike Gallagher knows.”

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist appears to have found Max’s workplace replacement: Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows) will recur during Season 2 of NBC’s musical dramedy as George, a new programmer at Sprq Point.

In the Season 1 finale, Max announced that he was moving on from Sprq Point to pursue other opportunities, so could George — who makes his debut in the Season 2 premiere, airing in 2021 — be filling Max’s spot on Zoey’s team? It sure would line up with the fact that George is “constantly hungering for Zoey’s (and his fellow coders’) approval,” per the official character description.

Everyone’s favorite familiar-slash-vampire hunter on FX’s “What We Do in the Shadows” will soon show off his musical side on the small-screen: Harvey Guillén will recur on the second season of NBC’s “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” Variety has learned exclusively.

In the multi-episode arc, Guillén will play George, a new programmer who is constantly looking for approval from the titular Zoey (Jane Levy) and his colleagues. His first episode will be the second season premiere, which does not have a specific date just yet but is set to be in 2021.

Chrissy Teigen is quickly becoming the face of fledgling streaming service Quibi.

After the platform renewed Chrissy’s Court -- a series in which Teigen comedically settles various small claims skirmishes -- for a second season, Quibi announced today another that it's pacting with the model and social media mogul on a second series called Eye Candy.

Eye Candy is based on a Japanese game show called Sokkuri Sweets, which was created by Nippon TV in Japan but will be produced by Main Event Media stateside, according to Deadline, in partnership with Teigen’s own Suit & Thai Productions. The series sees celebs and civilians walking onto a set and attempting to identify which objects are real and which are edible concoctions. Based on the popular Japanese game show “Sokkuri Sweets” from Nippon TV, “Eye Candy” is “centered around teams of celebrities and civilians who will attempt to identify outrageous edible creations designed to look like everyday ordinary objects,” per Quibi’s description. “With the objective to distinguish edible (and delicious!) creations from real objects, the suspense hilariously builds to when contestants must make their choice – and then take a bite!”

Chrissy Teigen is going from the courtroom in Chrissy’s Court to sweet confections. Quibi has set a new series titled Eye Candy based on the hit Japanese game show Sokkuri Sweets produced by Nippon TV. Eye Candy will be produced by Main Event Media, an All3Media America company, and executive produced by Teigen via her Suit & Thai Productions.

The series is centered around teams of celebrities and civilians who will attempt to identify outrageous edible creations designed to look like everyday ordinary objects. The timing of the new series couldn’t be any better as viral videos of cakes disguised everyday items have been circulating around the internet as of late.

Quibi has ordered another series from Teigen, who already has a second season of “Chrissy’s Court” in the works at the platform, called “Eye Candy.”

Based on the popular Japanese game show format “Sokkuri Sweets,” the series features teams of celebrities and civilians attempting to identify edible creations designed to look like everyday, ordinary objects. The objective is to distinguish the edible creations from the not-so-edible objects; the real from the cake. Once the contestants make their choice, they must take take a bite so see if they’re right.

Eric Weissberg, who arranged, played banjo on and won a Grammy for “Dueling Banjos,” from the 1972 movie Deliverance, died Sunday of Alzheimer’s disease complications. He was 80.

Starz CEO and president Jeffrey Hirsch told reporters Tuesday at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour in Pasadena that “story extensions or spins or sequels” are being considered by the network and its partner, Sony.

“We think there’s a lot of opportunity in the ‘Outlander’ universe to have the story extensions or spins or sequels. We continue to look at that with our partners at Sony,” Hirsch said.

“Hopefully we’ll find something that we feel is great and continue to tell that story.”

Season 5 of “Outlander” premieres Feb. 16. The series has been renewed through Season 6.

“Outlander” is based on material from Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling series of the same name. Ronald D. Moore adapted the books for television.

Starz released the trailers for Season 5 of “Outlander” and Season 2 of docuseries “Wrong Man,” as well as a teaser for its upcoming scripted drama series “Hightown.”

“Outlander,” which returns Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt, is based on material from Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling series of the same name.

HBO Max is developing a series based on Scholastic’s “Point Horror” books by R.L Stine, Variety has learned exclusively.

The project hails from Picturestart and Lionsgate Television. The show, which is currently titled “Point Fear,” is described as an anthology series that exposes the horrors of being a teenager. Each episode of the show will be inspired by one of the books in the series, told for today’s audiences but with a nostalgic nod to the 1990s. Many authors have published books under the “Point Horror” banner, but the series will specifically focus on those written by Stine.

Jon M. Chu is in negotiations to direct and executive produce the series. Stine will also executive produce along with Yvonne M. Bernard. Ryan Lindenberg will oversee the project for Picturestart.

Previous television adaptations of Stine’s work includes the “Goosebumps” series, as well as shows like “The Nightmare Room” and “Eye Candy.

Starz has finally found its new CEO, promoting Jeffrey Hirsch up from COO, to replace Chris Albrecht.

Albrecht stepped down in March after more than eight years leading the pay-cable network. Hirsch and the current leadership team, including president of programming Carmi Zlotnik, had been essentially in charge of Starz, working closely with Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer.

But Thursday’s announcement gives the pay cable network an official CEO for the first time seven months.

As CEO, Hirsch will shape the overall business and programming strategy for Starz and oversee the continued expansion of Starz’s streaming service, Starz Play. The executive, who has been with the network for four years, signed a new long-term deal.

It may not have a title yet, but The Walking Dead‘s upcoming second spinoff continues to grow by the day. In addition to the show’s previously announced cast, Younger‘s Nico Tortorella will also star in the new series, which is set to premiere sometime in 2020, our sister site Deadline reports.

Tortorella’s character, Felix, is described as “an honorable man of his word who isn’t afraid to fight for others’ safety and acceptance.”

“Outlander” author Diana Gabaldon took to Twitter on Monday to respond to Starz COO Jeffrey Hirsch and his recent comments attempting to locate the show’s appeal to women viewers.
