Developed by the World Travel modding team, the Liberty City Preservation Project made waves in the GTA community when it was released in late December. The mod brought the entirety of Liberty City from Grand Theft Auto 4 into GTA 5, recreating its iconic setting complete with traffic, and dynamic weather.

Thanks to its impressive upgrades, including improved lighting, better textures, and new gameplay scenarios, it quickly gained a lot of attention. However, that attention turned out to be a double-edged sword. Just weeks after its release, the project is shutting down, as confirmed by the modding team on Discord.

Tragedy in New Orleans: “Music Is What’s Going to Bring the City Back,” Says Preservation Hall Chief
“The dust hasn’t settled yet,” says Ben Jaffe, the owner and creative director of Preservation Hall, in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter. The venerable trad-jazz venue sits around the corner from Bourbon Street, where in the wee hours of Jan. 1, a man inspired by the Islamic State drove a pickup truck into crowds ringing in the New Year, killing 14 and injuring dozens more.
His voice is shaken, his thoughts clouded by shock and grief. Jaffe grew up in the Quarter. Since inheriting the stewardship of Preservation Hall from his parents, who founded it in the 1960s to honor and showcase the aging musicians who helped give birth to jazz, Jaffe has transformed the timeworn hole in the wall into an institution of international scope, touring the globe and forging collaborations with contemporary acts like the Foo Fighters. At the core of it remains the music that came to define the city,...

If the movie adaptation of Mistborn ever comes to fruition, it will ideally be green-lit for sequels and the later films will face an even bigger challenge than bringing its magic system to the big screen. Mistborn's magic system is one of the most fascinating elements of Brandon Sanderson's books, but it will be among the most difficult parts of the series to depict in live-action. Allomancy allows Sanderson's characters to draw on metals to give them power, and its complexity alone will be hard to convey to movie audiences.
That's not to mention the need for a hefty special-effects budget, as the magic can't look cheap or gimmicky if the Mistborn movie hopes to succeed. But Sanderson's books utilize Allomancy to deliver epic action sequences on multiple occasions, and it's hard to imagine a new IP being able to match the source material. Needless to say, Allomancy is...

Of the many streaming series currently available online, MoMA's Film Vault Summer Camp is certainly one of the most invaluable, providing insights into both the restoration and curation process behind the historic films of its storied collection. Taking place every Thursday in August, the series aims to provide access to the museum's Film Library, which was started in 1935, and the research that sustains it. Each week of the Film Vault Summer Camp (presented by collection specialist Ashley Swinnerton) is programmed according to a new theme. Week two, entitled Preservation, offered an in-depth glimpse into the history of film restoration and MoMA's own restoration procedures in the case of three historic selections: a 1934 screen test of Katherine Hepburn as Joan of Arc, Andy Warhol's Kiss (1963-1964), and Lime Kiln Club Field Day (1914/2014), the oldest surviving feature film starring an all-Black cast. Never completed in its time, Lime Kiln Club Field...

A camping trip for newlyweds Mike and Wit takes an unexpected turn when they are joined by Mike’s brother, Sean, a former marine. When their tent is stolen overnight and they are left without food or water, the brothers turn on each other. A random act of violence becomes a game of cat and mouse. A weekend in the woods becomes survival of the fittest. A young couple must survive their failing marriage. An Iraq veteran must survive his violent past. And Wit must outsmart the predators hunting their prey.
Right off the bat, the first thing that strikes you about Preservation is the soundtrack. From the opening tune, the soundtrack is very reminiscent of early the work of John Carpenter – very much synth driven with that slightly off-key, off-kilter...

Read the simple synopsis on “Preservation”, and it would be easy to jump to the conclusion that teenagers fall by the blade of a masked killer or maybe even a crazed family of mountain dwelling inbreeds. Nope, way off. It does involve masked killers though. Instead of the wilderness excursions that are really excuses to indulge in the debauchery of alcohol, drugs, and unbridled and unprotected sex, this is more the camping trip that you would take in your late twenties after you have settled into marriage or couplehood. No sick house on the lake that doubles as party central. These are actual adults, intending to sleep in tents and actually kill animals. Mostly due to nostalgia, and what makes this even...

