While I have indeed watched the 2023 movie "Ape vs. Mecha Ape" from The Asylum, I have to admit that I didn't harbor much of any grand expectations to this 2024 sequel, as the first movie was a lukewarm serving at best. Still, I opted to watch the movie, as I hadn't already seen it, and also because The Asylum does occasionally spew out something worthwhile.
The storyline in "Ape X Mecha Ape: New World Order" was pretty simplistic. It wasn't really profound script writing, but then again, would you expect such from a movie with a title such as this? Sure, the movie was watchable, especially if you enjoy corny sci-fi movies with huge creatures and mecha robots. So I guess there actually is an audience out there for a movie such as this.
Writer and director Marc Gottlieb returns to write and director "Ape X Mecha Ape: New World Order", just as he was also the driving force behind the first movie.
I actually wasn't familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list. That is actually something I do enjoy when I sit down to watch a movie. And the acting performances in this movie were fair, taking into consideration the contents of the script and the type of movie that this is.
While I am a huge fan of Lovecraftian things, I just couldn't really get into the concept of introducing the alien creature that writer and director Marc Gottlieb opted to throw into the formula here, to spice up the contents and concept of the previous movie.
"Ape X Mecha Ape: New World Order" was not among the brightest of moments from The Asylum, but it was a watchable enough movie.
This is hardly a movie that I will return to watch a second time. Nor is it a movie that I would suggest you to rush out and get to watch. However, if you enjoyed the first movie, then you will also enjoy this sequel. And if you didn't enjoy the first movie, you will not enjoy this sequel either. Yeah, both movies are pretty much cut from the same cloth.
My rating of "Ape X Mecha Ape: New World Order" lands on a four out of ten stars.
