La Palma

A Norwegian family of four goes on an annual vacation to La Palma in the Canary Islands. Unfortunately, the vacation isn't going so well this year. The relationship is suffering because the woman whose first husband heartlessly left her doesn't believe that that her new partner cares enough about her kids, all evidence to the contrary. Her young son is autistic and wanders away lost, which causes an angry row. Her teenage daughter gets upset at the fighting, and books herself onto a flight off the island, but fortunately meets an attractive young woman, and the exciting prospect of young love convinces her to stay. There's also a vulcanologist working on her PhD who has no friends or parents (they died in an earlier tsunami) who cares for her brother, who I think has a drug problem, though I'm not sure of that, because by that point my attention had started to wander.

In between the melodrama this is also a disaster movie with a volcano and a potential tsunami. Some of the effects are pretty good.
