I like raunchy comedies. I love movies that are so bad they're good. And I really enjoy low-budget movies made by clueless artists because their sincere intentions often make up for their lack of money and talent.
That said, I've watched "Birdemic" more times than I can count. If you have, too, you might agree Whitney Moore is the best thing about "Birdemic". I think she's really pretty, can be a good actress when she wants to be, and has definite screen presence. So one day I was searching around on my streaming services for other features Whitney appeared in. That's how I stumbled across "Beginner's Guide to Sex".
But woof, this was such a let-down. I think it's because the tone of this movie is so schizophrenic. It shifts from brain-dead giddiness to truly uncomfortable fear to wannabe avant garde to really nauseating and then back to silly again. It's confusing and ridiculous. Plus it drags. At one point I checked the time, thinking it was close to ending, but was surprised it still had another hour to go!
Whitney's charisma really shines through at times. But for the first 30 minutes her character Laci Cox -- a 20-something virginal sex-ed teacher -- is just way too maniacal. She's giddy, high-pitched, girlishly eager, and loud. She seemed to have popped 12 bennies and inhaled a Hindenburg's worth of nitrous oxide to get into character. To be fair, I honestly felt the rest of cast were all good actors deep-down. I could tell they were all trying hard and meant well so I'll give everyone in the cast a pass. I put the blame for this mess of a comedy squarely on the director. Perhaps he was too lax with the script, or took simple stage-notes to wild extremes, or that his "vision" of the film was just to get it done as fast as possible. Whatever the reason, it's a shame because the potential was definitely there.
This is not really a laugh-out-loud movie. More of a very occasional grin and cringe kind of humor at best. I laughed the most at Simon Rex as the sleazy teacher. Tom Arnold had his funny moments, too. Trav as Abu the basketball star was a really good actor, it's just too bad his character was so intense, mean-spirited and downright scary, which had no place in a sex comedy.
Overall, I don't regret watching "Beginner's Guide to Sex". Honestly this is a movie you will remember, but for all the wrong reasons. I just wish they'd have put more comedy into their comedy.

Laugh-free, bizarrely-toned misfire unsure if it's a wild, raunchy sex comedy or a serious high school drama; unpleasant homophobic and racist stereotyping abound, not to mention an overload of profanity. Cast is mostly required to play things at the 2-dimensional level. This is the sort of thing that makes "Porky's"--or even "Wildcats"--look like "Citizen Kane" in comparison. To think of all the talented scripts out there in the world that lay languishing and never get made while something like this continues to circulate on pay cable is truly a discouraging thought; in case you haven't figured it out yet, this movie is not just bad--it's depressingly bad.

I loved this comedy. I laughed really hard about eight times. It may have been a bit dumb at times but there were many really funny jokes. People who gave it a low rating must be offended by rather graphic explicit sexual language. But if you are not prudish and easily offended, I think you will agree this was some really humorous writing. The acting was also totally decent and the casting of characters was very good in my mind. The thing about comedies is they are very subjective and if you are into sophisticated ironic envelope pushing humor; you may like this as much as I did. I watch a lot of comedies and can hardly remember one that cracked me up as much as this did and I am fairly jaded. The only thing I can think of to compare the style of humor to might be the TV series "Maron"

I turned this movie on with a short leash, and from the first 5 minutes I was hooked. Just when you think the scenes couldn't be any more appalling and hilarious, it manages to top itself.
The main character is just like The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt...super naive and corny in a world of vulgar teenage sex. The movie is non-stop laughs and dark humor - those who get offended should stay far away from this movie. It truly is tasteless, but in a really clever and funny way.
This is the path that "The To Do List" should have been. It has an indie feel. I wouldn't think the writing on a movie like this could be considered "fresh" or "original", but I have to say it is. They took the line of what's "too far" and moved it waaaaay back. Check this out if you are fans of movies like American Pie or Porky's.

I highly recommend this movie. The female sex ed teacher has an innocent bubbly personally that makes her extremely hot. She makes the movie along with her acting. Simon rex along with tom arnold play supporting characters.
This movie had me laughing non stop all the way through its vulgarness. We need more vulgar movies like it. I was really surprised with some of the stuff that the writes came up with. It is all fresh and never been done material. Its not like a typical Hollywood film its better. Sooo Good, its a must watch film.
Ps it also contains a few bare boob shots. Not many shots but the one scene was funny when it happens 30 some odd minutes into the film.

This is a fun, kooky comedy with countless killer one-liners. Whitney Moore sells every scene, with a wonderfully manic and endearing performance. The running 'jump' joke was nuts and had me laughing to the end.

Sex Ed: Laci Cox has to teach it - the only catch is Laci is a virgin.
Yep.... That's all you need to know.
The jokes are actually played straight which is part of the movies' charm.
Some less intelligent movie watchers will claim, it's childish, I disagree The jokes, you actually have to think about it....
"Principal Haymen keeps chewing my asss out." Yes, actually a line. You have to spend five seconds to think about the joke and that's a good thing.
9.5....out of 10. Freaking funny. If you are a person who misses offensive material, this movie is a gem.

Kind of a comedy, with some life lessons... The lead does a great job of playing an innocent, inexperienced young woman. I would recommend the movie.