In 2008, actor and filmmaker Christopher Denham wrote and directed what’s still one of the more underrated films in the contemporary phenomenon of Pov horror. That film, Home Movie, was an eerie, intimate and ghastly account of two children terrorizing their parents. Since, Denham has been seen in the likes of Sound of My Voice,…

Editors note: Our review of Preservation originally ran during Fantasia 2014, but we’re re-posting it as the film opens on VOD and in limited theatrical release. Mike (Aaron Staton) and his wife Wit (Wrenn Schmidt) had planned a quiet camping trip, just the two of them, but his brother Sean (Pablo Schreiber) has had a rough time since returning from Afghanistan so they invite him along. The brothers turn it into a hunting trip and a minor family reunion as they reminisce over events from their childhood, but all is not right and relaxed with the trio. Sean is living off the grid while Mike is handcuffed to it — he’s on his cell phone more than he’s on his wife — and their differences couldn’t be clearer. Wit meanwhile fears she’s drifting away from her husband due to his inattentiveness, and hey look Sean sure does seem to be more understanding doesn’t he...

Christopher Denham's Preservation is a violent yet agreeably goofy throwback to the survival-in-the-woods genre, with shades of Southern Comfort, Deliverance, and even The Blair Witch Project (though it's not found-footage, thank goodness). Heading into a closed nature preserve for a weekend of shooting at four-legged animals are recent war veteran Sean (Pablo Schreiber), his brother Mike (Mad Men's Aaron Staton, continuing to have awful luck on camping trips), and Mike's wife, Wit (Wrenn Schmidt), a vegan anesthesiologist who doesn't care for killing, nor how Pablo brings out Mike's latent nozzlehood. They wake to find their stuff is gone, X's marked on their foreheads, and that they're being hunted by an indeterminate number of bad ...

Six years ago, an actor named Christopher Denham made a tight little “found footage” film called Home Movie. I picked it up on a whim at the Rue Morgue Festival of Fear/Toronto Fan Expo since it wasn’t available in America at the time. I really dug it and while Denham hasn’t been quiet on his acting career – working in Argo, The Bay, a couple of episodes of The Following and Sound of My Voice. I was hoping to see his directorial follow-up a lot sooner. We got a trailer for his follow-up to Home Movie, Preservation. Yes, it looks like a little bit of a twist on a familiar plot stemmed from the short story The Most Dangerous Game but who cares. I’m always up for a survival tale. Check out the trailer & poster below.

And Tribeca Film Festival 2014 is a wrap! While we put together our interview footage and write up some full reviews, let's dive back into our mini reviews so you'll know what movies to watch for as they nab distribution.
Preservation - directed by Christopher Denham (USA)
A disgruntled vet, his work-obsessed brother and his somewhat timid wife trek into an off limits nature preserve to live off the land, hunt with their dog... and fight for their lives!! And that's pretty much the whole plot.
The film takes a great deal of time at the front end setting up every little thing that unfolds in the back end but fails to flesh out likable characters you'll not want to see killed or present villains that elicit any emotion from the viewer whatsoever. Offering nothing new to a sub-genre that has plenty of titles to choose from, Preservation should be left out to rot.

The Tribeca Film Festival is in full swing, which means an array of quality dramas will be on display for audiences. But sometimes, you just want to feel you pulse quicken and have a good old fashioned thrill, and that's what Christopher Denham ("Home Movie") is hoping to provide with his sophomore directorial effort, "Preservation." Starring Pablo Schreiber ("Orange is the New Black"), Aaron Staton ("Mad Men"), and Wrenn Schmidt ("Boardwalk Empire"), the story follows brothers Sean and Mike Neary, along with Mike’s wife Wit, who head out on a hunting trip in the woods. But when all of their gear is stolen, they immediately turn on each other deep within this nature preserve, and it's a tale of the hunter and hunted that takes on some new twists. And in this exclusive clip, we see the wounded Mike and Wit take cover in a ranger station, and make an ambitious plan.

Whatever I know (or claim to know) about directing I learned through acting. Through osmosis. Between takes, I would stick around set and see how Scorsese talks to Bob Richardson. I would see how he talks to actors. How he collaborates. I was basically taking notes, hoping something would rub off somehow. What...

Starring in the film are Aaron Staton ("Mad Men"'s Ken Cosgrove), Pablo Schreiber (pictured; "The Wire," "Weeds," "Orange Is the New Black"), and Wrenn Schmidt ("Boardwalk Empire"). Staton and Schreiber are playing brothers on a hunting trip in the Midwestern woods.
